Neferata novel

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
I don't understand O_O GW's stance in lore is that people can believe in what they want? This is actually a genuine question x) Like I pointed out before I am used to WoW where what Blizzard says, goes. There is no pick and choosing between old and new lore. Their world, their rules, etc!

I also found that the book jumps around too much, but thats not really so much the authors fault as the fact he was writng off a timeline. I found the scenes with Khalida jarring. One second she is an adoring girl, the next duels Neferata to the death, and it feels off

This many times over -.- That was something we can agree on xD

Oh well! Will see how the next two books will be.

I beleive so, its something i've heard around here a few times, and even if not i'll do it anyway. I'm a big boy now. :P

I'm used to series with soild canon and lore too, but i've never foudn one that was so careless in general with its own lore. As i've noted before, if GW/BL can't show its canon respect, then neither can I.

We will so always disagree on those books O_O We should just keep discussing/arguing over it to get posts!

I jest, jest ^^ Also I forgot to say before I did quite like Arkham as well. Poor guy :(

He's fine. He attacked Altdorf fairly 'recently' according to the Empire army books timeline. Stole the Liber Mortis.

Yes but he still got too much of buttwhiping from Nagash before that! At least he has a few neat moments in Neferata.

Cool. :) I'll look forwards to those. Like I say, he rapidly came to be one of my favorite characters.

It's not much mind you but him being a Liche who woops vampire ass for a bit is <3

Aha, thats why the scenes with Khalida feel wrong.

"Khalida was killed by her cousin Neferata, Queen of Lahmia in ritual combat during a great celebratory feast. Nefereta desired the death of Khalida, for the Warrior-Queen had been growing ever more suspicious of her cousin. Khalida was right to be wary, for Neferata had attempted to recreate the Elixer of Life, and in doign so had becoem the first of the Vampires. If Khalida was not silenced, thent he Lahmian's dark secret would be discovered. So it was that Neferata falsely acused Khalida of treason, and the warrior-queen rose to personally defend her honor." -Excerpt ftom the Tomb Kings 8th Edition Army Book

The books basically try to portray Khalida as the nsigator, having 'set a trap' for Neferata, when it was completely the other way around. This would have been more fitting I think, especially if they entirely omitted the false-ringing earlier scene. She also was alive when Nef tried ot give her the Blood Kss, but her faith saved her soul (at the cost of her life), which coudn't happen in the books because of how the whole 'Gods' thing was handled.

However, the 'new' army book for Tomb Kings (May 2011) came out after the Nagash book (Unbroken 2010), so its overwrtten the overwrite so to speak - if you want to see things as a solid canon. Not in all repsects, obviosuly, but in that scene at least.

I see! Thank you!
Though I do believe that even in the book Neferata was acknowledging that Khalida was turning into a threat but her love for her held back the knife that should have been sent to the warrior queens back. It all did also end up in that grand duel that was started by Khalida. But mrh, yes in the Nagash books Neferata clearly did not desire her cousins death at all, she was very attached to her after all.

Also just to warn you a bit, there is more about Khalida in Neferata but it is not as bad as in the Nagash book I think.

Yikes, and they have heavy changed Arkhan's 'backstory' too. Whether for the book or the new codex, no idea, as I onyl own the newest. His entry in the Tomb King army book is super different, to the point its too long to write up the relevent bits. Ah well. I suppose thats GW/BL for you. They change their lore by the year. Literally in this case.

I really think ( or maybe just hope like the naive person I am!) that this is however getting better now.

Most who suffer due to their lore changes are characters who are supposed to be important in the history but never really got their own storys/fully fleshed out background. As more and more time passes by and more GW/BL ordered books appear it should get better.
There will still be changes of course, that is the same in all settings but it should be less twitch worthy.

Has anyone noticed that the Master Vampires are hardly (if at all) mentioned in our Amry Book and yet one of them now has her own book? Also the two articles in WD name drop them and go into as much if not more detail then the AB! What is up with that?

Trueborn ftw.

I'm guessing one is Ushoran because he was cool for a while before he went all monster-man.

Who else? Abhorash would be cool.

Eek i missread that name!
Next book is actually about W'soran *points at your name*
Then last book is mr blood dragon!

Really, I was sure Ushoran would get a book about his excellent kingdom of Strigos that Nefereta screwed up on him.

YAY W'soran!

Neferata did not screw up a thing. The Crown of Nagash did x)
He also got a short story to tell the tale how he took over the kingdom, not sure how much more he will get as I believe the crown destroyed him.

Oh god more fluff changes?

The version I'm aware of is basically:
-Ushoran gets crown
-Ushoran builds an awesome kingdom of Strigos.
-Advances civilisation for the humans and only hunts criminals.
-Things are great so he invites the other Trueborn he can find to join.
-The lulz and ignore him.
-Nefereta has a bitch fit that her little brothers doing so well so she manipulates the human tribes into attacking Strigos using her bitch-fu (admittedly impressive manipulations abilities amongst the primitive humans).
-Armed with superior armour and swords plus having Ushoran's children amongst their ranks they wtfed pwned the humans.
-Riled up Orcs (I think because of Abhorash and his chopping their way through the Orc Tribes) attacked Strigos, they easily break through human lands because the humans are all distracted with their war against Strigos.
-Strigos is under siege, the battle is fairly even up until the Warboss started slaughtering his way to the gates of the city, Ushoran uses his superior strength to tear the greenskin's head right off.
-Shaman blasts Ushoran to dust.
-The forces of Strigos, mortal and immortal alike break.

And that's what made me love Strigoi so much xD

Is the fluff different from that now? I don't really keep up with fantasy fluff updates anymore.

Uhm, well first off the world naturally goes to hell, Nagash little ritual, Nagash being killed, tomb kings going wtf yada yada!
Vampires go their own separate ways.
The Crown of Nagash starts calling out for the vampires, getting them all into one place.
Ushoran gets there first, uses his skillz to take over a human kingdom and a lovely mountain.
More vampires arrive ( all first generation of course ) and pledge themselves to Ushoran. Pretty much all of them got their own 'secret' reasons for it. Neferata for example does not know that Nagash crown is hidden in Ushoran's little mountain but she wants to find out whats going on and pretty much kill him after and take over everything eventually.
A lot of stuff goes on ( I do mean a LOT), the crown is eventually recovered.
Ushoran is the only one stupid enough to wear it. Everyone else realized it's a bad idea.
Ushoran with the crown is able to force Neferata and the other vampires who remain to serve him.
Neferata invades Silver pinnacle under Ushoran's 'orders' but due to the great distance between herself and him the crowns influence is nearly gone ( was her plan of course!)
Neferata takes over pinnacle, slaughters the strigoi/Ushoran's loyal troops and that is it. Naturally Ushoran does not pay too much attention to this because he is busy being mindfucked by the Crown. Neferata believed that he actually presumed that she was still under his control and was ruling the Silver Pinnacle in his name.
The book does not explain how exactly Ushoran found his end, though it is hinted Neferata had a hand to play in it. I think it was also said that W'soran was the one who took the crown and fled after everything fell apart ( no, he did not put it on ).
...
OR wait, I think they actually said it was the orcs that ate up Ushoran in the end. Hm need to go over the book in a bit. Not today, today I am too sleep depraved!

Edit: Also Ushoran was a fairly asshole of a leader. Don't get me wrong, he did advance civilization but he still had his serious moments of cruelty. Neferata is a heartless thing but she does not needlessly harm mortals for example.

Aww man, why do they changes things

*Grouchy old man complains about change*

I liked the original.
Ushoran always bullied by his sister finally gets out of her shadow and proves he is awesome at something.

Ah well, at least we're getting fleshed out stories about the Trueborn now.

Uhm that is what he does? Ushoran after all successfully takes over the human kingdom, he outplays Neferata at her own spy game and even gets the crown. He just overestimated himself or underestimated just how bad Nagash's toys are.

Yea but you've got to be pretty retarded to put on the crown.

Saying that maybe he did anyway and the old fluff was just so vague we never knew.

Also the vampires never responded to his calls originally but that might actually be an improvement. :)

Until the very end Neferata was more then willing to put on the crown. She even was fighting to get it for herself.
The call of that thing is just -that- powerful. A few times it was even pointed out that mr blood dragon who let's be honest is a honor filled sword wielding god could not fully resist it. He even went on to fight orcs as far, far away as possible to keep away from it's influence.

So don't take it as a sign of weakness, I just painted him a bit worse there then he was because...Stigoi suck! O_O

That is the correct "Fluff"
In the new version Neferata helps forge the Human Dwarf Alliance, only flees her own kingdom at the end of the battle not running mid battle as she did in prior lore which Peeved off Aborash and Shallya is a minor hedge god who Neferata turned into the Goddess of Healing and Mercy for her own agents to work in and control so as to have diplomats and manipulators pass between boarders without issue.

There is a fair bit of head scratching reading this book to be honest.
