I have got a trial shift at my local GW. I was wondering if any of you guys have had an interview with them, and if so, do you have any tips to help me get the job?

Try to imagine what they want from their employees.

Create an enjoyable atmosphere.
Sell product.
Pro-GW.

These can run contrary to each other, so just use your common sense.

Trying to sell is a negative, its sales person that.
I was talking to my local GW manager who ironically used to be head of GW recruitment and Helsinki manager.

As long as you can make it seem interesting and enjoyable and know at least something on the hobby you will be fine, the job is 90% attitude.

Working in a GW store you don't sell product? Must have different stores over there. All the employees are sales people here. They know the rules (sorta), but all of them will process a sale.

They're there to run the store.

They are not allowed to act like salesmen.
I was confused by this at first and where as they can advise you what to get they can not hard sell anything.
Its a small market they dominate so its very much warm selling as they come to you, you gain their interest in a subject you know but you try to stear them but need to know when to cool your jets as such.

They are their to gain interest for the hobby.
The ex head of GW recruitment is my local so I have spoke to him at length on it.
Different countries have different tactics in staff no doubt, when we need sales here we launch events and campaigns etc rather than try to sell things to people, now and then make suggestions for armies as a way of a probing question but that is all.

Well, I had my interview, and I think it went as well as it could have. The shop was really quiet, and I only got the chance to speak to one customer, so I'm a bit concerned that I didn't get enough of an opportunity to make a good impression.

I know it is all in jest but...

I know a guy who works at GW stockholm(or might have quit that job now, don't remember). Anyways, he had quite a few horror stories about employee discount and selling to others. The way the manager or whoever found out was internet-forums, word of mouth(you can always count on someone to brag that he's got a contact in GW and his stuff 50% off or just an unintentional slip of the tounge at the wong moment) or buying up suspiciously many products. In short, it is a very very small world these days.

Inevitably your friends of yours will ask you to but ask them back "do you want me to lose my job?". So stay strong, don't give in.

Yeah, if i get the job, I'm just going to use the discount for myself. There's no way I would risk losing such an awesome job.

Sorry DoN. :(
