I would do well to remember it? Obadiah asked with a incredulous voice.

In this situation why should I do well remembering that? I have seen my fair share of nobles, and most seem as arrogant as you, if not worse. A man is shaped by his deeds, not by his birth! I will not respect a man who expects it due to birth; respect and trust are earned.

Replying to Antonio he spoke: It was most certainly his intention to put himself above us, he more than admitted it, agreeing that he was "born to lord over others".
Well, above most of us. You noblemen seem to be defending each other happily.

Bastion looked over in thanks to the Norse man who had removed the body.
"That is much appreciated. Pray tell us, what is your name?"

Then he turned to Obadiah. "While Caleb's pride in his pastimes is perceptibly, ahem, prodigious, he does raise a valid point. Mihael's mysterious machination might be a misleading misrepresentation motivated by must, and its mention, mothering measurable misgivings, mayhaps was a mistake.
"However,"
he continued, this time looking at Caleb, "we are all brothers and sisters in chains now. You would do well to remember that."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Bastion laughed. "Not at all! I suggested your sesquipedalian speech was serving to simulate sagacity. But please, let us forget that fulmination."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Obadiah frowned at Gregor for a moment.

Snide remarks are certainly not helpful. Are you trying to start your argument again?

I think he didn't take offence with you for using too many words, rather, in his opinion, for you not saying anything useful or strictly pertinent.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Serethia had seemingly decided not to interrupt the flow of the conversation with her own thoughts, instead her focus had shifted to the food that still rested on a nearby table.

''Heh, some are more equal then others.''

Her words where spoken silently, if anything she was simply mumbling to herself while casually picking some fruit onto a plate before taking a seat, carefully continuing to listen.''

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"We may find ourselves in the same predicament but that does not make us brothers and sisters, let alone equals. There has always been and will always be separation of classes, with some of us simply being of better stock, to use a crude breeding analogy. No matter, now is not the time for politics and revolutionary spirits. As my dear fellow Antonio has suggested, I am simply trying to begin making a case for my humanity."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Bastion heard the woman sitting next to him say something quietly. He chuckled.
"Pigs don't come into it, my dear."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Obadiah nodded affirmatively to Gregor before squaring up to Caleb.

We are in an equal predicament! Your rank means nothing here. If you are from a 'better stock' than me, then what advantages does this 'better stock' have? Faster reflexes? Strength? Would you call the vampiric stock the best then, huh?

Or is it just your noble name?
One should fashion their own name, not let their name fashion them.

I understand that we have classes, originally set up by the more successful, and leaving a mostly decadent lineage. A good Lord cares for his people and doesn't seek to place himself first, especially if he hasn't earned it.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"The vampire won't care if you are of noble birth. We are all the same on the inside and that's the bits they want." Kate said but then abruptly switched to Markus again who looked puzzled.
"If some of you aren't of noble birth than how did you come to be invited to this party?" He wondered half to himself.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Antonio sighed tiredly. "This is not the time for such a discussion, gentlemen. Myself and Caleb, and no doubt more here besides, have been born to what are called better stock, and as such have been fashioned by our surroundings and society to act the way we do. We do not mean any harm by it, but I would remind you that any who survive here must return to such conditions - do not get used to acting however you so wish; nor shall we. Even we have people we must bow and kow-tow to!
"And Obadiah, putting words into Caleb's mouth is not a helpful way of advancing any discussion. Now can we turn away from class discussion? It is completely beside the point, and I for one would like to survive this ordeal!"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Clemence listened to the lethal-sounding conversation with an expression like a nervous puppy and a steadily-draining sherry glass. However, when the conversation turned to nobility, she felt forced to act. She slugged her drink and unsteadily stood up, looking vaguely peeved that no-one had offered to help her.

'My dear fellow' she said to Obadiah. 'We noble families get and keep this position only by copious blood and sweat. Our position is simply proof that we are better equipped for the world than the, aha, lower classes. We do not seek to place ourselves first, but our superior blood ensures that we will always be a cut above the rest; and it would be folly to try and pretend otherwise. This is simply the way things are.'

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Bastion sat back in this seat. "To the contrary, Antonio. I am finding this discussion remarkably informative."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Caleb stared Obadiah in the eye as he spoke,

"I have seen your ilk many a time, men who make lots of noise regarding equality and deeds making the man and whatnot. They never seem to get very far in life, most end up in prison or worse. Perhaps the same will hold true of you if we manage to escape. What is it that you do anyway and how did you come to be here?"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Mihael grunted in annoyance.

"Since when did I claim that I had a master plan? I said I merely had a theory. And good guess, but no. My theory is about how the vampire thinks. If we can figure out how he thinks, we can predict what he will do, get inside his mind."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"There isn't much "we" in "we can figure out how he thinks" if your going to keep this idea to yourself."
Lucien replied to Mihael as he refilled his goblet from an large crystal decanter.

"And discussing the vampire, no matter how lacking in merit your theory probably is, trumps getting swept up in this..." he gestures around the room "clash of the classes. It's only a matter of time before they draw a big line down the room."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

"I have some chalk!" Kate said enthusiastically. "I am related to the emperor by the way. His sister in fact."
"What are you talking about Kate? That is completely untrue. I am actually a relative of Elanor Rosenberg, you may have heard of her? Markus said regardless of whether anyone was listening to his rather quiet voice. " Although no one is quite sure what happened to her, although it is rumoured she became a vampire i am sure that is just gossip. "
Suddenly he slapped himself in the face with a harsh yelp.
"Why would you tell them that?" Kate asked angrily then speaking to the other guests. "That was a long time ago and had nothing to do with us whatsoever. We are only very distantly related.. " She said rapidly with a charming smile.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Mihael ate small crumblets of chocolate in impatience.

"As for the class war I would be disappointed if people were so shallow as to value their annual income over their life. And as for my theory, I am not telling you now because telling you now would invalidate the results. Please wait until tomorrow morning, then I can explain all."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Sigmund bowed slightly to Rosa then turned away and looked at the others.

"Whether born high or low isn't overly important right now." the knight said with a shake of his head "I would expect the vampire to be imitating a mortal with noble blood however."

The knight shrugged slightly "I must admit however that investigation is not my forte, I am a simple knight and so am used to much more forward methods of confrontation."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Bastion sat up straighter.
"If you would permit an interjection.
Discussing the vampires will only get us so far. In fact - what is there left to discuss? All we know is that there are a number of vampires among us, and that we must identify them to survive. In the end, we must cast our vote against those we suspect.
"All we have to base this decision on is how we act and what we say. No, I say let this discussion run its course; it is providing substantial insights on these characters. Whether the topic itself is relevant or not is itself immaterial. What is said is what is important. When something suspiscious arises, then let the questioning begin.
"We have said all that there is to be said on how to find the vampire. The cards are on the table: now let us find out what's up the sleeve."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Caleb responded to Bastion

"Indeed sir, you have made a most precise observation. Character and conversation are what we will be judged on, not how much collective knowledge we have on the subject of vampires. And to state my case once more, I merely introduced myself as nobility as a statement of fact, an introduction to who I am. It was only when that status was called into question by those of lower stations that I made it clear that to do such was not their place."

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

The talk of vampires was steadily putting Rosa off her breakfast. She was fortunate to have eaten most of it already, but as talk of voting each other off for death continued, Rosa had had enough. She pushed her plate away, before swivelling around in her chair.

"How can you talk about this so casually?" she railed, "You're talking about killing another human being! How can you handle that responsibility so flippantly, like human life means nothing to you?" Rosa paused. "And amongst you, one of you is going along with it, talking about how to find the vampire by voting each other to death. One of you is finding this all very funny, treating us like vermin. Well I won't stand for it!" Rosa stood up.

"Whichever is the vampire, you've got a pretty damned good chance of getting killed here, if the odds are against you. But it won't happen without innocents dying too. Is it worth that much to you, you miserable beast?" Rosa's eyes swivelled around the room. She couldn't tell vampires apart from humans, who was she kidding? "If you give yourself up, I'm sure all of us "normal" humans would vouch for your safe passage if you let us live. We walk away, and so do you. You probably didn't plan on the host's wards, whoever you are, so please take this chance and leave!"

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

Sigmund smiled sadly at Rosa.

"I'm afraid I disagree my lady. I believe our lives are a small price to pay to stop such a beast being unleashed on the war." he said bluntly "It would be a sin against the Gods to promise save passage to any vampire."

"We can take solace in the fact that even should we fail to determine the creature's identity then it will stay die here, trapped by the magic of our host." he added.

RE: VAU IC: The Fangtastical and Arousing Tale of Anita Jacqueofff

The pale-faced killer that was made up to look like some kind of creature of the night suddenly chimed in.

"Sometimes a few must die so that a greater number may live." He said to Rosa in a low, gravelly rasp that sounded like he had some kind of permanent throat affliction.

"And by the way, no one knows exactly how many vampires, if any, are in this group. So we should acknowledge the possibility of there being more than one." Konrad continued, before alternating between a cold glare in the hostess' direction and a scrutinizing stare at the group trapped within the chamber.
