Oh man, I just had my first game with the new book, versus Tomb Kings, 2000pts and my MVP was my 2 spirit hosts!

I took 2 units of 2 Ghost hosts and deployed them on the flank. They then proceeded to entangle themselves into a unit of chariots on one side, and the Necrosphinx on the other. These units would have flanked my battleline and made the game go vastly differently, but somehow both Ghosts emerged triumphant!

Thats right ladies and gentlemen, 180pts of Spirit host killed the Necrosphinx and a block of 3 chariots, winning me the game. Needless to say, I was pleased!

(In his defense, I hid them pretty well from his magic and he was just out of range, or failed to cast, with his Light wizard who was there specifically to bake ethereal things.)

In short, I am a fan of ethereal units now, moreso than ever! Anyone have similar stories, either with ethereal chaos, or a unit that shouldn't perform that well carrying the game?

On a reverse of that: The Green Knight came in in turn 2 and charged my Terrorgeist in the flank. The scream did nothing, and I kept losing combat by 2 till the TG died in turn 4. Green knight did nothing for the rest of the game. (I also did not know he had the green knight in his list, and we play open lists in these parts.)

Ethereal's are usually hit or miss, one time i had one banshee(that i kept hiding in the swamp) pop out and scream at stuff that tried to pass, that game she killed 15 skinks and then murdered a stegodon locked in combat.

on a different game my wraiths died in combat res without killing a single empire swordsman, i mean its true i rolled horribly but still you think they would have done something...

either way i have had such great luck in some games i always try to bring some. Really awesome story about your SH, the tomb king player was probably really pissed

yeah, it was a friendly game and we are just learning, so he wasn't too mad, more impressed really.

He did get a little mad when his scorpion popped up and promptly got eaten by my Combat Vapire General of Doom without being able to strike a single blow.

Lesson learned for him = have a central battle line, dont worry about flanking (I have no warmachines to get to), and get the sphinx in combat earlier.

Lesson learned for me = Ethereals are annoying to my opponents! I do have one friend who plays Wood (WE without the Elves), andf thats an entire army of magic attacks :( maybe leave the ghosts at home for that match.

A few weeks back I deployed a unit of spirit host in each flank when I was having a 2000p game on battle-line against my friends Orcs & Goblins. I won with 1400 points as one of my spirit hosts charged his Arachnarok Spider in turn 2, making is stuck in close combat for the rest of the game! The other host charged into his rocklobber. It was hilarious, especially considering the time it took for him to paint it (he's more of an artist, not a strategist).

I don't field them all the time though... I often play against Daemons of Chaos and Skaven who got plenty of magic...
