I've been thinking about a paint scheme for my newly acquired sphinx and I really like the jade look, but I was thinking that Lapis Lazuli would be really awesome also. The only problem is that NOBODY sells Lapis Lazuli colored acrylic paint. Has anybody made a mixture that resembles Lapis Lazuli or knows of a way to get Lapis Lazuli paint?

I looked at photos of the stone itself and it seems to be very saturated blue with hues going into purples or duller blues. Something like Macragge Blue from GW, Ultramarine paint from Army Painter or Cygnar Base Blue from Privateer Press mixed with a tiny bit of purple seems to be a good start.

Well, as Lapis Lazuli is literally the origin of the colour "ultramarine", I would use Ultramarine blue (Macragge Blue now I guess). Of course, that is the colour of the ground mineral used as a pigment, rather than big lumps of it, but let's not be too fussy ;)

I've got a piece somewhere, or at least a lump of chalky rock from Afghanistan with some deep blue streaks in it. I don't actually know if it occurs in enormous pieces that you can make a sphinx out of (but, fantasy).

I don't know if there are pieces that large either, but some of the larger pieces are human-sized. At the very least, there are pieces large enough to make a mini-sphinx... if you know what I mean...

So I based with Naggaroth Night then I mixed 2 parts Ultramarine from Acrylicos Vallejos, 1 part Stormhost Silver and 1 part Naggaroth Night for the blue. I forgot to take pictures of the dried blue, but here's the end result after flicking gold (also from AV) and silver on it. I made the stripe by laying out thin lines of Stormhost Silver, gold (AV), Abbadon Black.
