So of course when the Vargheists were released I didn't like them. Of course. I want werewolves in my army so bad, I mean, they are awesome. But nooooooo...why on earth no one seems to sell a decent werewolf is beyond me! :frown: So I searched. Saw the Mantic Kickstarter..pondered it..saw the concept art..pondered more..and knew it was a coin toss if they'd be good or not. So I waited. And waited.

Then Bellygrub that git told me about this guy.

Sigh. I had to have him.

So he arrived today. Thought I'd drop a few pics of the bits here before I give him a bath in soapy water to remove the releasing agent from the mold process.

Wouldn't be Warhammer if he didn't come with a rock to stand on..

Img_1581.webp

Or a skull on his belt...belt? I guess to hold his fur up...but I digress.

Img_1571.webp

IMG_1584.webp

One very cool thing is he comes with two left hands. One holding a smote empire fellow

Img_1583.webp

Img_1582.webp

Img_1589.webp

And one open hand. Neat. ;)

And his head

Img_1588.webp

So...I'll be buying the unit off Forge World shortly..as historically speaking we all know that werewolves were in units of three o.o

I'm wondering if that hand holding the empire body could be swapped to this Wolf..hmmm I'm not sure..

Note the rock.

I really like the miniature, and really need to get mine glued and painted =\ Look forward to watching the progress here :D

One piece of advice, do not leave them in a carry case, I did this and it bend all out of shape, easy enough to fix but its very annoying.

Started cleaning and assembly tonight. First thing was to remove the chaos symbol on his chest and the one on the wrist guard. Then I got his arm and leg glued on. The parts fit really well together.

Got his head attached. Again, really fits well together.

Img_1615.webp

Then did a test fit of him on the rock.

That's it for now!

Small update

I grey stuffed the small amount of seams on the model tonight. The parts fit together really really well and the seams were really thin almost non existant. It really made it easy to do.

I am also seriously considering having him stand with his on leg up on something other than a rock. I have top people working on it as I type this. ;)

Img_1752.webp

I also decided to use the open hand and not the hand holding the empire body. I think he looks pretty wicked this way. I'm going to have both hands covered in blood and blood around his mouth and running down his chest. In addition I ordered the 3 figure set from FW and they have been shipped. It's my hope to mount the hand with the body onto the other one for a bit of variety.

I just ordered a pack of these. I'm going to see about having the model standing with one foot on the dead horse.

Can't wait for it to arrive so I can see if this is going to work. It didn't say in the description if these are plastic or metal.. o_o

I was able to prime him white tonight. I am going to black wash over the white and do all the skin Devlan Mud before I paint the fur.

Next I'll be painting the fur with a base of Dark Flesh, then a dry brush of Vermin Brown, and a highlight of Bubonic Brown.

The shredded skin will be washed Ogryn Flesh. I want the skin to be very subtle.

@Forlorn: Looking forward to seeing how he turns out as I am aware of your exceptional painting skills ;) I did my 4 Crypt Wolves in 1 day to get them done in time for the Turning the World to Darkness Challenge and was pretty happy with them (though they will pale in comparison to yours I am sure).

I started mine in the same way, white undercoat, black wash, followed by an ogryn flesh wash and a bunch of drybrushing.

Please post yours here if you could. I'd love to see them. And thank you very much for the kind words!

I figured washing both the skin and the shredded skin would be best for getting the shading I wanted. I really cannot get anywhere close to the shading the washes do. The black wash is key to the success if you're priming white. Seems great minds think alike!

@Forlorn: Sure here is a pic ;) As I said I am no master painter (unfortunately) but I did get them completed in 1 day so am happy with them. And to be honest if I spent 10 days on them they wouldn't look a whole lot better :zombie: The photo is a bit washed out, the colours are a little more distinct in real life (i.e. the fur and skin are different colours, there is some pink/infected looking skin around the scratches you can't really see in this pic.

Did you use Baal Red around the wounds? I really like the paint jobs on the rocks. Well done!

New arrivals!

Received my FW order and my Warlord dead livestock!

The jumbled bag of bits. Meh. o_o

Img_1803.webp

And a nifty, I have no idea what it is, button that came in my FW order.

Img_1802.webp

I am less than please with the dead horse. He is....what's the word I'm looking for..........tiny. :'(

Img_1804.webp

Img_1810.webp

Yet the cow is enormous in comparison. :frown: So I may be using the cow. I stress 'may'

Img_1806.webp

I am seriously considering keeping the barrel. Originally I was just using it for stability but I kinda like the way it looks. I might use the still water from Bellygrub and have it appear that water has spill out. I'll be doing a test run of still water onto inked and drybrushed sand. More to come.

@Forlorn: Yep thats the same way I got my guy. Guess FW isn't one for fancy packaging. But hey, lucky you, you got a bonus fancy button

As for the legs no I didn't need to adjust them. I was able to use the camber of the log to get him standing upright without to much trouble. Just took some careful maneuvering. I think from memory Melle who also posted some Skin Wolves recently bent the legs slightly by heating them in hot water.

@Vaftrudnir: Umm, if you are referring to my wolves then thank you :)
