I hope this is the right place.
My Asharah command group have arrived last week. But last week proved too tiring for me so I recently had the time to assemble her.
You can find more information about the mini in here http://www.ragingheroes.com/products/ashara-command-group.
I'll make this kind of like a review so bear with me please
Raging heroes is a newcomer to the 28mm scale miniatures league. The year 2009 saw a few more companies come to the stage(though mantic is the only one I can remember now). I find this particularly pleasing because any alternative to GW makes me feel like more of an hobbyist than a plastic-cocaine addict. Also GW being the big family father, pets your head a for a few weeks and goes back to his other (probably more favourite) children. So it's natural for us to seek good miniatures elsewhere.
About raging heroes, as far as I understand they are a butique miniature shop based on France. If you have clicked the link above you can see that they are fairly new to the scene(they have three minis available at the moment) but they are running ahead of the flock with their bold design. I bought the whole command group when I first saw them. Their pricing is all right I think Asharah is sold out now but she used to be ten pound or so, it's comparable to the avatars of war miniatures which are at the same price range. GW on the other hand has a few pounds cheaper miniatures at the on foot hero range.
The miniatures arrived after a two months of unfortunate delays. I must admit I had forgotten about these minis until they sent me an email about the delays. The delay was mostly caused by molding problems. They are a new company and frankly I thought these miniatures were nigh impossible to cast(especially that flag) so I gave up the hope for a while but eventually they proved me wrong.
Enough ranting.
The miniatures:
They come in a package like this;
People wrote that they were expecting a box but I'm all right with a blister. And they are certainly better looking than GW's.
They are limited edition minis so they have a card in their blister with a little backstory and your mini number at the back.
The Banner bearer comes in a box which is completely absent of any information outside. A little sticker would be good I think. Talking about the banner, which I bought the mini just for it, is awesome. It is beyond words, have a look at it.
I intend to use this piece as our dreaded Drakenhof banner. Picture it with greenish otherworldly flames and silhouettes of lost souls on it. I'll probably comission it to an airbrush artist because I'm more capable in picturing than actually painting.
And Asharah;
Gorgeous isn't she? She has tons of options other than this build. She has two more heads, a staff , another more intricate sword and a flimsy chain whip which no one likes including the manufacturer.
The mini is finely detailed, had little to none flash on her (unlike some manufacturer's
) , mold lines are present but not a big problem with files and modelling knife. She has a slot under her which goes into the base I didn't like much but had no other choice because it would ruin the mini if I tried to remove it.
Assembling on the other hand was a bitch. It was mostly because I did not like her intended pose. Normally she has a taller more static pose. Tinkering with her separate leg I gave her a more catwalk feel, a wider step and hopefully a more dynamic pose. Her hips went with the pose in my opinion but tell me if she is looking funny. Her head was my most fierce trouble. Normally her head is in this weird position which she looks like she is looking for her lost trinket on the ground. To make this worse the head I used has a beautiful long hair and it is really heavy. So tried to make her look forward but I failed miserably. I said at least she could look a little higher, after hours of struggle I only managed to make her look a few nanometres higher. And the last part made me feel like slamming the mini to the wall was her sword wielding right hand. I had a hard time finding the natural position for the hand. even if I did it refused to glue itself to the mini. I sued green stuff and it looked awkward. So I had to drill the existing hole bigger to glue it successfully. Even now when I look it seems like an awkward style to hold a sword.
All these horror stories makes this mini for the moderately experienced hobbyist. She is in terrible need of drilling and stuffing(this sentence will turn a few eyes from DoN's crowd). There are a few hollow points remain even if you manage to glue it perfectly. She needs green stuff but which metal mini doesn't so I think it is not a big problem.
I'll quit yapping after this paragraph.
When compared to GW miniatures;
This lady is big. She is provided with a 25 mm base but sits all right on a 20 mm one. She is taller than our aristocratic lady which is a tall miniature in GW standarts or at least in VC range. This height problem is a result of her extremely high heels. Without the heels she wouldn't be higher than our aristocratic lady.
Unfortunately she easily dwarfs my other vampire, which is a really old but awesome blood dragon model.
Amongst other troops there's the same problem. She dwarfs our grave guard. But so does the aristocrat lady. She certainly attracts attention to herself but the question is does she look out of place in there?
I'll never be sure untill she is painted. But from what I've seen she is more suitable to a WoC army than VC or DE. And she is a great starting piece for a Valkia conversion.
So that's it. If you are interested in vamp ladies this is a great model both in design and detail. She has fantastic options, nice versatility. But looks a bit odd amongst VC minis.
