Making Stone

I am trying to make stone barrier and I have no idea even how to begin. Any ideas?

What kind of barrier are you after? Milliput (I know, I go on about it a lot) could be good to make a stone wall, or something similar. If you're looking for a stone barrier as in a big rock, broken up slate can work quite well.

You can try some extruded polystyrene foam, similiar to common styropore, but harder and without the bubbles, can be easily cut into rough shapes and drybrushed to look like a stone - my varghulf HERE is standing on something like this.

Also, you can also use pebbles, glue them with superglue and paint

I am converting up a slann palanquin (The thing the slann ride) and I think extruded polystyrene foam will be the way to go for converting it or building one from scratch...now I just need to find out where I can buy some.

Where would I be able to buy it?

It can be found in stores with building materials - one normally insulate buidlings with this Other than that, you should be also able to find it in art stores or modelling stores, it's also used to build models. And there's also ebay.

The only thing to watch out is glueing it, as super glue and also some other glues dissolve it rather than join it with something - but should you ask for a glue for styrofoam in an art store [or just any store with more than just the simples paper glue ] you should be able to find it. Cork is awesome. You can buy cork board pieces. They usually come in 12 x 12 inch squared tiles, and a pack of 3 from Wal Mart is around 10 bucks.

I've used it for several things.

Base for an AT.





And I built up a base for my Black Coach.



Really easy to work with. Very forgiving. No special glue, just super glue. Just spray black and paint up gray to white. Sprinkle some flock on it and away you go!

Oh yeah, cork... I totally forgot about that... It is really easy and forgiving to use, but if you want some round, smooth stones, you'll find that cork isn't down for something like this So it depends on what you really need.

Good point, not good for rounded stone surfaces, but great for rough stone.

On the one you posted you can still see the little balls it's made of - like common polystyrene, it'll crumble and the balls will always be visible to some extent. Extruded polystyrene is more 'solid' and homogeneous.

Check here - it's a big block, but I wasn't able to find anything smaller at the moment.

I've seen on the internet that people called it also 'high density polystyrene' and 'pink foamcore insulation' - about the last one, it does not have to be pink, but's it's very often not-white my own is blue.
