Models from other armies that fit with VC

I've found that a few of the Dark Eldar models from the 40k range would sit nicely in amongst the Vampire Counts hordes of beasties. In particular, the Dark Eldar Clawed Fiend and the Ur-Ghul have caught my eye. I think they are pretty awesome and would look really good sitting in amongst some ghouls or prowling around on their own as a Varghulf.

What do you all think? Do they fit? And are there any other models that you think could slot in?

I do think the ur-ghul would make a good strigoi vampire or crypt ghast. The crow thingies the Dark Eldar have would make good bat swarms too, and the dark eldar archon has been made into a decent vampire. I was for a while planning on converting Lelith into a vampiress.

Yeah, I can see Lelith leading an army. What do you think of the Clawed Fiend? I think his big bat-like ears are very cool and the sparing use of red makes for a nice connection to a Vampire General, particularly one of the Von Carsteins with their red armour.

I think he would probably fit well in a necrarch or strigoi/ghoul heavy army, if painted in darker/more undead colours. (with the red face instead painted as an exposed skull)

I have a few vampires that have come from the dark eldar range, I am using the a converted succubus as a vampire, I have kitbashed the wyches to make my vampire lord (There is pics in my very rarely updated army log) and I have a flying leilith vampire in the pipeline. I think the clawed fiend would be best used as a unit filler given he doesnt really size up with the vargulf and is far too big to be a character. I have also made some wraiths out of mandrakes, I believe there are also photos of that

Not sure what wracks could serve as in a VC army. They're awesome models though, so if anyone could pull it off, I'd love to see it.

My personal favorite model out there is the Dark Eldar 'Archon.' I'm currently using one as my Vampire lord, and he looks SICK. No converting or kitbashing required! Just paint him up like a Vamp and there you go.

I think that Wracks would need a fair bit of conversion to make them fit. And I'm not sure what you could use them for either.

I like the idea of painting the Clawed Fiend's face to look like exposed skull though. Shame his size means he would be too big for a general. I think he could make a great bestial general, one that has really let the animal inside take over, but has not yet let go of all it's mental faculties.

I am considering taking a bunch of converted wracks as my spirit hosts, as they look quite menacing and vengeful, however it will be quite a task for be to carve off all of those futuristic parts and mutations so i guess i will just end up with flaggelants like everyone else

I just bought 20 spider goblin cavalry from ebay, without the riders, to use as proxy Dire Wolves. With a little green stuff, they will be a mainstay in my Halloween themed force.

I think being finecast, you should go for the wrack conversion, its not difficult to cut finecast. (If it was metal I would definatly warn you off)

I know finecast is easy to work with, my wraiths are made from mandrakes after all but it is the sheer quantity of bits that i would have to cut off, then re-detail. I think it would be all too much effort. I might kitbash one pack with some flaggelants just to make a more sinister unit.

Thinking of using some Plastic Morgul Knights from the LotR range as Black Knights. They look really good, have a great feel to them, and are realistically proportioned, so they'll fit in well with my Mantic undead. I like the Mantic ones a whole bunch, but these are quite nice. I won't be paying for me, as luckily my GW store will take in unopened boxes of miniatures as a trade in on new items, so I will just drop off a whole bunch of stuff I never used and get two boxes of those, a Shadowlord, a Winged Nazgul (to use as a Terrorgheist) and whatever else I need.

I've been looking at several pieces from the LotR range, but I've not seen any of the figures out of the box. Are they scaled properly to be usable?

I hadn't really looked at the LOTR range, but now that you guys mention it Sauron The Necromancer would make a great.... well, necromancer. Same goes for Khamul the Easterling.

The army of the dead would make great zombies or skeletons and the fell-beast could make a nice alternative to the zombie dragon/terrorgheist should anyone not be a fan of the new model.

Old Empire plastic state knights, painted black. Easy to replace some head for a skull, or have one take his head under the arm instead of a shield. I like that vintage look, reminds me of the Live Evil cover:

For my vampire lord on foot I use an old Chaos Sorcerer with bone armour - I cut off the head and replaced it with Zacharias' head, chopped off the hand at the wrist and turned it palm up so it looks like he stands there like the grim reaper, beckoning 'come to me'.
He's really a tall figure, unlike GW's old vampire models, and fit the role perfect.

Ironically, GW's Sigvald the Magnificent will make a perfect vampire, more to my taste than their current range of Chaos Necrarch vampires:

He's got the evil look down, just needs a proper undead paint job.

Good point lynks. I hadn't even considered how big the model was. There really isn't much scale given on the GW website.

I'm not a big fan of the LOTR range, just something about it doesn't appeal to me.

When it comes to alternate minis for the VC, I feel that the mordheim range is fantastic. It has some great alternate vampires (the mordheim vampires, the countess, the beast hunter, the freelance knight, the list goes on)
It also has some good zombies (The zombies that come in the undead warband, the restless mob)
and of course a great black coach alternative (the stage coach)

I believe them to be. Thus far the Army of the Dead I am using as Spirit Hosts (check Invocation #6 for a brilliant method of painting them) is perfectly scaled to do so, I don't see why the Morgul Knights or Winged Nazgul should be any different to be honest.

If you want a large number of them, see if you can get your hands on the metal ones. 2 blisters of them (both of the different kinds), a King of the Dead and a Banner bearer will net you 30 guys, enough for 10 stands of Spirit Hosts if you want a lot (and I would like to have this many, even if it's just for show).

You can also use Ringwraiths as Cairn Wraiths for your troops, and I am looking to use the Shadow Lord mounted for a Wight King, and on foot as the same.

Black Numenoreans can also re-purposed to do this as well.

All in all, it depends on what you're trying to do. Mantic miniatures are realistically scaled, so using realistically scaled LotR miniatures next to them should prove no problem. The Wingeg Nazgul can have it's base magnetised so you can put it on the base which came with the miniature to use for LotR, and as a Terrorgheist in Warhammer. The good thing about the flying base is that it allows a multitude of posing possibilities, so you could easily have it swooping in to screech and terrify opposing units.

I was considering Ringwraiths as Cairn Wraiths, and I liked the Riders of the Dead as possible Black Knights (Or just for awesome mounts, if the rider is separate. Knowing my luck, they aren't)

I've seen some really good looking vampires modelled from the Dark Elf Corsairs kit. Being plastic they're really easy to kit-bash with VC sets. Also Rakham has a lot of great minis that can be used as vampires or necros.

Just got back with my new guys. I checked out the Terrorgheist in person, and I have to admit it looks a lot better than the shots in WD. The Winged Nazgul miniature might look a fair bit dwarfed on the size of base they want you to place it on if you wanted to proxy it as a Terrorgeist. So I bit the bullet and got the Warhammer model instead. It doesn't bother me at all, as I can convert it to get it to look just how I want anyway.

As for the Morgul knights to be used as Black knights, they're perfect. Compared against Mantic's undead, they're a match made in heaven. Against other guys, perhaps a little on the small side. Next to my Gamezone Vampire Cavalry they look a little small, but I figure that's because the Vamps are big, heavily armoured, and ride massive destriders. The Black knights are somewhat emaciated, and ride spirit based horses.

In any case, they look fantastic, and I can't wait to put them all together. 6 in a box is a nice feature as well. Now I am just waiting on my Shadow Lord and I should be good. Will be also look at using The Tainted Ringwraith as either a cairn wraith on foot, or a necro on horseback.

Wasn't Rackham's stuff confrontation? I think that range is being resurrected by another company soon.
