Went through the rest of the items and they seem pretty good, rather see how the pan out in the game before changing them any further.

And really, there isn't much else. There are some rather over the top syngergy within the list but I've spoken about that before...

So... Not much else at the moment.

Righty, time to take a look at the characters. As usual, I am not here to offend anyone but I am revewing the list with my 'opponent goggles'.

You've already noted my view on the magical nature I'm sure but a short recap. Magic levels + rituals + books and items + bound items = Abit heavy, especially when you consider the powerful lore and bound items in the list(some are infact game winners).

The Zenith Lord: Skip the rituals for this one. He's incredibly tough, deadly, adds alot of to any unit he joins. Terror is nothing to be laughed at either. Fear would have been enough for him. I think he would add abit too much to a unit while be inherantly deadly(even without magic items). He's tough, 2+ save in hth, killing blow.
For instance; Zenith lord with a unit of Cultists with flails. Let's say 24 strong. Add in swarm banner. What I want to emphasis on here is the ease to get a very powerful synergy effect. Unbreakable infantry, tough lord, it will always march on and punishes your opponent for engaging it with more units(due to the banner).
It is all just a little bit too easy. I also wonder why core units have 40pts banners available too them? The argument that they're costly doesn't quite work for me as they're not bad banners either. If you want to be more deathstar-ish, just give them the range banner. I think we need a few 25pts banners to warrant core units with magic banners.

The Revenant: This is the unit I think I have the most trouble with by far. It is very deadly, terror, hatred, ethereal, unseen death, magical aura, casts 2 rituals, 4+ ward save, 100pts of magic items. It doesn't need to choose armour or protection, you've already given it for 'free' and a Great Weapon is probably your best bet. So the 100pts are perfect to put your scrolls at so the MPs can focus on power dice, the mantle of ritual mastery is an obvious choice for him as well. This character will make your opponent cry, as even with magic attacks it is similiar to a very tough fighter lord. You will want to have a minimum of 2 MPs when selecting this lord character.
My suggestion here would be; Drop the ward save and make it so he contributes +1 PD per turn for any wizard in the same unit(so it is possible to have several wizards with him). This would make him more 'ethereal' and also more restrained in how he contributes to the magic phase.

Reaper: Abit of 'too much at once' here too. I'd ditch the extra weapon options. KB on the hit roll is powerful and 'assassin'-like enough. Definitely skip the re-rolls here too. Not sure about magic items here either. Being Ethereal and all I supposed he'd just drop em :P

Zenith Prince: Probably skip the full plate here, heavy is more befitting his rank.

Some general thoughts; There are abit too many re-rolls, hatred, special 'special rules' and positive modifiers. It all just tend to stack abit to easily and too quickly.

Hey guys and gals, probably shouldn't be posting whilst loaded up on painkillers, but I guess I'm too commited! (or need to be commited lol! Wisdom teeth cannot contain me... much!) I'd like to throw in my 2 cents worth on the Lords/ Heroes too...

The Zenith Lord: I'd suggest going the other way to Danceman here, give him 2 rituals, but lessen some of his special rules, I'd drop terror to fear (maybe give a magic item option for terror?), Also, I'd make his implacable will have the same effects as the Princes "Captain of the guard" and the Nagashi captains "Captain of the Nagashi" rules and not give the super awesome advantages it does atm, also, with the potential of having a BSB + Zenith Lord + Necrophytes for a -3 to crumbling casualties... not to mention the Priests book which is another D3 I believe?

The Revenant: To be frank I'd drop the ethereal and make him like the spectral cavalry, 2+ save and 5+ ward is still mighty good to have standard! If this were the case I'd maybe allow weapon options, so he's not always fielded the exact same way...

Reaper: I agree with Danceman here, he seems mighty powerful, can't really make any recommendations at first glance though, will try him out before commenting..

Zenith Prince: I found these guys fine, they're not as "killy" as some races options, but they're tough. I like the full plate on them as it adds to the compromise of taking magic armour/ weapons or not (weapons loose KB as there's no option that allows it, armour goes down to heavy regardless)

My thoughts on the mage changes are still under consideration, will let you know after another play test or 2, but I believe they should require an item or maybe a common book to get rituals. I'd also like to see the books removed from the magic items list and setup seperately like Bloodline powers/ Gifts of Chaos/ Ogre Bignames etc.

Hey DoN, can you give us a rundown on the updates you've just done to the list? Just perusing it now... found the Necrophytes (might need to fit them into my playtesting list...) was there anything else?

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but there are some sites (the Ogrestronghold comes to mind) and programs (such as Battlechronicler) which can be used to play and post a turn by turn report (with pics and dicerolls) of a game (played online). I think it might be very helpful for someone to go through a playtest game as (at least in my opinion) it would be the best way to get an extensive analysis of how ever unit, character, etc works.

Cheers,
~Nihilus

Hey Nihilus! Where have you been? How have you been? Why haven't you been posting goddamit? xd

Yeah that is a great suggestion, and one I have wanted to implement. However I need to find out whether it is copyright by the various forums (such as Ogrestronghold), however when I ask the question people go mysteriously quiet or I don't get an answer?

Anyone know?

Ok, the mounts are now in.

The special characters are really an add-on, it's the main list that's important.

Now it looks like were are ready to create the beta rules. If everyone can have a look and see if anything is missing?

Note: Not a review to change things, I think we agreed to playtest first. I mean is there anything missing from the list that should be there, an error etc?

If we're wish listing I'd kinda like to see a corpse catapult. One that maybe doesn't do much damage on the strike but does a plague-cloud type effect... not sure how it'd work, but I like the idea of a corrupted catapult, sort of Nehekeharan but with its own twist as opposed to the screaming skull. I wasn't keen on the zombie-pult weapons team but I think something that fits with the Nehekeharan theme with Nagash's own improvements could be characterful...

lol fair enough, looks pretty reasonable to me, we have a lot of options, but if we find its too much we can cut out units that over-compensate or are redundant. GO-GO GADGET PLAYTESTING!!!

Now, to work a Dragonshade into an army...

Not sure really. I think the Revenant, Reaper and Spectral Cav really need testing, as they have been hotly discussed.

Now, I am closing this review thread. I think we have changed enough to wait for playtesting. I will start new playtesting threads
