Im still deciding on what i use for my lord.

For me its either Nightshroud, and 5+ ward talisman, dragonhelm, 1S sword, red fury quickblood

OR

Nightshroud, dragonhelm, 2S sword, red fury, quickblood, ironcurse icon.

I run both choices with heavy armour and shield ofc so i have 2+ normal save.
Both choices are roughly the same points, but i still think that the first option is the best choice. Option 1 gives me 5 s6 attacks, AND 5+ ward save (+2 ward vs flaming). While the second option gives 5 s7 attacks and no ward save at all (apart from parry save, and 6+ ward vs warmachines, 2+ ward vs flaming).

Ur thoughts on both choices?

ps: my first post =D

You can't take Nightshroud with Dragonhelm as both are from the Magic Armour slot. This means you will only be getting a 3+ AS on foot not the 2+ you have mentioned. You will also not receive a parry save on either build as you have a magic weapon which cannot be used with a shield for a parry save (only mundane hand weapon + shield get this).

Ty for the reply. I totally overlooked the fact that u cant have 2 magic slots for the armour (even though 1 is technically a helmet). Need to go to the kitchen again to make the best combat lord :P.

still though, even without the dragon helm,
is it worth it to take a 5+ ward with the nightshroud and have +1s,
or
is it better to go all out in the offensive and get 2S (with the ironcurse icon)?
or
is it perhaps better to skip the nightshroud and go to the 4+ Ward route?

Im still leaning towards nightshroud combined with the 5+ ward myself..

Try this...

Vampire Lord
Heavy Armor + Shield + Lance
Hellsteed
Nightshroud
Talisman of Preservation
The Other Trickster's Shard
Red Fury
Quickblood
Beguile

I have used this build multiple times and the only time I ever lost him was from combat results because of Mindrazor and dark-elves. Other than that he is absolutely dominating with survivability.

Its a good build, but I prefer my general to be on foot, so more units can benefit from the march bubble (usually I put him in the middle).
I guess putting him in a unit with black knights and play a refused flank tactic can work though. The lance is an excellent weapon choice, because u really want high strength's attacks on your general.

I have been tempted to put him on a dragon with nightshroud, talisman of preservation, red fury, quick blood, lance and great weapon. (if you can take both) Taking both lance and gw so when he charges he has +1 as and rerolls to hit and in protracted combats still has +2 strength

Careful with the zombie dragon. If your opponent decides to attack it instead of the lord he could possibly generate enough combat results with a unit to disintegrate the lord! Not to mention a zombie dragon is like hitting the broad side of a barn for war-engines because of its base size.

Whereas on the hellsteed he has no choice but to try attacking the Lord.

You only have the huge base on the shiny new ZD. I'm loving my lead ZD (the one that's down on all fours) sitting on it's 50x50. You field the model on the base it's shipped with.

This may be considered fromage by some, but is (was) clearly in the rules.

Hmm I am actually ordering a new zombie dragon base for my old pewter model and I will do some kind of insane modeled base diorama for it. Not only will this bring the model into 8th addition vampires but is probably in the best spirit of the game! Modeling should never give you an advantage or disadvantage and if in doubt the actual modernized models dimensions made for the game by the games designers should be used. Not only do i think this is fair but the models rules and stats are probably based with this in mind. If you doubt this just look at the old dragon stat lines vs the new one.

I have to agree there. If you went by the just put him on a 50x50 base logic, you could put him on a 20x20 base, which we would have to call shenanigans.
