Wow, that mansion is grand.

And the models too. Inspiring stuff.

Now, I've got a little question that refers back to conversions you did earlier in this thread; the Wight King on Steed. How did you sort the legs of the rider to fit a mounted position?

i love the WK conversion you did...personaly one of the only good thing for the GG sprew, the other is for making black knights...just my opinion =P, your fel bats still rock, black knight is nicely posed, and the eyes on the vamp look great =)

The eyes are superb. Great glowing look to them. I am impressed with the mansion. I would love to see a small, fearful hamlet go up around it too!

The legs used for my mounted skeleton models all come from the Tomb Kings light cavalry/mounted archers box and are not modified at all. ;)

Ooh, now that sounds like my level of easiness. I'll have to look into gathering myself some of this. Thanks boss.

I love the WK conversion - he looks so more dynamic. have you got any painted pics yet?

How did you do the glowing eyes? I normally do mine putting a wash over white / light areas.

sir i think i may be in love with you
haha seriously these models are an inspriation to us mere mortals!

i think the thing i like the most about them is the skin
it looks so real with the easy blend of colours
also the fell bats idea is pure genious!

I do pretty much the same, but after the wash I add a little line or a dot of white. The eyes of my mounted lord and the female vampire started out with a base of white, which I washed with a thinned out dark purple/blue wash a few times untill they had the depth I wanted. Then I painted a little white line on each eye.

Anyways, at last I've got some pics to upload. Both the WK and Krell need some static grass added to their bases though.

WK

Krell. (Excuse the dark pics) I was planning to enter the painting competition with this model, but (as usual I might add) things got in the way. The original model is in fact the very first GW miniature I saw, and it is what got me hooked on this hobby. (My first army was Eldar though, and not VC) Anyways, I felt that that I should honor the original miniature so I decided to use the same pose and paint the armor red on my converted model.

The feet are actually what I spent most time working on. The legs themselves come from the aspiring champion of Khorne. I felt that the armored feet were a bit to big (well really, they looked HUGE) so I cut them away, but left the heel. I stole some skeleton toes from a Tomb King mounted model and glued them to the legs of Krell. After that I used greenstuff to sculpt two thin armor plates on top of the toes. Armor plates is something that I gotta add to alot of future models, it's really simple and fun to make, and I personally think that they look great. In hindsight I think I should have tried sculpting some on the shoulders aswell.

I was out of metal rod, so sacrificed a small drill bit to make the axe haft.

Is it a spirit or a really really beardy face?

The second unit of ghouls is what I'm currently working on. I've also got plans to make a unit filler or two for my skeletons or GG with some spare 40x40 bases. I believe one of them will be a skeleton squire leading the mount of a champion or wight king.

Before I crawl back to the crypt I have to ask, does anyone know of a good guide on how to make light boxes? I think it's about time I try to improve the quality of my pictures.

This thread shows you how to make a cheap light box:

I love your Krell as well, a fantastic tribute to the original. Your converted wight king is superb as well, the detail and effort put in really shows.

In regards to the glowing eyes, I'll try putting that thin white line on as well and see if it works for me.

Also there will be another painting competition in the next few months, so make sure your ready to enter this time!.

Markof-

Great looking army. The green was a perfect choice. It's very vibrant and makes everything pop.

How did you do the metal plates for the feet? You mention it's really easy. I've been want to do some for my black knights legs, but haven't played with green stuff that much.

I start by flattening a piece of green stuff on my work bench. Then, using a regular craft knife, I cut a small rectangular piece of GS which I attach to the miniature with a sculpting tool. If I want to, I add a second or third plate on top of the first one to get the "scale" look. I let this cure for about 15-20 minutes and then carefully finish of the plates by touching up any damage I might have done to the GS when I attached it.

Good luck with the Black Knights :)

wow thats realy impressive
great krell model

the thing i like about the wight king is the fact that it looks realy dynamic, he could lead my grave guard into battle, if they werent dark elves that is

great work and keep going haha

Whoa, that Krell is amazing. My only qualm would be that he needs bigger horns, but that's a little one.
Again, very nice model.

Yes, like the original model.

But the conversion and modeling work looks ace. Can't suggest much - I'm getting my inspiration!

One unit filler is nearly finished, just need to add some GS to it. I went for the squire-leading-horse idea. The horse needs some filling, and some sort of saddle. Pics will get uploaded as soon as I make some progress. The ghouls are coming along nicely, the basecolor for the flesh has been added to them. But will see when I can be arsed to finish them. My new project has been placed as #1 on my prio list!

I picked up a Masque of Slaanesh model today. I plan to convert her into a Silver Princess lookalike (from page 50-something in the new Army Book iirc). There's quite alot of conversion work to do though in order to make her look less demonic and more vampiric, the legs alone are loads of work. I'm either gonna have to cut em away and replace them with another pair (I've got some spare legs from some Witch Elves that perhaps could work, the ones with high boots) or somehow cover them, perhaps by adding to the dress and making it cover the legs and feet. The arms are quite easy work and not really something I'm worried about. The horns im gonna have to cut away, and I think I'm simply gonna sculpt hair to cover any damage done to the head. The Silver Princess looks rather aristocratic, and I want that to get mirrored in my conversion aswell. However, I also want her to have a bit of an ethereal feeling to her, so I think I'm going to add the spirits from Mannfred to her dress or to the base itself so that they sort of float around her.

Pics will be up as soon as possible.

Also I want to ask you ladies and gentlemen, what sort of unit filler do you think would fit a unit of skeletons on the march? My first idea was to make some sort of transport for a load of spears, so that I could have the option to use the unit as spear wielding in non-WYSIWYG games. Problem is that there simply isn't enough room on a 40x40 base to create a transport. I'd like to hear any ideas on how you think soldiers could transport spears if they wasn't carrying em themselves and didn't have access to a wagon of some sort. :)

Perhaps they could have a few skeletal steeds along with them? Strap/attach the spears to the horses to make it look like the horses are on muling duty. :)

Two such steeds should be able to fit on a 40x40.

Couple skeletons popping out of graves to join the ranks! You could use the coffin shields for this. I used one to model a coffin underneath my tomb banshee. Or I'd love to see some conversion work done on the Tomb Kings bone giant for either a skeleton giant or a skeleton unit filler.

For the spears, you could make a bunch of spears with heads on them and then maybe have one or two skellies in there holding up a spear.

That wight king is fantastically dynamic, really a great converting-painting job! Your army is absolutely stunning!

For the filler... you could represent a vertical bundle of spears with two skeletons - one at the left and one at the right of the bundle - one carrying a torch and a shield (the shield would be great to give a sense of unity between filler skeletons and the rest of the troop) and the other holding a spear. Transports, racks ecc. could look a little too 'civilized' for brainless skeletons.

If you like something more horror-like you could go with some spears thrusted in the ground (like an abandoned battlefield) with maybe crows on them and a skeleton raising form the earth. It should give a sense of desolation.

Great work on the Krell Wight Markof. Also, how did you paint Mannfred's skin?

Previous page;)
For Mannfred's skin I used a basecoat of Dwarf Flesh darkened down a little with a bit of black and grey. To the mix I added Elf Flesh, and kept adding more and more Elf Flash each highlight stage, I also made sure the mix had that undertone of grey that I was after, and added more if it was needed. The skin was highlighted up to something like 2 parts Skull White and 1 part Elf Flesh (out of my memory), which was thinned out by water and carefully added to the most prominent parts of the face. Extremely thinned out Lich Purple was added to the deepest recesses in several thin coats.

I like this idea, I've only got one skeletal steed left though. Could perhaps sculpt some sort of carrying device for it, some simple leather straps with spears hanging on both sides. I will blue tac (I think that's what it's called atleast) it together and see how it looks.

Unit filler:

The Silver Princess-ish vampire. First time I'm sculpting cloth, looks a bit crude and out of place I think, but still rather happy with how it turned out. I tried to make what I could out of the miniature, the leaping pose wasn't really what I had in mind, but it was the most simple to make. Now it sort of looks like she's revealing her face and doing a leaping attack. The skull was added to cover up the mess I did when I tried to remove the slaaneshi pendant. Also, as you can see, I still havn't added the hair to cover the filed down horns, I will do this at the same time as I add the armor to the chest.

Had to add a boobie to the left side of the chest, as the Masque didn't have one there (but 3 on the other side instead, silly deamons). As soon as the GS has cured I will add armor to it, in the same fashion as what the other breast has got.
