Can you use Make Way to shove another character into the second rank, or can it only be used on rnf & command?

The scenario I'm thinking of is 2 characters and full command 5-wide. Combat character shoves the mage out of the way if needed.

As best I can tell from the BRB, I would end up with 3 characters in the front rank, and two command, but as Vipoid can readily attest, sometimes I miss things face-palmingly obvious.

P 92 BRB - As many command group models as possible must be placed in the front rank.

In your scenario of three hero / lord type character and a full command in a five wide formation, three command must be in the front rank leaving two lord / hero type models to fill the front rank. This will push the third lord / hero character type model into the third rank.

The rub comes in when the unit champion dies, in that case the third character must make way to the front replacing the rnf model that would naturally step up to fill the vacancy created by the slain unit champion, putting a lightly armored and poor defensive necromancer in jeopardy.

Not true. The command starts in front rank but make way moves can push the command into another rank.

But anyways im not sure if a make way move can push a chara allready in front rank to the second. Its an interesting question and I await the response with a keen interest.

i completely misunderstood the question. I was thinking during deployment. in the case of CC characters can push command models to back ranks.

As far as the issue at hand, make ways are a way to get character models not in btb into btb. ive never seen a situation where make way was used to move a model already in btb out of btb by switching character models.

Its quite clear that you cant if you read the BRB, because it tells you exactly who he can exchange position with from the front rank. "You can exchange him with rank and file model(s), including the command group, that are in base to base contact with the enemy.". I hope that helps :)

This is true. Now a second question is, can he make way every round if needed? I have only played the first "beginning of combat" i.e. right after the charge. Yet having read many other forums there seems to be a lot of folks saying the character can move every round.
What do you guys think?
pg. 100 BRB for reference

I don't think you can make multiple 'make ways'. After the first round of combat, the character is already in combat and so he cannot 'make way' anymore. But with a combat reform, I agree it should be possible.

Misunderstood my question I believe.
My question is, can there be multiple make ways due to loss of BTB contact because of casualties? I want to say yes. What do y'all think?

Pg.100 Make Way "At the start of combat (before impact hits are resolved), if a character's unit is in combat..."

I would say it happens in the first round of combat only because it states "At the start of combat" and references impact hits which only occur in the first round. It gives a specific time for all make way moves to take place so I assume its only at this time. I may be wrong though as I rarely use make way. Although this raises the question of challenges, because at no point from when I just checked the rule book does it state that the character who slinks to the back gets to then make way again, does that mean its possible for a character who's refused one challenge may never get to attack or be attacked in a prolonged combat?
