New space marines!

Okay so, I haven't played 40k in years but just had a look at the assault squad.
£50 for ten models!?! When the old one was £20ish? Looks like I won't be returning to 40k then...

It hasn't even been two years and they are releasing another codex for space marines... I am fed up now, I can't believe my codex is now obsolete after 1 year and 9 months so I have to shell out another £35 for another book. The new models are nice, especially the devastators, but I will certainly not be returning to 40k. It's just ridiculous now. Games Workshop have gone too far. No doubt the next Space Marine codex will be released in 6 months, then 3 months, then daily... :lol:

I agree completely. My final foray into GW's world of pocket emptying is to finally get my money's worth by enjoying building my fave armies, grabbing all the old games I fancy playing, then just not spending. If you have friends not bothered about playing the current rules, you can enjoy this hobby without spending, or at least without laying down more than £20-50 per month.

I'm still working on getting together enough Chaos Space Marines to play in some games. Unfortunately fantasy is'n't nearly as popular in my area. I can almost always find someone to play a 40k game with, but not so much with fantasy. I usually have to play fantasy with the wife's outdated Wood Elves because her Tomb Kings aren't ready to go yet.

I consider myself SO lucky that I was able to build most of my armies when they cost "pocket money" prices. A quick estimate put my Salamanders at nearly 1800 pounds worth of models at todays prices, just for the basic box sets, without the fact that about half of them are heavily converted. And that is all infantry!

That is crazy. I'm thinking about getting out there to pick up a Codex within the next week. I would really like to iron out a decent playable list and stick mostly to that as far as buying models. Costs too much to get everything I want these days.

You know guys, I was so tempted to go for the £100 Imperial Fists Codex... Crazy, and after all the End Times madness. £100 for a book. I'm going to ride the upgrade wave and stick with 6th Edition.

$50 for five specialist or elite models (anything that isn't troops basically) has been the standard for a year or more now.... Unless you live here in Australia, in which case in the past five years or so it has gone up from $50 (we were at the $50 Mark already back in 2010) to $70-$75 ish for the 5 man boxes.

Here in Australia it costs $140 to make a 10 man squad of assault marines. Yes, the kits are better with more options now, but it doesn't justify the price.

I'm just going to paint what I have for the duration of this year. I have enough bare plastic to keep me going all year, two years if you factor in my lack of free time and motivation.

After that, I dunno. I still want some of the FW stuff and I want a Mechanicus army, but I've lost interest in White dwarves and codices for the time being.
