erhm....bone plates is what I was after, but got scared it was too bright so kept the light layers smaller and 2 devlans.

the red is scab red over beastbrown.
its wet in pictures +flash so looks brighter than are.
inside of capes in army are about that colour, why I tried it. but I agree it is discussable. maybe a brown or even same as plates...testing tomorrow.
your suggestion to this?

1 and 3 is equal appealing to me as for now. (1 is double time to paint though)
I will be doing 2 units, 30 strong each, so maybe both schemes could to.
needs pondering...

I see your point on the red, if the insides of the cloaks have the same colour then I have no objection.

check my slaanesh dark elves link in Sig. corsairs have it, bad pic but you get the idea.
want to bring in a little more colour to army, without overdoing it. black and white gets a tad boring in the long run.
but as you implied, it doesn't look 100% right

It's like cheer leader tryouts without the half naked females and without the boob's. Wait that means it is nothing like that at all. sigh.

I have to say of them I like the last one best. It has a better feel to it. Sorry I am so late in replying life got busy at work. (is that what you call 154 hours in two weeks) I am gonna have the wife comment on this too so you can get her perspective. I will apologize in advance for her. Kidding I think her help will be better then mine.

spent the day with painting first batch of 8 executioners, and a bunch of unit fillers for VC 5a 40x40, and 3 single 20x20. pretty basic, though 2 can fill any infantry, or MI, and that I like.
pics in a day or two.

heres a promised update.
first a few unitfillers. you've all seen them, graves and statues. but it works. mostly be used for zombies, cuz i hate them...
the 2 big statues actually can be used(yes they can) as any 40x40 or 20x20 infantry, and im quite happy with that. go vargheists!!

eyes on these will be OSL as soon as i decide if rest of army shall have blue or green eyes. will mostly likely fall on what is easiest to paint

and my entry in this month's challenge. Thanis bonecaller as a do-it-all-unitfiller, enjoy!

flash brings out the blue in hair too much.

first 8 of executioners is done.
colour scheme got down to what fitted the army best, so it became the grey/red, and 2nd unit will have the same, except whitw/bone sleves.

That colour scheme really turned out great in the end.

All looks great Melle. The bearded statue has character and I like the shield at the base, perhaps a sword protruding from the ground nearby would look good?

long time since an update, nut time for hobby has been scarce:frown:
had a few games though. first i tabled skaven, then i tabled Tomb kings - 'nuff said!
using this army

anyway. This months challenge, Mortis Engine, (well, actually we're overdue time, but logistics was involved...) a few wip shots, and also halloween special challenge Wip.
ME challenge, charon the ferryman, propelled into the battlefield by the poor souls not having gold for the trip over

pumpkin ghost, will be banshee or filler in army. might do more and have as spirit host

I like the boat engine, very cool idea. Another company had something similar to the ghostly horde that GW created to hold up one of its models and its a neat concept. Good luck with your painting!

ickybod clay, halloween challenge done.

boat test-mounted on the base, with corpsemaster/charon atop
really shouldnt have pinned and glued the hosts to the boat prepaint....
since he has no water, i wanted the ethreal host be a bit ghostlyoceanlike, so i did guillaman blue over white, then old greenglaze over that when semidry, then just followed the WD tutorial on the ethreal, going from light grey to white
weapons and armour will be solid looking, with tinbits, if the jar will arrive in post, apparently mine was all out

Wow, that's awesome! The angle of the spirits makes them look like waves, very nice, indeed.
Unfortunately, my friend found the model in a bitz bin so we don't know the company that makes it.

painting is slowly progressing, taken some pics i will try have time to upload soon.

about the lantern, there is one modelled inside the boat, and the corpsemaster is holding a torch atop his staff, so I wont have the lantern at the prow, but thanks for advice. BUT the 'skull' at the prow, I will try to osl the eyes, we'll se how it goes, but great idea!
now, back to painting

love the idea of the mortis engine, im guessing you were inspired by greek & roman mythology where the ferryman charon gave you a ride across the river styx in the underwold

so, finally finished my Mortis Engine:
first a few wip pics, then the finished result:

banshee pinned and ready to be mountederv:

had to screw her in place, to keep the boat from falling over while the GS cured on the pins. banshee is doing a fine job in hiding the pin methinks.

u can see my feeble attempts on OSL from the head on the prow(banshee arm/head) and the lantern on deck
I always try and add at least 1 rising skelleton on every large base

meet Rose,the banshee she once fell of a giant steamer called titanic, no gold on her to pay the fair of passing, so now she suffers in eternety, getting crushed under the hull over and over again, scream(ing) for her (un)life...
