Well, just making my first contribution as far as painting WIP posts go, hope you enjoy!

Also, I am writing a short tut on how to paint the red on his cloak and hopefully other good paint tuts on that same blog soon.

Id appreciate the visits!

Thanks man, glad you like it :D

Here are two more guys that I am working on at the same time - I have a habit of painting more than one mini at a time, as it helps me avoid that pesky painter's burnout by switching back and forth, making progress here and there.

GW's Winged Vampire Lord

Vlad Von Carstein, only the sword on this guy so far (stupid sword had an accident and needed to be reattached >:/ )

Really like the flesh on the winged vamp... nice work. Did you obtain that just via a base and washes?

Like Vlad's sword as well, not to sure about the white lining, but this could tie in more when the rest of the model is painted.

Nice work overall, can't wait to see a front rank of a unit!

Thanks for the compliments guys, and I am glad you like :D

@Count Vorri - For the Winged Vampire Lord flesh I did a solid coat with GW's elf flesh, glazes of space wolf gray towards the top areas of the wing and glazes of fenris gray and castellan green towards the areas closer to the arm itself. After those glazes dried I did a wash with druchii violet over the whole flesh area (1 to 2 parts flow aid) and the same ratio with reikland fleshshade from the middle of the wing towards the arm area and just a bit of clean up after those dried.

As far as the sword on Vlad I am a bit bothered by the white lining on one side of the sword too - I may clean that up a bit by toning it down a bit.

@Benvoliothefirst - man, where di you find the tut for the magnetizing the terrorgheist? Ima have to steal that idea as well! Looks awesome btw!

Man, I love your painting style. So pretty.

This is the tutorial on Rob Hawkin's blog about magnetizing the terrorgheist. I remember seeing his undead army many many years ago in White Dwarf and when I realized recently that he had a blog and I could follow his work as it happened I was very excited. I remembered the terrorghist magnetizing thing when I got the kit and realized how freakin' huge the thing was. Luckily I managed to find the tutorial again!

I visited your site and was really impressed by both the vampire and the blood knights. If I could make one constructive criticism about the site design itself, I'd say that while all the big photos are pretty, they take a massive amount of time to load and look through. I might kind of parse them down to one pic for each two steps to make the whole thing load faster on slower connections.

And do you have another, older blog somewhere, or more pics of your collection? I can't get enough of this stuff!

Superb painting! Surely a great plog to look at ;)

EnigmaVlad is coming very good - I just love the blending on the cloth and the subtle changes in colour! I'm painting one myself and I'll surely look here for tips and inspiration ;)

Also - wondrous NMM! And the wing is so.. fleshy ;) Och heck - this is generally an awesome plog. I'm eager to see more minis and those finished!

Made a little more progress on GW Vlad - I don't do NMM gold very often so this one gave me a hard time getting it done.

As always, going for the very saturated palette to create contrasts. Got that cartoony look using liche purple, snakebite leather, bleached bone, space wolf gray, and black/white for the last shadows/highlights

Very nice! The sword looks great and the armour is going to look pretty sweet too. Have you got a colour recipe for that sword? It looks almost chromed. I'm guessing there's a little turqouise in it somewhere?

Started on the cape and the skin - I been debating what color I should go for the hair... thinking of a platinum/gray maybe... space wolf gray with fenris gray for shading

Any suggestions?

I like the contrastst! They surely can make mini look very good, even when it's a bit mor exagerrated than in real life ;) Good work with vlad! I think that the gold parts got a little blurred, but it's still awesome! As for the gray - I would go with dark grey with silverish highlights - I think that would work nice with the rest of the mini ;)

I absolutely LOVE this mini. Where is it from???

Great work, very inspiring!

A bit of downtime on the plog - been super busy at work, got sick... so to make everything better I went ahead and got myself a whole new set of paints (Reaper Master Series) since I been testing them out and they seem to be best for my glazing style of painting.

That first mini is "Dark Vlad" from Enigma Miniatures you can find the mini here

Slow but steady progress -

Cleaned up some of the gold parts on the left leg that were blurry - still not perfect but I feel a bit better about it. (thanks for the constructive criticism, always helps mate!)
