They just released the long-awaited Vampire Counts FAQ and a number of hotly-debated questions were answered, including this:

Q: If a unit charges into combat and, on the turn it charges, the last
of the enemy unit it is fighting are removed as casualties due to
Daemonic Instability, the Unstable special rule, Cornered Rats or as
a result of a War Machine failing its Break test, does the charging
unit get to make an Overrun move? (p58).
A: No.

I can't remember who the main proponent of this rule interpretation was, but I do recall them having a very persuasive argument. That being said, my local club played the rule differently.

So my question to all of you is: what new tactical possibilities come from this? Units can't just roll through our zombies quite as easily as before. Does this significantly increase the value of Raise Dead?

I think it does make raise dead better, but its still a gamble.

if you cast it you get a minimum of 5 zombies, which would be easy even for chaff to kill to a man

you could get lucky and roll high for 15 total zombies and will have a much better chance of surviving the attacks against most units.

but for the most part you will roll somewhere in the middle which doesn't give much reliability of staying.

now if you summon up the zombies fairly close to one of you casters it can become even better.

say your grave guard or other important unit is in a position to be charged, you could summon up the zombies 5" in front of them and then also cast IoN, now if your opponent is foolish enough to let this pass or you just have a dominating magic phase you will now have a great buffer for your elite unit.

one tactic i have thought about and may need to test and/or think about some more is to take 3 units of zombies and border my entire army with them.

something like, 2 units of 20 zombies, set up 2 wide 10 deep on the flanks of my army to stop any flank charges to my main force, and another unit in a single line in front of my army.

again i haven't thought through all the different scenarios that could come up but at a glance it seems like a cheap and easy way to guarantee that you get your charges.

lol. A lot of people seem to like the conga line these days.

I could see a few more zombie 20 man blocks for muck up the field being better due to this new ruling. Hence I have more zombies on order. :zombie3::zombie:

Sorry for the ignorance but I need a clarification. So if an undead unit crumbles away due to the unstable rule the enemy unit can not over run.

However, if my undead unit crumbles due to the unstable rule can the enemy unit reform or change facing in any way?
