Hey guys and Ghouls....sorry lol

I have been out of the fantasy loop for a few years and have yet to play a game in this edition. I used to play vampire counts but I sold my army thinking I would never play again....well I was wrong, the models are just too cool. As I have not played in this edition I don't really know how to build units and what not but I have a firm grasp of good combos and such. My friends all still play and I am sure they can help me out as well.

The problem I am having is that I absolutely love all the models. I will probably eventually do many themes such as Strigio and the others. I will also most likely end up with all the models. But where do I begin. I am thinking somewhere between 2000-2500 points.

Here is what I was thinking to start out for a first wave:

Vampire hero model
Vampire lord model
Necromancer
Wight lord
Wraith unit
hex wraiths
100 skellies
200 zombies (6 boxes of zombies and 8 boxes of empire soldiers aprox)
2 boxes of dire wolves
Some bat swarms
Black coach
Mortis engine
Terrorghiest

Of course I will expand upon this but I am just trying to get a good start here and assembling this and what not will take some time anyhow.

Hey BTW off topic a bit, when are we getting new bat swarms and fell bats?! Not that we have the right to complain I mean VC's got all new models last update and even more this time and high elves didn't get much of anything the first time around lol. But it would be nice seeing as everything else is new minus the zombies.

No idea. Honestly, I'd get the Lord of the Rings bat swarms instead of the warhammer ones. They have chorus line issues, but they're much better models.

Your shopping list looks good, but you're a bit lacking defensive anvil units that can grind it out in close combat without giving up too much combat res. Since you're pretty heavy on rare already, I'd look at special for this. Both Crypt Horrors and Grave Guard are excellent options here. IMO you can't go wrong with either. Alternatively, you could field those wraiths as heroes, and put them in the front rank of a unit of skeletons or zombies to give you an invincible ethereal wall backed up by the static res of a core block infantry unit.

i think there is still a place for ghouls, and I don't think you will need 200 zombies, esp if you convert rising ones/ unit fillers.

I also think grave guard are still good, and vargheists are probably in there too.

wolves are only worth it if your going all cavalry, I would however get unit of hexwraiths.

Bats should be converted from ghoul bodies and gargoyle wings (tyranid plastic kit)

Nice thanks guys. I intend to collect the entire line. We really need new bat models lol. Yeah I suppose 200 zombies is excessive. I'll start small and add on as I see fit. And hex wraiths are in my future for sure. How are black knights nowadays?

Ethereal on our Cav options seem really nice. This of course is coming from someone who has yet to play this edition.

Just remember that black knights are not ethereal, they just move like ethereals, so they are still vulnerable to the things non ethereals are.
However, they get a 2+ armour save with barding, and can be healed pretty well with IoN.

Yeah I know. I wish everything mounted with nightmares was ethereal lol. But I guess that would be pretty insane. I picked up some characters to paint today and a few other things for my Mordhiem gang.

box o Zombies
box of ghouls
box of state troops
box of militia
Krell
white lord
Isabella
Vamp lord with giant wing that gets in the way.
Plastic necromancer

It will be a month or so before I actually fund the vampire counts project. Ugh I sure don't want to make movement trays. I remember that fun

I bought the Hexwraiths/black knights. It comes with all the parts to make both models minus the horses.
What I have done is make the hexwraiths and then put the black knights on regular skeletal horses. - tomb kings horses off ebay.

They look pretty cool and more like dead empire knights.

You might want to look into buying a battleforce or two. Zombies, skeles, ghouls, and a corpse cart.
In the BRB page 352?(i think) it has a slightly converted vampire army. Has a corpse cart pulled by 2 dire wolves, and has the empire battlestandard from the general kit mounted where the fire/bell goes. Looks pretty sweet.
I know its the first thing to get cut from most lists when you need the points but its fun to have.

I'm doing a bretonnia themed army. Ghouls will have peasant hats and everything. Although I will have 5 black knights that wondered over from the empire...[/font]

That's actually really cool. Last time I did VC's I used bret models for my zombies. This time I am going with empire guys. It makes them look that much cooler.
