Hello, fiends!

Needing some advice on painting the spirits.. Hosts and inside the morghasts. The bones of the morghasts should be a straightforward zandri dust base, Ushabti bone layer, agrax Earthshade, and either Ushabti bone or screaming skull layer (season to taste.. I like a dirtier look personally).

My formula for spirits is where I falter. Currently is a white scar base, biel tan green shade and drybrushing moot green. My spirit hosts came out kinda "slimer" green.
Any advice, fellow night creatures?

I've used a darker scheme for my ethereals (which is most of my army). I dry brush three lightening shades of grey (dawn stone/astronomican/50:50 astronomican:white) and finally pure white. Each successive drybrush is used on a progressively smaller area, focused on a focal point - usually the face and weapons. The whole lot gets a caliban green wash, and the job's done.

I'll post pics hopefully later this evening so you can see the results.

All the best

I can pretty much echo what @Martin15 said. It is a very popular way to paint ethereals, first greyscale with white focused more prominent areas and after that a green wash. I think the first one to think of it here on this site was @SethDrallitoc. He made a pretty nice tutorial too, here in his plog.

Got a few pictures taken this evening showing this method:

First up, some of the new Games Workshop spirit hosts...

Next a unit of Mantic Miniatures skeletons...

And finally a unit of Games Workshop's Executioners/Black Guard kit which I'm planning on using as Grave Guard...

They look really good Count Orlack. Much more akin to the current GW-painted spirits.

They're very bright; were they really from a black undercoat? With a very dark green wash? I did mine over black because there's some part of me that insists on painting 'evil' armies over a black undercoat.

Walmart flat white spray paint base, biel-tan green shade, moot green dry brush, very light white scar dry brush... although on my Morghasts spirits I went grey primer, Celestra gray, dry brush ulthuan grey, dry brush white scar, then a biel-tan green shade over it all and got IMO a more ghostly look.
