heya all.

when i first started vc, i was bad... real bad. but hey since i got the rules down and played a few matches i found myself utterly destroying my mates game in, game out. this is bad. i play for fun, and i am starting to think that getting smashed by me is not as fun for my mates. so i was thinking: what if i said screw the reasonable win formula off, and just do something fun! this actually got me excited coz now i can suddenly use the non-essential units like zombies, spirit hosts, bats and stuff.

so i was thinking, what do you guys think would be fun list options to try, that may not have the best tactical outcome, but have some awesome style to it - mainly i was thinking i was gonna make use of my horde of 60 zombies... (maybe start with 30 or so, lets not get owned for HORRIBLE choices!!! XD )

On the topic of this, I have a 1500s tournament coming up and I am really itching to take 2 units of 100 zombies, 2 corpse carts with necromancers and a vampire lord with vamps lore, just to see how well I could go (I am guessing the bottom of the pile) but I think it would be pretty fun. That all is of course, if they allow me to proxy (hoping they will with such a ridiculous army :P )

It was either 2 units of 100 zombies or 10 small units of 20 to just tie up their units all game, slowly feeding them points, which I also think would be a reasonable bit of fun :P

I am pretty well known at my store for taking spirit hosts and for always attempting to cast winds of undeath to generate me more spirit hosts. there are just so many silly things you can do with them so give some of those a whiz as well. Basically just take whatever you think would be humerous, or set yourself a theme like my zombie army and start the gaming

You know that your vampire lord cannot join zombies right?

Of course. The vampire lord would have to hang round the back. I was considering giving it wings just to ensure that it can always keep away from it's foes.

Here's a version of a crazy list I've been toying with. It has two hilarious blocks of Zombies, i field them 10x10, more narrow and they don't fit in your deployment zone :)
Dire Wolves and Varghulfs are mainly there to protect the flanks of the Zombies. Between them goes the Grave Guards with BSB, lord and necro in bunker behind GG's.

Lord takes Lore of Light for laughs - he casts The Speed of Light (or Pha's Protection) on one Zombie unit and give Helm WS to the other, making sure they don't go anywhere while the Grave Guards do their thing. Just make sure you don't get drawn into a multi-combat with Zombies and another friendly unit. I've seen Warriors of Chaos go through them in a couple of rounds of combat.

Vampire Lord lvl 3, Lore of Light
The Arkayne: Master of the Black Arts
The Arkayne: Forbidden Lore
The Master: Lord of the Dead
Talisman of Preservation
Helm of Commandment
Earthing Rod

Wight King BSB, great weapon
The Gem of Blood
Accursed Armour

Necromancer
Dispel Scroll
Ironcurse Icon
Invocation of Nehek
Vanhel's Danse Macabre

100 Zombies with standard and musician
100 Zombies with standard and musician
12 Skeleton Warriors with standard (bunker)
5 Dire Wolves

30 Grave Guard with full command and great weapons
Banner of the Barrows

Varghulf

wow u guys have a LOT of zombies!!!!!!!!!! how many would u have to proxy??

i feel that my 60 zombies is pretty silly seeing as i never actually use them!

here is some feedback as to how the aforementioned battle went:

i got violated... hard. pride.... dead.... cast..... invocation on it.....

i roughly had

lord - lvl 3, infinite hatred, red fury, sword of bloodshed (with skellies)

mannfred the acolite on barded nightmare

konrad (with ghouls)

and a thrall with ghoulkin and flayed hauberk

20 skellies

two blocks of 25 ghouls

corpse cart

prolly about 30 grave guard

4 spirit hosts

varghulf

AND
two units of 30 zombies (i used other models for counters for ones i raised later)

my opponent had something like:

lvl 4 wizard with lore of light and dispelling staff

captain of the empire

foot warrior priest

luthor hussy

20 swordsmen

20 militia

10 handgunners

hellblaster

cannon

mortar

steam tank

and about 10 knightly orders

turn 1 fail: lost roll for first turn, ghouls still moved up tho. mannfred was hit by a cannonball and killed. konrads unit was violated by a mortar. konrad lost a wound and about half of his unit. skellies were torn to bits by the hellblaster leaving prolly 10 left with the lord. varghulf was shot and killed early on aswell - i think by the steam tank.

i successfully cast two spells in the entire match (his dispelling was too nuts for my feeble lvl 3 wizard.) - one was a vanhels, the other was summon undead horde which got me about 12 zombies...

the lord really did kill alot though, in a kind of epic last stand, (which is also when he finally cast something)

oh and the zombies both got killed by handgunners in combat :D

all in all.. not a fun match.... but that was just awful luck early on.... cant blame the zombads for that rly...

In that list I gave i would be proxying 160 zombies :P (basically every infantry model i have for VC becomes a zombie for a game)

And I wouldnt beat yourself up about losing the game, or blame it on the zombies. that list is just plain mean. There is little that VC can do (competitive or not) against a gunline like that other than shamble across the table and reach te other side with less models than they have cannon crew.

I used to own about 10-12 bat swarms. The intention was to have a Vampire Lady with Summon Creatures of the Night on her own behind my blocks and just summon an absurd amount of the things. I was also planning on covering her up with a "bodyguard" of 3 swarms. I was also going to make her as Lahmian as possible (Helm, Crimson Gem..).
What inspired the idea? Seeing a ton of vampire art over the years where they are surrounded by huge amounts of bats. It's a shame the things have never had good rules in this game.

I would just try something different than what you're doing.

There's two main vampire lords: Magic and close combat. If you always take one, try the other. Magic is all well and good, but there's a certain satisfaction in your vampire wading in with 7 attacks chopping a unit to bits.

A hybrid lord can also be fun, as can blood knights, beefed up zombies, staff of damnation, wraiths...

Why don't you give some more information on what you currently field?
