Hey guys, so I'm thinking of getting Prince Althran to convert into a vampire lord. I've been debating several other possible models to convert, but I just happened upon this guy, and he looks like he'd make quite a good vampire.

I was thinking about doing a bit of cutting here and there and some green stuffing. Like I'd like to try and make the wing ornaments on his armor into bat wings, the two big gems into skulls, and possibly filing down his shield and freehanding something vampiric there...

However this would be my first big conversion, and I don't want to fuck this up (excuse my french). I'm especially worried about this one because it's a tin model, which I'm not experienced with at all.

Any tips on converting or neat ideas on making him less elfy and more undeady?

It can be tough to do but I would try to putty some fangs on him. I know his mouth is an extremely small space but if you could pull it off, it would look fantastic.

That is a pretty bg undertaking you have there. I'm guessing you havent got the model yet? If so that means you'll be able to get it in finecast which will make converting a hell of a lot easier. How much experience have you had with converting, primarily greenstuffing? changing the gems into skulls and the wings into bats will be quite difficult. Now i'm not sure what's on the shield but bat wings on that might be a bit easier and just leave the ones on his armour as they are.
If you'll forgive the plug, I'd reccomend taking a look at the skull staff on my vampire lord in my plog (link in signature). I would reccomend that instead of greenstuffing skulls, get some spare skeleton heads and carve the back off of them like i did on the staff, then carve the gems off and put the skulls in their place. obviously i wouldnt take any action before seeing if they would fit properly.

It might be easier to simply remove the shield and swap in one from the VC upgrade kit.

Reaper's Darkspawn or Necropolis Weapons Packs might have a good replacement sword.

With the Gems, I wouldn't swap them for skulls, paint them as if they were filled with blood. Possibly modify the ear to a more human one.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Yeah, I'm not experienced with GS yet. So I'm not sure how it will turn out, filing down left over skulls is a great idea, but as you said I'd have to see how big its gonna be. The staff (lynks) looks really good, so if it's going to fit, I'm definitely going for that. If not, I'll try something cool with the gems like the blood thing, though I'm not sure if I can pull that off. I'm definitely going to try the ears, fangs and do something with the sword (maybe barbs near the hilt of the sword)

Anyway, before I try this out I'm going to practice Greenstuffing tails on my Direwolves (Chaos Warhounds conversions). And probably try to get some tips on how to get things done at my local GW store.

On the finecast, It's uncertain of course when this model is going to be produced in resin. And I'm pretty excited about trying this out, so I'm not sure if I have the patience for that :P.

This is ALthran's shield, pretty elfy so I'm not sure what to do with it. maybe just file it all down, LGS it to be smooth and try to freehand something, or get some other cool shield...

You can use sandpaper to remove the symbol and then clean the dust with knife. Then it is up to you. I have recently converted a chaos shield in this way. Then I added skull symbol from 6th ed. skeletons, a bit of green stuff and horns from the same box. I can take a pic for your inspiration if you want ;)

Looking forward to see him finished by the way :konrad:
