I say Orks you ever checked out the deff dreads and killa kans orks get there pretty cool plus you can take up to three killa kans per heavy support choice.

killa kans are like mini dreads where a deff dread is the bigger version if you were so inclined you could take at least five deff dreads if you had two big meks making two troops because of the meks and then three in heavy support not to mention with ork stuff being pretty cheap you could still have a good amount of other units and boy are the orks spoiled for choices in that department.

Nids I don't have much to say about nids I was never a fan of them really so someone else can see about fighting for them.

I really need to quit going on about some of the armies I like then it makes me want to start collecting them.

Orks, just for pure customizability. The amount you can do with vehicles, weapons, armour and the amount of integration with other kits and races is just amazing! Orks all the way.:zombie:

For customizing, 'nids every time- they are a constantly evolving life form, so almost anything goes. For playing, I choose 'nids, because, although I lose a lot of games, I've only lost a couple of times to orks.

The downside with Orks and convertions is that they will end up looking rather samey. That's not to say it can look great but with tyranids you literally have endless options when it comes to colour schemes. Not to mention that you can pretty much buy anything beastly/insectoid-like model you like and make it work. After you've bought a few boxes you will have tons of excess bits for some wicked convertions.

'Nids and Daemons are my next projects... But first, I gotta finish my necrons.

A small advice on picking an army. Those that knows me know that I am extremely indecisive myself, ending up with lots of model from different armies but no real army(bar VC, Dwarfs and Dark Eldar). What you need to do is not fall back every time you get a new idea because you'll end up in a constant "The grass is always greener on the other side"-scenario. Essentially, you end up doing nothing at all.

Try to envision what it is you like about each of these two armies. Then imagine yourself with that army 6 months from now. When you've decided on the army, do not look back. Do not even look at the codex or models of the army you didn't choose. That's how I ended up with necrons(instead of the ludacris number of armies I jump inbetween). I just commited myself to the army and suddenly I stopped looking at what other armies could do. I tend, just for my own sake, write up some fluff and gave my army some personality. Making it "your own" have always helped me.

So indeed, do not listen to anyone but yourself, make the choice 100% on what you want(hence the whole thing about thinking about your chosen army 6 months from now). If not, you're likely to start second-guess your decision again.

always the same damn colours for exo-squeletons and what-not.

Wait... out of those two armies, you reckon Tyranids are the ones with "always the same damn colour"?? ;)

Meanwhile, I echo what Danceman said. I used to be like that. In fact, I still am like that. But lack of time/money is helping me keep focussed. If you don't lack one or both of those things, then maybe you'll just need to be a bit disciplined.

Good luck with the choice!

Well... You might be right, but you must admit that orks have way more details to paint than the nids.

Well, yeah. And if it were me, out of those two armies I'd be choosing orks. Partly because I quite like the green (I got a couple of boyz just to paint a couple of years ago, and managed a scheme which I really enjoyed painting, and looked pretty good). Also, the relentless non-anthropomorphism of the nids is something I find difficult to deal with painting-wise over an extended period. It's one thing to be painting a monster, or monstrous unit, but quite another to do a whole army of it. Maybe it's not a problem for most people, but I somehow need to be able to relate to the dudes I'm painting on some level if I'm going to painting up 100+ of them without constantly looking over the fence at what other armies I could be collecting.

You do not need to paint your entire Tyranid force in the same colours. All you need is one uniform trait and that's it... Or don't and paint them according to how you want them to look(I mean painting a lictor is bright yellow might be a strange choice, not very stealthy) but even then it is nice to have some reoccuring colour(but again, doesn't have to be the prominent colour).

I disagree on the details. The details on the Orks are more in your face and quite predictable in design, whereas Tyranid details are more subtle and less wacky. With tyranids detail-work only goes as far as you want to take it, with Orks it is already there.

Imo you get a better effect when you use same colours to knit your army together. Here's my Nids

Behewut? Naah, I call it the cool sounding 'Hive Fleet Librarian' (lol) or 'Hive Fleet Clostridium' just because it makes me smile.
