I don't think the Emperor's birth was quite as simple as a load of psykers deciding that life isn't for them. It was 100 (or 1000, can't remember) shamans that came together in a mass ritual, to create the Emperor. These shamans were all super-powerful, but the scale of powerfulness was logarithmic, not linear; Emprah is super-duper powerful after all.

The thing that gets me is the Emperor's mistakes. He makes a deal with Chaos, then stabs them in the face but somehow doesn't expect retaliation. Then when he leaves for Terra, he doesn't explain the situation properly, so everything is screwed over.

The worst case of explanation-fail is Magnus. I realise he might not have wanted to hear he was destined to sit on the Golden Throne and power the Imperial Webway, but the Emperor could at least have told him about the Webway (and hence why he was on Terra). He was a seriously bad parent.

I've only read about Emperor background on some 40k wiki so might not be the best source. But there it said that the Emperor was born on the pre-historic earth. The shamans who made him had immense powers, amongst those powers the ability to transfer their consciousness to newborns, and therefore never die. However, after several generation of of re-birth their powers to come back to life got weaker, daemons on the other side were building up, who took their souls for eternal damnation before they manage to get back into the mortal world. The Shamans tried to prevent this up build of daemons by fighting Chaos in the world (i.e stop such feeling that creates Chaos). But they failed. Fewer and fewer made it back after death and their numbers diminished. A plan was formed. The shamans all came together, several thousands, and perfumed a ritual. They all took their lives at once, and the sheer numbers of souls entering the realm of chaos made sure most of them made it through. Then all souls entered one body. They used all their powers to put all of their consciousnesses in one body, who became immortal due to all the souls (or something). This being became the Emperor after living amongst the people for thousands of years. He did all he could to prevent Chaos from getting too powerful, but with more humans came more feeling and thus more Chaos (but what about all the other things in the galaxy, didn't eldar make enough Chaos by themselves?). When man spread throughout the galaxy thing were getting out of hand, there was now way for the Emperor to continue to prevent Chaos the way he had done for so many years. So he did the only reasonable thing to do (?) size control of the entire population of mankind and enforce a way of living upon all other using his legions of pumped up super humans.

I am seriously lacking in some 40K fluff here. The Emperor made a deal with Chaos?

The First Heretic is a *brilliant* book, lots of juicy stuff. Essentially, the Emperor struck a pact with the Chaos Gods to give him the knowledge to create the Primarchs. In return, he would conquer the universe in their name.

After getting what he needed, the Emperor proceeded to cover the Primarch-growing-labs in Geller fields, and spread the "Imperial Truth" and stamp out all religion. Chaos Gods get angry, snatch the Primarchs away (SPOILER actually happens in the First Heretic, some seriously cool Warp-time-distortion), scatter them across universe and influence them all in some way.

Today isn't much of a rant on fluff as such, but more of a rant on well the people that play the game.

Now we all have to admit that some way or another we hate the younger members of our hobby. Whether it be due to their proxying, their monochrome armies, being absolutely too easy to beat and boring. But there's one crowning, sh*tty glory to it all for me: their ridiculous "what if" fluff delusions.

Here's an example "What if the emperor hadn't been wounded think how awesome it would be, he would own".

Or: "What if the chaos god/necron god/eldar god/whatever on mars wakes up? HAHA all the imperium n00bs would be p4wn3d."

I think its just the sodding naivity of it all, or the face that everything they think up reslults in their side owning and all the other sides (usually yours if he's talking to you) being completely owned, yada yada.

What are they trying to do? Gain some kind of moral victory?

Is the bit about the emperor making the pact really in first heretic?
I think people (no matter the age) are entitled to their "what if's" after all that's just it, purely theoretical and never going to actually happen for the most part.
As for the last part I agree with you on that.

Yeah!

Oh, I'm fine with what if's I mean that's half the chat about fluff anyway, its just 10 year old "what if's"

Here's one I got the other day:

"What if some mindshackle scarabs got on the emperor"

The irritation is a) the sheer impossibility of what they suggest b) they do it as if to say "if my side tried just a 'little' bit harder they'd win the universe and would own everyone by doing what I'm contemplating. so in effect, yes

It's true, its what they all think

"Oh just you wait until more tyranids come"

"Oh when guilliman wakes up you're all screwed"

"Oh when Khaine comes back you're all screwed"

etc etc etc..

As probably the only Ultrasmurf fan over twenty, I think it would have been better if they had just killed Guilliman off. And for that matter El Johnson too, who can sleep for 10,000 years ffs?

Wow, you must be. Yeah well I consider the ultra's as the kiddies army, no offence, they're "the best" they have "the coolest characters" and just generally they're too powerful compared to all the other marines..

In a manner of speaking. I won't spoil it. :clown:

(PS: It's a Necron god on Mars. xD )

10,000 years? Heh, the Necrons slept for much longer than that...

Topic of the day: What would happen if a tyranid hive fleet goes into the eye of terror? Would the eye shut, would the tyranids just mutate beyond anything and die? Would they pass harmlessly into the warp?

Well the tyranids would probably just pass into the warp and then get killed by daemons. Although the shadow in the warp affects psykers' abilities to tap into the warp, I don't think it would affect the eye itself

A Gw summer campaign would happen and the results would effect the fluff for a little while.
I suspect the nids would mutate if they tried to harvest a deamonworld they may pick up a few biomorphs as well.
Interesting prospect.

Yeah, its an odd one. Do you think if the nid fleet was large enough and took up the entirety of the actual eye, and surrounded it, that it would do anything? Nids aren't psychic nuls like some humans, they just mess the warp up. Maybe they would scatter the eye of terror like a scrambled egg, making it weaker but larger?

That would be a possibility. The deamon reaction would also add to more power in the warp. A sort of focusing to combat the loss of integrity.
A massive deamon incursion would lead to a complete sector wide war as well.

The wise one speaks!

Yeah sorry guys this thread'll be back up and running the second I'm back on my feet.
