RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Nice work with the count conversion! I always love when people turn some High Elf models undead. Well done.

Your army seems to be coming together nicely. Keep up the good work.

I'm prepping for my upcoming 500 pt battle against wood elves. I decided to add another unit of 5 dire wolves, a unit of 10 grave guard and a (1) spirit host.

So here are some WIP shots of my messy hobby corner

I decided to give the entire unit of GG one-handed weapons and shields instead of the mix of 'whatever-looks-good' I had. So I had to reassemble three of them.

I think these two turned out to look the coolest

My spirit host base. I may add some cotton to the base later to create that mist effect I've been seeing a couple of people post on here.

Sooo whaddaya think

It has been a while, I have done some things unrecorded so I can't post them, but I have taken some pictures on the corpse cart I'm working on.

what a bitch to assemble.

I decided to carve out the neck, so the necromancer would kind of get a nazgul feel.

I spent quite a lot of time on the OSL, I think it's turning out quite nicely.

upcoming projects: Hexwraiths, Varghulf. - for my 750 pt list.

RE: Primewill's painting log

Wow, it's been so long since I've last posted, I'll show you some of my finished stuff: I've been a busy bee.
most of them need just a little more attention to the base, I didn't add static grass to most new things yet.

So here's the corpse cart guys, nothing much changed from the WIP photos, it's just thrown together ;)

I did this varghulf for that same battle, assembled and painted it in just one afternoon!

My Graveguard! I'd finished them quite some time ago, but forgot to post them here.

I'm currently preparing for a 1000 pts list, these are some ghouls that I got for my birthday

And these hexwraiths are what I'm working on right now. I actually put them away a week ago, because I got annoyed with them.

I used the horse armor from one of the black knights in the box, this one's legs still looked kind of hexwraithy... :)

I'm also sharing the new Dark Vengeance set with a friend, so I'm also busy with chaos space marines. I decided to go for nurgle >:D
Here's my hellbrute (WIP) - the lighting is kind of weird. I don't know why it looks so blue.

just a chaos space marine I finished up to test the colour scheme.

Thanks for watching guys, I'll return soon with an update on the hexwraiths.

RE: Primewill's painting log

Do you guys have any tips on how to make good photos of miniatures? I find it difficult to get them into focus right, and getting the lightning to be perfect. A lot of detail is often lost when using the flash, and it's hard to get the picture sharp enough without flash - even if there seems to be enough environmental light..

I own a relatively small digital camera, a 14.0 MP nikon coolpix s3100

Any tips? do's and don'ts?

RE: Primewill's painting log

get a small tripod (they cost around 10€) and use a self timer. that way you wont be holding the camera when the pic is taken, so there will be no vibrations. obviously you should activate macro mode (the flower symbol) but that may be too obvious :D. other than that its just good lighting i guess. that camera should be much better than what is needed.

oh, i almost forgot. do NOT take the pics from too close. i have my camera 50-70 cm away from the model, and zoom in instead. that makes a huge difference in getting sharp pictures (at least with my camera).

EDIT: oh, and you might want to crop your pictures and scale them down a bit. no reason to go higher than 800 pixels in any direction. here is a free and easy to use software for that if you do not have any.

RE: Primewill's painting log

Finished my hexwraiths today! these were surprisingly annoying to paint, haha. Lots of hardly accessible places.

I decided to try out the tufts of cotton on the base as I've seen done on this forum, quite pleased with the effect.

RE: Primewill's painting log

Thanks guys,

yeah it's still hard for me to get the lightning to be good, but the shadow makes it quite dramatic I think :). though it does hide quite a bit of the painting...

RE: Primewill's painting log

Excellent contrasts with them flames! Good job. I think I'll use this as a reference when I do my own hexwraiths.

RE: Primewill's painting log

lovely models, but i do think the backdrop is a bit over the top. id stick with a flat white, or as i do an A4 paper printed with a white-blue transition. anyway, a fairly neutral background will allow us to admire the models more :)

RE: Primewill's painting log

@ Raizi: Thanks! that means a lot! I started out with white, then used light blue on the roots of the flames, washed it with a blue glaze and finished by drybrushing white over the protruding areas.

I think I'll stick to a neutral backdrop from now on then, I thought you were talking about the dropshadow or something. yeah I can see it's a bit distracting.

thanks for the tips!

RE: Primewill's painting log

hey guys, justed wanted to show you what I've been working on. I'd bought this Dark eldar model a couple of months ago with a conversion in mind but never got around to it. Now I finally got her done and I can start painting!

I had that little bat at the bottom of the base lying around in my bit box. does anyone know what set it´s from? I really like it, but I can't for the life of me remember what it came with...

RE: Primewill's painting log

@ Adam

Ah thanks! I was thinking, I should get more of that set then. But I don't think I have use for another corpse cart :P
