I am going with a yellow and purple theme. Problem is i cannot get a method i am happy with for the yellow. So far i just add a brown wash. I am wanting a dirty muted look, that does not suggest happy full of life. Any thoughts ideas. Here is a picture of one of the units.

Hi,
I have seen your models shown in Show us threads, you really did a great job on them!

On such large surfaces like GG banner, yellow will almost always look a bit too clean unless you do something special with it I afraid. I would try stippling it a bit with brown, or "splashing" again brown or red as blood. By "spalshing" I mean that you take drybrush brush or other sturdy brush, add thinned down color to it, put it close to the banner and run your finger through the brush (for better explanation, I have a photo with description in Gore tutorial - link in my signature).

To tips for shading - if I need to highlight yellow, I mix it with Bleached bone and if I need to darken it, mix in either orange (but that looks quite clean) or brown, perhaps Snakebite leather would work.

Your undercoat looks to be white, if you have a brown or even darker yellow basecoat the whole thing will darken up. Shading is your best bet on the surface you have there. Watered down agrax earthshade in many thin layers pulling towards the recesses.. You can also use seraphim sepia that will also darken the colour considerably.

My main theme for my ogres are yellow feel free to browse my plog for pictures, most feature yellow in some form or another.

Thank you both, reaper and bullhax, for the ideas. I think what i might do is try and tone it down with a earth shade wash. Take out the majority of yellow and leave a sickly yellow moon. Add a purple back ground and silhouette something over the moon. I will try and stay away from the castle tower or tree as i see that a lot, but something to that effect. Hope to make time tonight.

Best thing is to start almost Ochre in the deep recesses then work out, keeping the paint wet and blending as you go so the starkest yellow is then a highlight in the utmost raised areas.
