Just a place to share my work. I'm also hoping this will animate me to paint more frequently. The Picture quality is sadly kind of sad, fell free to say so.

My Spirit Hosts

Even if you cant really see it i was playing around a bit with glow effects and lighting.

RE: MF Paintlog

looks good :)

great way to save some money. pretty much anything can be painted white/gray and be called a spirit host, but this is a very good example.

RE: MF Paintlog

Thanks a bunch. I had lots of parts left over from the Hexwraith/Black knight sprue. And that mixed with some Skeleton parts and a few zombie parts and Viola. The dresses were originally from some Dark Elves and after removing the feet they look suitably ghosty.

RE: MF Paintlog

They look great! A little dark maybe, but that's probably just me having prejudice against ghosts ;) It'll be interesting to see what else you come up with.

RE: MF Paintlog

I am currently working on a familiar type thing for my Necromancer (Originally a wood elf) and I'm trying to build my own wraith out of Zombie skeleton and ghoul parts. Will get pictures up as soon as i can of my progress along with some photos of my Finished Vampiress

RE: MF Paintlog

First off heres my Vampiress. Sadly i completely missed the Golden Bat competition otherwise this would have been my entry. This was the Third Model that I finished Painting for my VC Army and ill be keeping the color scheme. Or at least making sure to use lots of red green and violet/purple

RE: MF Paintlog

Your spirit hosts are beautiful, and the wraith is spectacular!!
I don't know how I feel about his large zombie(?) hands though, they seem disproportionate, but at the same time they give a menacing look to him, which I also dig :)

Quick question before I subscribe (to see more green stuff works :konrad: ) :
How do you get such good, flowing robes? I was thinking of giving my crypt horrors robed legs similar to the GW grave guard, since the kit only has enough bits to make vargheist/crypt horror upper halves, but only one can have legs and a torso.

RE: MF Paintlog

It was a bit of a quick botch up. Im not very pleased with the hands either. Ill probably use arms from the hexwraith sprue for my next one.

But im glad you like it. The robes look great but are a bit flimsy, ive yet to paint them and that can always be a bit difficult. Basically what I do is just flatten the green stuff into a sheet and then drape it over the model like you would a real piece of fabric. I then use my modeling tools to stretch and fray the ends or press them into form, it can be tricky to get right and might need two or three layers like the Wraith for instance. It took a total of 3 Layers over the various parts of his body to get it to a point where i could say i was satisfied with the flow of the robes and the fullness. I can take some pictures the next time a make a similar model if it helps? For a finishing touch

But be warned, like i said its a bit flimsy. So dropping or Squeezing the model too much is a big No No.

RE: MF Paintlog

I am very taken with the Wraith, I have also been toying with scratch building some wraiths and that gives me all kinds of ideas. The familiar is just golden though - I love the idea of a hovering book! It reminds me of a story in the previous edition of the army book where Vlad is casting spells from the top of Drakenhof, and the books hovering in front of him through force of will.

I like the colours on the countess too - have you decided on her name and background yet?

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed and had to comment - that wraith looks like he is standing above a small chaos star! It's the frozen symbol on the mat below his base... sorry! For a moment I thought the blue mat was part of some terrain and I was about to ask what it was! I think I need new glasses

RE: MF Paintlog

Uggghhh So simple! haha how did I not think of that :swear:
I too would like to see a step by step, that would be awesome.
Lastly, here is my idea to firm up his robes. Expanding spray foam...? :) (Like the kind you get at hardware stores to seal gaps around your windows) OR brown stuff...? (I hear it dries much harder than green stuff)

RE: MF Paintlog

Finally back in the crypts and working again. The paintbrush is still resting but i had a few ideas for Unit fillers. Specifically Zombie unit fillers. One was inspired by one of the Golden Bat Entrants. The other is a botch job that could be used as a Corpse Cart if i felt like it.

The Last one is a attempt at making a stitched together robe. Took some time to get it right but im pretty pleased with the results. I have dubbed this Necromancer Ghoul guy Edmund B. Three guesses who he's named after. The Oger is a hint if your struggling with an answer.
