The other side would look a bit better with some tufts, but less and more scraggy if possible.

It's looking pretty good Forlorn, the tufts solve the only thing I wasn't really fond of which is the lack of height. Keep up the good work!

I hadn't thought of that! I like that idea quite a bit, less and scraggy. Brilliant!

The grass really is nice touch. How do you get the grass to stand up like that? When I use static grass, it always seems to lay about all willy nilly.

How do I get it to stand up like that? I cheat of course!

I use:

The tufts come on a clear sheet and look like this:

They come in various shapes and sizes. And are sticky on the bottom.

When I peel them off the plastic film I always apply super glue before then applying them to the base. I then use a toothpick to press them into place so I don't flatten them down. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

I didn't realise before just how cool that model is

You might want to remove the nurgle symbol on his chest, if you care about stuff like that

I don't. ;)

I shall fluff an explanation! He is a freshly (fresh as a Nurgle Lord can be) fallen Nurlge Lord recently reanimated by a powerful Necromancer! Very scary! And dangerous!

Although he still has the trappings of his former master our newly risen Plague Lord no longer cares for Uncle Nurgle but kept the chest piece as a keep sake. How nice. xD

This is looking sweet. I love the idea of Zombies emerging from the sludge! Did you know you can also drybrush tufts? Give it ago. I regularly add a little bit of Bleached Bone or Rotting flesh to the tips of mine. It just makes them 'pop' a little more. Mix the paint you want and water it down. Then get a normal brush opposed to a dry brush and load it. Wipe the excess off on a tissue but don't dry it like you do when drybrushing. Then really lightly paint the tips. Job done! xD

Can you post a few pics here of your work? I'd love to see what it looks like.

I've found this. It kind of shows it, but more on the moss. I used a lighter green for the grass you see. This was my GB entry last year.

There is also this WIP shot from the Dark Vlad i painted for Malochai.

You can really see the effect of the bleached bone on the tuft.

Finally, a base for my Gamezone Predator.

I will try and get some more but my display cabinet is at my parents and I'm not sure when I'm going to be back down next.

Cheers,

Can you take a shot of that body on the Dark Vlad base? And I really like that look of lightening the grass. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

Unfortunately I can't as the model was painted as a commission. The only photos I took of the body can be found in this thread. It doesn't need much colour, just a natural looking lighter tone lightly applied to the tips.

Small update. Put down a base color on the horse. I'll be washing this pretty heavy once all the light areas and missed spots in the paint are coated to my liking.

Small update. Currently working on my Necromancer and have my base layers on for the horse and robes. The armor will be all rusted using the GW formula from way back when the ogres first came out and their weapons were rusty. The rust formula is a base coat of Dark Flesh, then stipled Vermin Brown, and stipled Blazing Orange.

The horse and robes will be washed. Before I wash the robes I'll be adding on a highlight of a lighter green. Next I'll be painting up the rope bridle and bags.

More to come...

Alrighty..

I have painted the rope bridle..and a couple of the pouches..and washed the horse and the robes with Sepia Wash.

Freshly washed

And dry..I like the effect on the robes..the horse, mane, tail, and pouches will get a Devlan Mud wash next.
