New Vampire Count Army Book

I was wondering, since most of the army books that are coming out in this edition have at least 2 different lists in them....such as the regular orcs and goblins list and the Steppe WAAAGH or whatever it is... do you think the new vampire counts book will come out with an alternative list?...or something like the lists in the back of the current VC book that will be playtested and tournament legal?
Your thoughts?

To be blunt, no.

The new lists have had one thing going for them and that is the ability to adapt the list to suit any theme and I see no reason why our one should be any different.

After the bloodlines got hit with the GW nerf bat I don't espect there will be any variants lists whatsoever.

I'd like to see a pure Necromancer driven army with a Necro Lord as a choice. I realise it's a VC army book but some of us still like the option of a Necro led army.

Retaining the alternative lists from the old book would be nice but I don't think they'll do that.

I don't think we'll get skeletons with things like crossbows/bows/cannons/etc in the army book, which is a shame.

From all the accounts I have heard, based on rumours from reputiable sources, you won't see any Necro's leading armies in the new army book. Necro's are relegated to supporting characters only.

Frankly, IMO that lists weren´t very playable (but they were very fluffy tough) so I think that they are very sacrificable (anyways, I think actual lists are very flexible, even more, if they include all the changes we are discussing about)

The only way you can play the appendix-armies today, is if you can find a willing opponent. Good luck with that.

You could also theme your army yourself! Though that will also depend on the versatility of the new Vampires.

A host of Zombies and Ghosts, led by a deranged Vampire !

Maybe a Lady and her small Vampire court that is guarded by Skeletons only, since everything else is not important enough for their precence!

Or a Hunting pack, Ghouls, Wolves and Bats led by a Stigroi or a simmilar being!

If they do alternative lists I don't think they'll be allowed in tournaments, but it would still be nice. I usually make up my own lists if I feel I need it, though.

I´ve had much fun with the current alternative lists, first the Blood Dragons (2 Units of grave guard, two units of black knight, 1 banshee, 1 Wight Lord and a couple of Vampires and you had a full 2000 pts army), and later with my beloved Necrarch. Had a game in our local GW during the Lustria campaign where I used the Necrarch list, hunting down enemy units with my Zombie Dragon... fun!

Still, we´ve been told that there will be no variants whatsoever anymore - but let´s wait and see how many options you have with the new list, and with each unit! Just because Variants and unique bloodine lists have been removed does not mean that the new list won´t be flexible any more.

Oh boy, am i looking forward to the book! :grin:

I wouldn't like to see that kind of stuff in there. To me, one of the things that make a VC army unique, is it's lack of a shooting phase.(well, Chaos has the same problem, but still). Giving VC bows and other ranged weaponry would just bring them closer to TK.

I agree with you Belial. I really don't want to see any kind of shooting from the VC. If we do get it, then we'll suffer in other areas. One of the biggest reasons I went with VC is that they had no shooting. Shooting is for those pansies in the forest that ride bareback on beautiful unicorns... (implied hint)

After the WE book was released I figured there would be some kinda changes to Force Org. depending on what bloodline you choose (incl. Necromancer-lead armies). But since GW has dropped the bloodlines and Necros seem to be fading into the sidelines, I don't think this'll be an option.

However, we've heard that there's supposed to be a massive list of bloodline powers - something I think will add a lot of variety to lists (hopefully), perhaps there'll even be "powers" that alter Force Org.

You mean, something that would, for an example, allow a Vampire to deploy a unit of Black Knights as Core(Just an example)? That would be interesting, as it would allow for some fluffy armies.

Has anyone noticed a pattern about the army book releases, it seems that the order lately is Lord of the rings, warhammer 40k and then warhammer fantasy. So early next year it should be a LOTR ( corsairs of umbar) than W40K ( orks) followed by WFantasy ( vampire counts)

Looking at the most recent book, the high Elves, there are no specific alternate lists, but the army can be bases/biased towards any of the kingdoms in Ulthuan.

If GW follow the trend of their newest fantasy books (don't know about orcs though), then it would seem that we got quite a few chances of making lists as we do now (ie Strigoi, Blood Dragon and so forth). But still... that would require GW to keep repeating their success... and I've been playing long enough to know that seldom happens...
