These are the 3 main lords represented in the book, and I have two questions. One semi-tactical, and one just for fluff :D

1) Which would you choose to lead your army if you HAD to choose one? and is there much point even considering Konrad really? he is either Stupid or in a frenzy for the entire battle so couldn't be the lord surely, and though he has some formidable attacks, he isn't as invulnerable as either Mannfred, or Vlad.

2) In a one on one battle between opposing vampire armies, who do you think would win? if the three were real and their armies were all crumbled around them, left facing each other on the battlefield. Either all 3 fighting eachother, or Vlad Vs Mann/Kon, Man Vs Kon/Vlad etc etc.

Basically depends of your other army choices, but i would said mounted Mannfred with gem of lahmia and black periapt is really nice choice.
On the other hand Vlad staying power+Isabella bonus would make him my first choice.

Konrad is pretty good choice as a hero and can be quite reliable because he can benefit from Lord/General leadership.

If i would consider leadind special characters i would take Vlad, Konrad and Isabella together.
However, if taking Mannfred i would also take Isabella because with 5 wound and 1 autoheal, crimson gem of lahmia and black periapt he is ultimate vampire spellcaster.

Hmmm, it all depends what you want.
Konrad is great because you can use him to back up a custom lord of your own, giving great hitting power. Mannfred is an amazing spell caster, and whatever items you give him would make him better. Vlad is perhaps the better rounded of the 3, as he is an awesome fighter and can cast magic, plus is very difficult to kill.
Of course, my favourite tactic would be to use everyone! :D
Vlad + Konrad + Acolyte Mannfred + Isabella = Awesome anf fluffy!
Here you have the leader, the combat, the magic and the support, and can even fit it into a 2000 point army.

In regards to the second question, I'd say that Mannfred would be the likely winner. In a ranged contest his magical superiority would easily carry the day and it also allows him to constantly regenerate his injuries in close combat. Konrad would pack a serious punch but is himself not very hard to incapacitate. Vlad has both decent magical power and combat skills but neither of those would be enough to overcome Manny's magic, in my opinion.

This is all just based on their in-game profiles of course, I'm not deep enough into the fluff to give you anything from a background perspective. :)

From a background perceptive I'm pretty confident Vlad would smack Mannfred into the ground, he is his get after all and I and many others think that he was the master vampire Vashanesh. You've got to remember that many SC are toned down rules wise, when their fluff clearly shows they would be much stronger. So Vlad for the winner fluffwise.

If their armies were to clash I would definitely say that Vlad's army would be the strongest. In adition to being a descent spell caster he is a charismatic leader, so his army would consist of not only undead, but also the living, thus making his force the strongest.

In single combat I'd also have to go for Vlad because *repeats what DoN said*...

Vlad got things done, and he would do it with style.

As much as i wish that Konrad would win, i would have to say Vlad would win story line wise. Konrad and Mannfred are both Vlad's gets and as such should be weaker then Vlad. Plus in the story line Vlad was pretty much impossible to kill due to his ring.

Its pretty clear that Konrad's lack of magical ability would be a severe handicap against both Vlad and Mannfred. While Mannfred obviously feared Vlad, relying on trickery to get Vlad out of the picture rather then straight out confrontation. This implies that Mannfred didn't have the strength to kill Vlad himself. Although following this line of reasoning Manfred didn't have the power to kill Konrad either hint hint;P (Konrad for the win:P)

Well, Konrad wasn't a raving lunatic straight from the get-go; for the first while (before he started talking to skulls and ravens) he was clever, intelligent and one hell of a swordsman; I'd reckon he might even be able to beat Vlad in pure skill.

It's only after Mannfred and Skellan started messing with his mind that he started going insane.

Hmm, in the vamp war book konrad is okay...for a bit. But according to the new army book he was a raving frothing maniac from the word go...I'll go for the story though, sounds better. This said I still think Vlad would win out in the end, but it would be an epic battle between Vlad and Mannfred

in a fight 1 on 1 on 1 vlad would win konrad was mad so his blood lust will cause him to throw himself forward and also he has no magic so manfred would just fire of a spell and woomph

manfred is a generation lower than vlad so he has less power the more diluted the blood the weaker the vamp also the vc ring will keep vlad alive very nicely

in an armed forces match its hard to call id say konrad because of the blood knights in the fluff it says they are the best knights in the old world and i agree with this and they certainly are the coolest

in terms of coolest ill give my answer like this

1.vlad-a monster with gentlemanly manners how delightful
2.konrad-me thump with stick
3.manfred-the models looks like a bald constipated ostrich

For Question 1 Vlad, for 2 reasons

1-- He is an excellent all rounder ( he is a skilled warrior and necromancer)

2-- He is the true weilder of the Von Carstein Ring ( bring him back to life and give him a 4+ ward save)

For Question 2, each one has their own strengths and weaknesses but i reckon Vlad would win most of the time, because

1-- he was their sire, so would know the best way to beat them
2-- being an all rounder Vlad could beat them using their weaknesses ( eg Vlad could attack Mannfred with his sword and could use magic against Konrad)
3-- HE HAS THE RING, and while in the rules it says that it brings him to life once, the fluff says that it brings him to life every time he dies)

But like i said it depends on the situation

1) Vlad - he was the epitome of the controlled frenzy. Everything he did was done with thought and cold calculation. As a general I consider him superior to Konrad (obviously) and Mannfred. His downfall was lesser then either of the other two vampires in my eyes. Mannfreds cunning was too cunning at times and led to him getting into twists and becoming very paranoid.

2) In terms of the game, I would say Vlads army would again win, but only because his abilities make Mannfreds and Konrads look pale in comparison. He has a ward save and the VC ring at once. Thats just pure awesome.

Vlad would most likely slaughter the other two, unless Mannfred was flying around on his Hellsteed, blasting them to bits with three magical missiles each turn.
Vlad is also the best General, as he won't really die, even if you put him in the thickest fighting, he'll come back.

in the terms of LEADING the army i would choose mannfred.
in the terms of KILLING definately Konrad!

I thought you could only une one magic missile a turn...

1) Anyway as for the genral Konrad!, I've played a game where Konrad was my genral (No magic in a VC army :Vampire1: ) It didn't go well. But it was a lot of fun, So i'd do it again. But if I was playing properly, Probably Vlad as i don't like my lord bravely hiding behind my troops.

2) Konrads army would lose. But between the other two in game terms i think manfred would have the edge because of the masses of magic.

If the second question is in terms of fluff I would say Mannfred.

Even though he is Vlad's get and thus a generation less I would say in terms of most recent powerlevels (e.g. Vlad up to his Death and Mannfred up to his or after his ressurection) Mannfred is greater.
Vlad, even if he is a master vampire, whilst being incredibly physically powerfull and being very talented and well schooled in Necromancy did little to further his power in comparison to Mannfred.
Mannfred went out and learnt from the greatest tutors, drank the blood of the eldest he could find to grow more powerful and sought out magical artefacts and texts.

So I think Mannfred's magic would crush Vlad, although it would be close.

Konrad is purely second rate in comparison.

Vlad.

I think he is the coolest personally, and I liked his depiction the best. He also started the whole thing after all. I also feel he was the most successful. Even the book says "first and greatest".

In terms of gameplay:

He is very deadly, with the number of attacks he has. Being equipped with my favorite magic weapon is even far better. He has nice Vampiric powers which help not only make him deadlier (especially in a challenge), but also help break the unit if you don't outnumber, or they don't care about fear. He also boosts his terror with Aura of Dark Majesty.

Combined with the full power of the Carstein Ring, he is also tough to kill permanently.

I might be happier with a custom Vampire Lord in some ways, but Vlad has his own strengths to be sure.
