Hello All,

Yesterday my Terrorgheist was behind a hill but this got shot down easily :( so this was happening

Because the terrorgheist is so large the bolttrower had a true line of sight.... hate this rule the thing is behind a mountain/hill...
Because he is a large target the bolttrower didnt get a penalty for shooting over his own unit (cover doesnt work for large target??)
no penalty for skirmisher rule

Did we play this correct?

Your Tbat is not a skirmisher, it is one model. whereas BRB clearly states on p70; "flying units with more than one model have the skirmisher special rule"
Furthermore, Tbat is a Large target, BRB p72; "cannot claim cover modifiers for obstacles" a unit standing in front of the Boltthrower is an obstacle counting as hard cover, yet if you look from the boltthrower PoV to the Bat, clearly he doesnt need to shoot behind the unit in between, he can just shoot directly at the monstrously large Tbat. Thus there is no coverclaim whatsoever.

If he can see it, he can shoot it, yet being a large target also takes away any possible modifiers for to hit. So you have been playing it correct.

Tbat is an easy target for anything that shoots.

I don't think that's right. Units don't count as obstacles. Only stuff like fences and walls and such. Hills and forests aren't obstacles they're terrain so you would have gotten a cover modifier. If he is behind a unit shooting over it he'd get an additional modifier.

mm interesting, since that will change alot of shots a DE player has shot at me.
I always assumed that shooting over units wouldnt count for Large Targets to hitmodifiers.
Interested in having more people pouring their thoughts on that

shooting through units/terrain will benefit you with cover, assuming that the unit/terrain blocks more than half your model from the bolt thrower's Line of Sight. Just remember wings do not count towards the model's size for determining cover

Prety sure in the brb it talks about interviening units as counting as obsticals that provide hard cover so if shooting at a large targe with a interviening unit there should be no to hit modifier other than range and movement. Dont have the brb on me so cant check but im prety sure thats how it works.

Intervening units aren't classed as obstacles, but they only count as hard cover if they obscure line of sight to the majority of the model.

Hills, forests, and other such features of the landscape are classed as terrain, so would still grant cover.

Obstacles are typically smaller man-made structures, like fences and walls (buildings are a separate category).

So the conclusion being that a Tbat gets a covermodifier for being behind a hill, a wood, a large building that obscures more that half of its body?
