Is Konrad a Lvl 1 wizard?? In the AB it says ALL Vampires are at least lvl 1 wizards. And there is no actually TEXT that says Konrad is not a wizard. Not looking for a loophole just want to clear things up for friends and I. Thanks!

It says Isabella is a 1st level wizard. When it says all "vampire characters" are 1st level wizards, that does not include Vampire Counts or special characters. Just the hero called "Vampire".

Interesting, I never even noticed that. So Konrad isn't a wizard. That goes a ways towards explaining his points cost.

The only thing I don't like about Kon is that he has NO ward save and ONLY heavy Armor. If he faces anything that's atleast Str5 he's mince meat!!!

This is very true, which is the reason I don't think I'd take him very often. That, and he can frenzy and potentially charge with his 6" movement out of an infantry block.

However, for his points, you get 4 attacks (5 with frenzy), WS7, with rerolls to hit, that generate extra attacks. That's excellent offense. With his I, he can take out whole front ranks of units by himself if it's against low T/AS models.

That's True. He is Offense incarnate...I just play against dwaarves and DE alot and I can just see all the gun lines and war machines aimed at his unit...lol

Yep, he's a throwaway combat killer, at less than 150 points... he might suck, but it doesn't really matter a whole lot. I used him for the first time yesterday, killed a total of 3 Dragon Princes and did enough to kill a Treeman, though after he took a charge from the Treekin I thought he was finished. Failed his stupidity test once...

Except I fluffed all the rolls and did not land the one wound I needed!

As for the Treeman fella, it was your BK what did him, Konrad no where near that one, 4 jezzail hits first turn did not help much either...

Yeah, I mistyped Treeman for Treekin there. Also forgot to mention he sliced apart an annoying Mage that the Skaven "allies" were taking far too long to destroy :)

yeah I agree, he is very good and his pros far outweigh his cons, just make sure you put him in a unit you dont care about, as if and when he does fail his stupid test, you dont want a nice expensive unit of GG not doing anything..

Yup. I also double-checked the rules for him if he does go stupid- you can still VHD him or his unit, but they can't declare a charge (So I'm glad I didn't try and pull that off on the rare occasion when he actually went stupid and failed his test)! He's really good, but that's to be expected I suppose when they take what should be a Lord-level character and try and make him a hero... just so that you can use the whole von Carstein special character family in one game...

on konrads magic he is an lv1 wizard because he has the vampire rule (ive asked a store member about this)

the varghulf though doesnt

Hmmmmmm ok...

Can someone explain this one to me though..

You read the rule for Vampire, and it states that all Vampires are Lvl 1 Wizards.. Vampire Lords are Lvl 2...

Both Konrad and the Varghulf each have the Vampire special rule.. so how are they not Lvl 1 wizards?

I accept I might be wrong, but i just want to hear the arguement (and the page references supporting the arguement) as to why they are not?

Page 35, Vampire characters are wizards. Not ever the Vaghulf.

The reference to Vampire characters being level 1 Wizards refers to the Hero choice called specifically a "Vampire". Whilst Konrad is a Vampire, he has no magic level (Unlike all the other Vampire Count special characters), and indeed just above his unit entry it notes he "lacks magic". I don't know what a "store member" is, but I wouldn't trust one for rules interpretations ;)

In case you're not sure, just do some quick maths: Konrad has a magic weapon worth about 40 points, and Bloodline powers worth 95. His total cost is just over those numbers added. If he had a magic level as well, he would be the most criminally undercosted model in the history of Warhammer.

All the special characters still state whether they are Wizards and what level, Konrad it dosn't say at all so I reckon he isn't.

The Vampire rule refers to mundane characters, special characters are always outside the norm.

It says he has no magical abilites what so ever so i dont think he's even capable of casting invocation of nehek :P

he's pretty badass for 145 points in cc tho
