Hi folks, new to the forums despite being my local haunt (pun intended) for my updated VC tactica!

I'm a painter, it's the reason I chose VC as my army, and I hope you like my work :)

Please also check out my YouTube channel where I do various videos on how I paint my minis, VC are heavily featured :)

Don't forget to check out the end of part 3 for a really cool blood technique (it's not my technique, but it's awesome nonetheless!)

Currently working on a unit of the new Black Knights, can't wait to get started on them :)

Cheers!

Hi welcome to CN!
That's a great looking army, really charismatic.

By the way, is your username perhaps based on public enemy? :)

Thanks! And no sorry to dissapoint, I've had it for years and it's simply the movie reference ^^

oh wow, this army looks fantastic :D especially love the work on the zombie dragon, and having the rider on the base is cool, i expect it makes it a lot easier when the dragon gets killed too :P heh

I love this army. The paint job and the zombies and the hero and everything. Speaking of which, what model are you using for the Lord? I know I've seen him somewhere before.

Please post more pics, this looks great.

Yes, one of them was for me. I absolutely love the paint job you gave the figure though; fits it perfectly! As for the rest of your army ... Wow, is all I can say. It's all done really, really, really well!

Thank you all for your kind comments! :)

EXACTLY! lol, yeah I also didn't really like the look of the lord that came with the kit and the ghoul king wouldn't fit without some serious makeover work, which I'm simply not good at!

The model he is using is Dark Vlad, Human Hunter from Enigma Miniatures

Yep that's right, I love him! I'm going for a Wight themed army next so I'm buying another to make him all glowy :)

I see more and more people using airbrushes, i feel jealous, need to get one too

I do allot of work with airbrushes that I'm going to feature in more videos, doing a bunch of tutorials from very basic work to detail so hopefully that might tempt you to get one :) Mine was only £90 and came with 2 airbrushes, one grav feed and one suction feed, so it's well worth it :) and the compressor is a beast. EBAY! :)

I'm actually going to open up my own studio/gaming cenre here in Scotland to do more videos and commission work, and it was all inspired by the airbrush I bought, now I want a bigger one :vampire3:

I like your take on the zombie dragon. Very interesting colours.

Thanks means allot :) I went for that scheme because I wanted it to look like the Dragon was crafted out of "bits of zombie" and so it fitted with my theme, was a complete experiment and I was happy with how it came out, glad you like it :)

Lovingggg thus zombies the mantic ones specially ^^

They were a godsend! And inspired the army, I'm gonna buy more, and more, and more as the new book really likes them too :P

I agree with sanai on the zombie dragon. It's got a very "smooth" blend to the whole thing, one of the best ZDs I have seen. As for the Lord, I knew I had seen him somewhere! I remember enigma's stuff now.

Mantic by far has nailed the animated zombie look. I only wish there were a few additional leg & arm choices.

@rebelwithacoz I really appreciate the tutorials! I'd just received delivery of -4- boxes of the mantic zombies when I came across your post.

I had orginally thought to do a white base coat, wash with black, then build up with ogryn flesh adding in blue and green washes but I'll be doing your technique now. I would have never thought to do it the way you did. How on earth did you come up with the colors and techniques? Well done!

I also noticed on some of the close-ups you did a bit of fine blood detailing around the faces. Did you use the same blood mixture for that as well?

Thanks for your comments :) Yes the blood was all done using that magical Tamia Clear Red Mixture, I just used different consistencies with water to get the detailed effect on some of the faces, I also painted a bit on my finger and "dabbed" it on certain parts of some zombies, the texture of my fingerprint made for some cool "rash like" patterns :)

Your technique sounds interesting! I'd be tempted to try it using a brown wash rather than a black, as black can be a very harsh contrast, I always try and maintain a synergy between my pallette and contrasting using complimentary colours or textures. Careful when using black wash as not all shadows are black and it can saturate your colour scheme :) As for the blue and green, that sounds like allot of fun! You could do the exact same as what I did in my technique, but rather than using ogryn flesh AGAIN after the skull white section, throw your blue and green washes on then to make em all rotten and bruised looking, don't overdo the blue tho, be selective and they'll look like bruises!

My technique originally started with a pure white basecoat, but using the spray I thought that bone would be a little more homogenic in relation to my scheme, and went for the "pre blending" idea using a dark flesh contrast to give me all the shadows I wanted before applying the wash. The colours can be easily substituted.

If you want more "Night of the Living Dead" looking zombies try this:

Dark Angels green instead of Dark Flesh
Bone Spray Technique
Ogryn Flesh Wash
Skull White Spray Technique
Thraka Green Wash

With Red Blood and a reddy brown cloth the green would really pop!

Please keep me updated on your Zombies! That goes for everyone, and especially if you try the technique out!

Here is an example of a Cadian figure I did in the prime white then wash in black technique. Then I just layered Gryphonne Sepia for the coat and Ogryn for the face and hands. A fellow over on another forum came up with this and I use it to paint my Cadians. Just wanted to give you an idea of what it looked like.

You aready have by showing me how to paint 120 Zombies really quickly!

I'm in 2 minds at the moment between vampires and Ogres. Tough choices but hey it's all the fun of Warhammer. If I get Zombies I'll post them here!

Very nice army and a nice showcase of what big blocks of Mantic zombies look like. The general is also rather nice indeed, thanks for sharing! 8)

I like the uniform look and style. I'm a fan of Mantic's Zombies and you've done well to paint so many so consistently. Colour me impressed

Hey man I have a question; I've been following your (excellent) youtube tytorials for this and I'm having real difficulty with the spray parts. My spray seems always to 'billow' a bit whcih specles the parts of the model we dont want to hit. This happen no matter how subtle I am on the button, the distance or conditions; I just cant get as focussed a beam of spray as you seem to!

Any help much appreciated. Even with this, they are still coming out looking great!
