Netherlands Beware - Voltaire is coming!

Greetings one and all

On Thursday I'm off to Amsterdam for a few days. If anyone is unfortunate enough to actually see me there, beware, I may well bite.

Oeh oeh, don't only go to Amsterdam, it's a tourist trap
You should try and go to Utrecht for at least a day (best is on thursday) It's a very nice student city with great bars and clubs. Tivoli on thursday (it's a concert hall with on thursdays a disco) is nice and free if you're a student (can be any kind of student, don't even need to be Dutch) And it's the only city where you can walk and sit directly next to the moats (you can even touch the water and be below the normal street. It's very nice)

ow, please, don't drive. Especially not around Amsterdam. It's a nightmare, especially during rush hours. You're far better of by train and bus, or even bike. You know you can buy a cheap bike for 10 euro's around every street corner there, right

Amsterdam isn't so bad, I lived there for a while. You've just got to know where you are going. They've got some really cool gaming stores there and other...erm interesting ones.

Still, it's a tourist trap Just saying don't stay there the whole time. Besides, it's not the only place with interesting shops

If so, Amsterdam is the place to be. In other cases, any other Dutch dity (especially Breda) is fine.

Oh, and driving really isn't very good, get a bike (practically free if you buy it from a junk) or use public transport, don't drive. You'll only get stuck into traffic jams.

In fact, Dutch roads really are just one big traffic jam.

The guy's from the UK. If he's ever driven around Oxford or London, he'll have no problems coping with the Dutch drivers.

Nope there's one in Rotterdam, The Hague(Den Haag) and one in Haarlem(?). Not sure about the last one but the other two are definitely there or I need better medication.

I have to agree with Redna Xela. Amsterdam is a fun and amusing city. Definitly one that you must visit at least once in your live.
It has the best weed, lots of hookers (most of them are damn ugly, but they don't realize that, that makes them funny) and millions of Japanese tourists.

However, If you want a nice beer in a nice city, I also suggest Utrecht. Heck, maybe I can meet you there...

For transport take a train or bus. It works perfect and cost you just a few euro's (10 I believe between Amsterdam and Utrecht ).

Well, no one wants to go to Rotterdam (it's the ugliest city in the Netherlands, but that's just me) and The Hague, well, can be nice but it's full with politicians

And about Amsterdam having the best weed, I seriously doubt it. Sure, there are a lot of coffeeshops, but most of the time it's filled with tourists, and everyone knows the quality in tourist places isn't the best (they don't know what good and bad weed/hasj is )

*stares out his window* It's not that bad...:O I've seen much uglier cities in this tiny country.

And yeah the quality of of weed in Amsterdam is plain horrible!

I understand why tourists go to Holland, but if you want a cool and different day-trip try Venice. I did a Ryan-air jobby: I flew there in the morning and returned at night. Just book in advance and you can get the £1 flights, and its well worth it. Tons of culture, real pizza and funky places to drink coffee. Not eco-friendly, but a superday out that will earn you lots of bedtime-points if you take your better-half.

It's true, I know Breda has some very good weed places, but I don't know about the other cities.
