Making Stringy Guts & Entrails

Like the title says, I'll be working on something shortly that requires innards dangling everywhere and being torn & stretched.

Imagine half of a zombie dragging itself along with it's guts in tow, or a person being ripped in two only still connected by a long string of guts... what would you use to make the guts?

Two things I've heard of , but never tried myself.
The old plastic Skaven clan rat box had separate tails, which made excellent 'guts'.
I have heard of people melting sprue sections with a hot air gun and stretching them to make stringy ,gut-like, strands. I'd be very careful with this one, it will give off toxic fumes!.
Hope someone comes up with something easier!

@hairyjeff Cheers for your suggestions. I have several of those old clan rats' tails and they'd be great for Ogres' guts but seem too big for humans'.

As for the melting sprue sections, I might give it a go as a last resort. I don't really want to be burning plastic under my nose.

Some ideas I've thought of to try are;
-using a hot glue gun and a toothpick to separate a blob of glue,
-thin pieces of wire put into place then hardened by glue.

That's all I've got for now...

Thought about this, so I'm going to try something at work today with sprue and acetone. Will let you know if it works!

You could also try to use green stuff (or just clay) and roll long strings

I was just about to say that maybe simple greenstuff will work the best - I did dangling entrails with greenstuff and it turned out very well. Your idea with wires could also work quite well, you can then cover it with varnish or liquid green stuff and get a thicker and glossier gut things. I'd actually prefer these methods rather than fussing with hot glue or molten plastic.

I've made guts spilling out from both metal wire and from Green Stuff. The zombie standard bearer in the "ogre" unit is walking away from his legs using stilts in his arms, and the torso and legs are still connected by his guts. Those guts are made from wire.

For blood strings use Uhu all-adhesive. Mix a blood tone you like, f.e. BftBG with a dark brown, add a little 'Ard coat, and dip with an (old!) brush the blood and the glue together. You have to be a little quick, because the mixtures dries fast. For the guts..I go with green stuff and wire most of the time, as already suggested. The 'Ard coat effect with pinky-fresh-gut tone does it's job

Cheers for all the tips lads, I'll give a few of these non-burning methods a go before sticking my project together and hopefully get some pictures up of the results.

@Mad 'At @Borgnine @dongilles I like the control and durabilty that comes from using greenstuff and wire so will probably hit these methods up.

@Theerteen Your idea sounds nice & messy and likely to give a gruesome appearance but seems to lack control. I might give this a shot for giggles though.

The bigger problem -in my opinion- is, that the strings are extremely fragile. So if you don't have a very effective and protective way for storage and transport, the strings will rip even before the classical skeleton weapon arm breaks. Controlling where you put the strings isn't a problem, at least I got them where I wanted them
