Yes-yes. This thread will be dedicated to my Skaven army and it's progress. I felt like I needed a little break from my Vampire Counts and since I haven't been too active painting them for the past two months, my little rat-men are getting some love in the meantime.

Firstly, I started building my Warlord mounted on a Rat-Ogre Bonebreaker. Here's some WIP-shots, please comment. I'm still not sure if I will make the rat-ogre stand a bit taller, it all depends on how it will look with the Warlord on top of it.

As with my Vampire Counts, I will list any pieces I've used in my conversion that are not vanilla with the kit.

I use the Blood Bowl rat-ogre mini as the base, and I replaced the throwing hand with a blade-claw from the newest rat-ogre/giant rat kit. The platform on top of it is actually made from the bottom part of a Tomb Kings Chariot. C&C always appreciated. The Warlord is none other than Queek Headtaker. I just love the model and it fits perfectly with the idea that I have in mind. I'm looking for a rather dramatic & dynamic pose...

Here's the pics:

@ Sanai, the platform's currently in place with a blob of green stuff. I plan on adding some pikes/nails through it to make it look like stapled on the rat-ogre.

@ Chaos-Born, It's still a secret. ;)

Finally managed to attach the rider. I must admit that it took a lot more patience and teeth gritting than I had anticipated. I still need to clear the green stuff around the chain hand a bit and figure out if I want to do something about the rat-ogre's legs. Now it looks like they forgot to add leg days to it's calendar @ Clan Moulder... xD

I think I'll continue priming the base next, but here's the current WIP pics:

I really like how the size of the Rogre model and the size of the rider aren't that far apart. You've created an interesting illusion. It forces me to imagine what an armored man-sized ratman that can ride into battle on a dude that has just been 'roided out from the minute he was born would look like running towards me on a battlefield.

I think this is supremely cool.

Looks great! I love it, especially the look of the Warlord really in the moment, just about to jump on his enemies! :D

Keep up the good work and post some more pics!

Did some work with the bases. Well, actually just planned on how I want to do them. I wanted a totally dirrent theme from my wintery and frozen VC, so I'm doing a drought-theme now.

This is my first attempt with no planning, using cork:

Didn't really like how it came out, so I did some research and checked for some references. So this is what I found and used as an inspiration:

And this is what I made yesterday with some modeling clay:

I played around with crackle paint some and was thinking of using it, but it won't work with the stuff I plan on doing long with the rocks. I still think I might paint the 'stones' with crackle paint in the end, gotta try that out too at some point.

But that same crackle paint tutorial was actually the inspiration for doing the drought-theme in the first place. xD

Basecoated a lot of stuff past week and I have the crackle paint idea figured out. I have also made up my mind about how to paint this and my VC. I will try to go with a more speedy approach with my Skaven and will give my VC more attention to detail. That way I will most likely have two finished armies to give for my grandchildren given the pace I am able to finish anything.

Pics will be coming later. Stay tuned, I'm back in the saddle.

Well, here's some WIP material on my Warp Lightning Cannon. I'm doing all my Skaven with Army Painter's Leather Brown basecoat spray and then working on top of that. I plan on painting a distinctive color scheme to separate dirrerent clans. Clan Skryre will be dressed in khaki colored coats. You will later see the same color scheme with all my other Clan Skryre troops. Zzzzap!

OK, here's where I'm at with my Warlord: primed, based and ready to get painted. I'm really happy with the pose and all the sweat and swearing when putting it together were really worth it.
