so whats everyones take on the new Battalion box just released?

20skeletons
20 ghouls
10 dire wolves
corpse cart

$140 CDN (me)
$115 USD
70 Pounds
$180 Ausi dollars

The Canadian and Ausi prices are outrageous. But luckily for me(canadian) its very simple for me to purchase online from the states. CDN and USD are even. Stupid GW 22% more is a bit excessive.
I do feel sorry for you Ausi people. How does GW make any money in Australia?

I can't remember what was in the original battalion. 20 skels, 10 ghouls, and a corpse cart? what else....
20 zombies!!!
I remember the price was $100 USD.

So what does everyone think? is it a good deal?
Also since they dropped zombies this might hint at new zombies models in the 'semi'- near future. (Probaby when their current stock finally runs dry, maybe a year or two).

I happy with the most of it i likes haveing the hounds but i don't see why they want to push the ghouls so much. I mean cool 2 attacks and poison but unless im running a ghouls only list i will be using my bro skeletons. also why don't we get zombies that why i play vampires the feel when you have hordes of shambling undead creatures. So i would say like a 7/10 for me man.

I wont be buying it. I don't need more than the one Corpse Cart that I've already got, same goes for the ten Dire Wolves. The Skeletons are good, as I love the current models, and a few more Ghouls may come in handy. But all up, its a little underwhelming.

What I really don't like about this battalion box is that you can't build a respectable army with multiple purchases of it, as you'd have far to many Corpse Carts and Dire Wolves. The Beastmen Battalion Box is tremendous, as you can build a brilliant core of an army with just a few boxes.

If GW are going to release new zombies at some point, they really should have included them in the new Box.

What I would have loved to see in the new box would have been 20 Skeletons, 20 Zombies, 5 Black Knight/Hexwraiths, 3 Vargheist/Crypt Horrors. I would have bought loads of that Battalion Box.

GW never seems to get it right with Battalion boxes.

This box is, in my opinion, a waste of time, and I completely agree in regards to the pricing. US and Canadian dollars are par, GW is now GW NORTH AMERICA (and has been for a few years) and NOT GW Canada/GW USA, so why the two prices are completely beyond me. "North American Free Trade Agreement" my left foot!

Dire wolves, ghouls, skeletons & corpse carts are all OLD MODELS. Everyone who has played VC before will have them, and those newly getting into the army would undoubtedly go either skin OR bone, but not both. Why include skellies AND ghouls? My Strigoi list won't have a single skeleton in it (which leaves me with two full units of 20 battle-ready painted & based skeletons sitting on my shelf) but will have OODLES of ghouls, zombies and crypt horrors...

The box is completely underwhelming, and a certain "no-go" for me. If they were to release the Spearhead boxes again, or at least include SOME new models in their battalion boxes instead of all of the prior releases, I'd be a lot more interested in giving them my hard-earned money.

My 2cents,
Brahm

Looks like the box is orientated towards new players(like all?), giving you a nice start for an army. Add a box of zombies and you can fill up your core at a 2K game. Every one who was playing already would only look at new releases anyway, at least I am.

The point of the Battalion box being mainly for new players is valid, but still I'd never want to get more than two of those for just about any reasonable sized game. Even the second one is already hard to justify as I just don't need 2 corpse cars and 20 Wolves makes for lots of deployment drops / redirectors.

All in all a big disappointment as I need heaps of new core models to get my army ready for larger scale games now that skellies are so cheap. Originally I planned to get myself 2-3 of the new battallion and be sorted but as it stands now I'll skip that box and go for individual boxes, which will be more expensive on a per model basis but at least get me what I want... also looking into Mantic for Zombies, but as I play at a GW store frequently and don't have many alternatives around... well, guess my army will grow even more slowly.

Didn't you get more in the older ones? Seems very little for the price and a including a special unit (graveguard?) would have been good.

It's understandable the GW might be targeting new players with the Battalion Boxes, but that would seem a little short sighted too. Why not make the box desirable to both new players just starting a VC army, AND to players who have an already established VC army? I'm sure new players would love a box containing 20 Skeletons, 20 Zombies, 5 Black Knights/Hexwraiths, and 3 Vargheists/Crypt Horror's just as much as an established player.

I believe GW's thinking would be along the lines of 'People wont buy the new boxed stuff as much if it was also contained in the battalion box'. I can kinda see the logic in this, but it still would have been nice to see something more exciting in the Battalion Box.

Mat.

I just read the GW 'whats new' section....or whatever they call it. They talked about the Battalion box.
Apparenlty its a full 700pt army right out of the box!

For those of us who already have armies the box isn't so great but for those just starting its a good deal.

There are no zombies but those were 20 year old models(so I heard). This battleforce is gonna be around for 5-10 years.
For new players the battalion is a great start. The old batalion's limitation was that no one would really take more than 2 corpse carts ever(unless you having fun) so you'd only buy a max of two battalions. The new batalion, who has more than 20 dire wolves? I bought 20 off ebay just before this set came out, otherwise the batalion would be on my 'right away' list.

On the bright side at least new players can use 2 dire wolves to pull the corpse cart. And for those who like to convert, the corpse cart is decent for bitz. Its alos a cool looking unit filler for zombies in friendly games.

I think I'll eventually get one down the road. I need more skelles and ghouls, I do want a second corpse cart, and I can use some dire wovles in some awesome unit fillers.

I was going to mention that the addition of 20 ghouls in place of zombies make the box a good 140 points more.

but I'm sure black knights/hex wraiths would be more than the 80/90 points the dire wolves are!

700 points? I think that is seriously pushing it!

It is annoying though, the grave guard are just 1 point more than a ghoul, and they can't rise above starting strength anymore, makes them tough to choose!

I would have like GW to put out a themed battalion, one with Skeletons, Grave Guard and Black Knights, or one with Zombies, Dire Wolves and Corpse Carts, or one with Ghouls and Crypt Horrors or even all 3.

Now that being said, the new battalion does contain zombies, you can use the many extra Crypt Ghoul arms to convert zombies...all you have to do is get some extra bases and model them to look like there are hands rising out of the ground. I have done this and it is really fun.

A Battalion deal instead?

Spend £70 on core units from one army (20 x skellis = 31, 20 x ghouls = 31 10 dire wolves = 15.50) and get up to 25 quid off?

So this lot would be £70 7.50 off, add hexwraits at 18.50 and it is £71 add the corpse cart and it's still £70.

But this way you could change ghouls for zombies, dire wovles for more skellies etc...

I kinda worked this out on the individual prices: 31+31+15.50+16.50 = £94...

Never see anything like this happening but I can dream..

New batallion is a joke - less models, higher price. That's seem to be business model for GW - less value for more $.

It's almost as good of a deal as the two player battle box that Privateer press puts out....oh wait it's not...none of their boxes are.

It's an ok buy if you are using all of that stuff. I for one was not going to use ghouls but now that I am going to have 40 of them I am thinking of making a few different lists using them. I am disappointed that the zombies, which are now useful, are taken out of the box and replaced with dire wolves. Oh well.

Speaking as a new player, i have to say the box isn't very good. Core troops are all good and well, but I've aleady settled on zombies (thanks for that, Mantic) and can get the direwolves by themselves if I want them later. As for the corpse cart, I think they're kidding themselves that it'll be that central as to be included in the battalion; most people run just one if any (from what I've seen).

They missed a trick not throwing in the black knights/ hexwraiths.

Nope, I think they believe they have picked up another £18.50 sale by not including them.... sigh...

Profit vs hobby... profitssssssssssss win...

As always. And that's why I think they don't include the new figs in there; bat-boxes ARE a bit of a deal (emphasis on the "bit" portion of that statement) and WHY for the love of the Queen AND the Easter Bunny would GW give a deal on anything new?

They wouldn't. That's why.
