You have to remember that vampire-human romance is a very one sided thing. As long as the vampire loves/is attracted to the human and has bitten the human a couple of times, the romance is mutual.

About the whole frozen in time thing. As far as I knew I thought it was just their soul and their body tethered, rather than their emotions. Cool concept though.

Or if the Strigoi Bloodline is what you're into, 30 Days of Night be one heck of a fun choice. Those comics/the movie are how I'm going to paint blood on my vampire's faces and talons/blades, and why they're going to be deathly pale grey, not the typical bluish tint I keep seeing.
