My first painting log!

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Batch paint zombos for your own sanity. I would paint 10 Zeds, then a big model, 10 Zeds, then a character, 10 Zeds then some Command Group models. Kept me motivated in that big painting push for the tournament I went to last summer. Keep up the good work, mate. You're knocking this stuff out fast!

I am trying except I do 5 lmfao my tolerance for core troops is very very low :( my main issue when it comes to painting war hammer (main reason I gave up on orcs and goblins haha)

@Adam_Barrow Good call on how to tackle core troops. I do the same thing, add something cool between batches of 10. Core troops are a pleasure and a pain of any army. You've got so many to do but they look awesome once you finish them. Not to mention the sense of achievement afterwards.

That sense of achievement this time around has really motivated me. I never thought Id' have a mortis engine painted or 30 zombies and just all my other stuff. my 1000 point army looks dope and I could not be happier! once I move on to my 80 skelletons thought we will see what happens. at least they take me a whopping 10 minutes each if that haha. they are all sprayed bone.. so wash brown and paint the weapons and shields and "armor" then wash black done haha.

@Hutobega Well you have a nice and quick painting method in place. I envy you about that as I'm mad about taking time on my stuff and probably care a bit too much than I should about painting skeletons and whatnot. I spend as much time on skeletons as I do bigger and more important things :smash:

I used to so I completely understand. At first 5 zombies took me like a week haha and now I'm working on doing ten in 2-3 days =P once a sceme is down it does make it easier too and trying to keep it simple but clean enough to look good, thats the hard part.

Oh the feeling of having all those core bones and zombies finished was great :D and then, what idiot bought a large unpainted tomb kings army..? I wish you all the motivation you can get. What was helping me, was having a movie running next to the painting table with undead theme. Like Army of darkness (how often did I reference to it in this forum already?) , classic zombie stuff (dawn of the dead - the originial, return of the living dead, such stuff) and so on. And whisky. Whisky helps a lot.

Whisky hahahah bourbon for me close enough =PI usually have random netflix going on since i paint at my computer desk it helps big time for me.

10 zombies.. to round out my unit to 50 done zombies give me a few days pics will be posted and i finished my Mortis Engine necro I'll post that later!

Small Update!
20150422_174957.webp Frontal with the Necro!
20150422_175009.webp Close up, pretty simple nothing special, he adds my army color to the Mortis Engine
20150422_175235.webp Next project, Krell, Army standard and starting my Grave guard. half converted half new models I hope they look good together Pics later.

I NEED OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!! 20150422_193048.webp
First. Standard Dark metal with sharpened edge
Second. Kind of Ghostly metal? It's the same as the first but with a green wash makes it etherealish right?
Third. Paint scheme of all my ghosts but not sure if it works well with only weapon. I figured since grave guard all have killing blow special weapons I'd make them ghostly hmmm I'll let you guys decide! lol

@Hutobega Nice job on your ME, the Necromancer's robes actually look cool. I think with your wight blades the first looks a little too plain. The second might look better with some white or silver edge highlighting and the third looks pretty cool from the angle shown in your picture.

The lighting didn't help. the edge is way more highlighted than it looks but thats okay. It's dark metal with black wash then the edge is a lighter metal. I'm kinda going for the second but need to buy a super light metal to make the edge stand out more! It will give it the pop that the third blade has. I just didn't like the look of the third as much unless I try way harder at blending. hmm maybe I'll try a few other options tonight for you guys to look at.

P.S. you guys are awesome for motivation and support :)

THIS IS A TEST!? So it's hard to see but the purple plume... I'm using purple as my secondary color to RED obviously.
20150423_201316.webp 20150423_201346.webp 20150423_201401.webp I have a think for using Nuln oil on my reds It's grimey and I like it haha Does it work for my grave guard!?
Sorry if the lighting is weird. So I need to go back and do some highlighting of the banner, armor, and cloth with the original colors to give it a little more depth and the hair I have a lighter purple for the very outside strands. I'll post update tomorrow.

@Hutobega The purple and red go together quite well but I think I'd go for a dirtier/more worn looking purple if I were you. If you're interested, I painted my squig tongues and gums like this:

Basecoat Daemonette Hide / Layer Warpfiend Grey / Wash Nuln Oil 1:1 Druchii Violet / Highlight Warpfiend Grey. (You can see this in my 'Farmer's Greenskins' Thread if you like).

It creates a dirtier colour, which I think would suit your dead dude risen from the grave to kill anyone his master commands him too.

As for the wash on the red, it looks good and dirty. I prefer using Reikland or Agrax for dirty reds but I think yours will look cool after a highlight of Wazdakka Red or something.

Just a few ideas

I um got bored...and did something with my banner for my grave guard (Banner of the "barrows") lol
20150425_213033.webp I got the idea from the "Show us your standard" thread and well heres my take on it. It's a real banner with a portal of ghosts coming out of it...Snipped off the old painted standard and just redid a new one so i have both standards now haha

I used skulls from the new skeleton sets and the arms are dryads from wood elves =P
