Has anyone else picked up this book yet? I saw it in the store on Friday and couldn't help myself. I will start reading it as soon as time allows me to have a life outside of work and school...

What happened to it being released in November?
Gonna' have to get that seeing as it's out!

EDIT: Just checked amazon and it says it will be released on the 10th of November.
Where did you get yours?

I got mine from games workshop. That's interesting to hear that amazon is releasing it 3 weeks after gw stores start selling it.

I got mine early from barnes and noble and I'm already on page 283 I'm really loving it so far.

I got mine early too. I think they had a new guy working there at the time, and that's why the book was out a day early. I also got some "free" liquid green stuff that day. The total of the two came out to 9 something. I thought that one of the items must be on sale because the book was $8 and the liquid green stuff was $4...it didn't hit me till I got home, GW never has things go on sale. Looked on the receipt, and it turns out that they guy didn't charge me for the green stuff. Called the store back and told them what happened, and they said to not worry about it. So free new product and a new book to read, not bad for a Friday.

Started reading this about a week ago, tho being a teacher not got much free time. So far it is turning out amazing, which to be honest I was skeptical about. I had not been a great fan of his other books, but yeah hope he keeps the flow its getting real good. Also the art choosen for the book is breath taking, love it

A lot of times if you go to the bookstores or other places that carry the black library books they'll have them out before the actual release date that's why I never rely on the website it just gives me the month never the actual date so I just head to the bookstore close to the end of the month of the one before it's release month and can normally buy it then.

I bought mine on like the 21st of October at barnes and noble and it's not the first time I've got the books before there release month either.

Up to page 160 so far, up till now the book has been meh...
Allot of background though, looks like we may get a Red Duke Model instead of Walach back.

Fail...... Just fail.
Been out about 2-3 weeks in Sunderland store.

Speaking of Sunderland Store Drag yourself through at some point, my army has been much refined, got to for the Gauntlet on Sunday.
Trying to paint 30 GG with GW in 3 days when your ill is harsh.
That and doing a convert for a BSB (mine still has yet to arrive from next day delivery by Couriers when ordered on the 25th) and 61 models total to base......

I was a little disappointed with the book. I like warhammer fluff quite a bit, but the writing didn't really suck me into the story. The end was very predictable, which was a let-down, but can't go into details as I don't want to spoil it for someone just reading now who is enjoying it more than I did. The biggest issue I had was the writer's use of the word "malignant". If I had made a game of drinking whenever I read that word, I would have passed out stone drunk before finishing the book. I know it's a small thing, but once I noticed it, I couldn't let it go...

Well im only up to chapter 4 mind but im really enjoying it at the moment despite the fact i have a sneaking suspision as to how it will end it isnt going to discourage me from reading it and makes me want to build up the bret section of my undead

The end is always Good guys win because the bad guys either fail stupidly, the good guys win when it is not possible through ad writing or they just up and bugger off for no good reason.

the Book was a disappointment but I did enjoy parts of the history leaning of his relatives and that Abhorash is his Sire but I still have no clue why in ever image he carries a mace.....
There has never been a single mention of that or of him even using a mace.
With impaling bodies on stakes however it just seems they are trying to use up the last of the Vlad lore they did not use for the Von Carsteins.

There were allot of confusing writing errors in the book however, especially when it came to the frequent issue of knights having charged and using their swords they would suddenly have a new lance the moment needed.
A point I raise when The King Was Fighting his older Brother The Red Duke at the Very start.......
Where do these instant weapon summoning spells come from?
Another issue is numbers, the undead horde goes from hundreds to a couple thousand to the tens of thousands but then they reference half his army would be destroyed by a unknown number of Bretonian archers should they cross open ground even if they are horribly out numbered and then a certain magic used kills a few hundred using magic and calls it a tenth of the army.......
Can anyone in Games Workshop Do maths or logistics over more than 20 pages at once and then remember what they wrote prior?

Abhorash is his Sire? I call blatant rip-off from the TVC I have been rp'ing his character there for a couple of years now and I said long before this book came out that Abhorash was his sire. I want credit!

Well if they are spying on you and rippign your work off say he has 8 in ever stats and costs 300 points quick while they still may be paying attention. erv:

Just hope this means we get the bloodlines again though, even if its just those that the heads of each sired.
Would like it if it mentioned Vlads Grave has been emptied as well.

Back in Nights Dark Masters Role Play from games Workshop it confirms that the grey college itself is intending to resurrect him to fight Mannfred and other worrisome foes, considering the only thing that has stopped Vlad coming back so far is the blessed ground its only a matter of time.

Vlad is one of the original, husand to Nefrata, Descendant of Nagash, ever bit of lore stats that vamps can return even after being destroyed as their souls never leave the mortal realm, it just makes good sense to have the big players all still around.

My understanding is that Vlad is most certainly not one of the original generation vampires. That it's quite likely that he is directly descended from the line of Vashanesh out of those more northeasterly lands he was alleged to have dwelt in, perhaps only a couple generations removed, but he is not Vashanesh himself.

Considering Vashanesh's history as one of the mightiest even among the original vampires, at one time champion of Nagash himself and commanding warlord of all Vampires, Vlad is a pitiful imitator in comparison. A vampire seeking the image of his grandsire's sire or somesuch. Vlad even had somebody make him a dime-store imitation copy of Vashanesh's ring.

The Vampire Counts Rp Games Workshop Book, Nights Dark Masters.
Vlad has been known by many, when he first came to Slavania it was as Prince Vladamir and then Finally Vlad Von Carstein but his original name was Vashanesh.
It leave no room for interpretation in the book it says quite literally.
"He was Vashanesh"

Also its the same ring, its only half of it though, the gem known as the eye of nagash features in a Gotrek and Felix book when they travel down to Slavania, Vlad Removed it from his ring, he allowed himself to be cut down in the final battle against whats now known as the tomb king so the vampires could escape as it forces them to obey whoever holds it, the magic of the person who wields it notwithstanding.

He was Descended from Nagash and his General as such but Nagash used them to his own ends and never intended to help take back their homeland.
The reason he got killed so easily in the book is because games workshop write terrible books when it comes to good fighting evil as they never let evil win, its the golden rule, no matter how sure victory is it still gets ruined.

To be honest, I never liked this 7th rehash of the vampire origin or how all of a sudden they all went to Nagash when defeated. I always felt it was weak lore. Of course I've been with the VC since the first book so... I hope that all that weak fluff dies the final death and I get my necros back. When even the writers of the novels don't acknowledge this new plastic mentality of the VC and still go about using the pre-7th lore that says something.

So...Vlad is Vashanesh, who, unlike most of the other trueborn Vampires, decided to completely assume new identities, and the ring is the original...but re-modeled and at like half-power because he took out the part that let Nagash and Arkhan control him through it.

After centuries of doing...whatever, laying low despite no sign that any agents of Nagash were inclined or able to track down and pester any of the other trueborn, he suddenly gets the bug up his rear to rule humanity again, and how better to do so than to take over the forsaken inbred backwater of Sylvania through political marriage? Was he plotting to take over the Empire as his plan from the start, or was he just content to be lord of a small and terrible place until Mordheim got meteor'ed?

And, does he have some kind of Castlevania-style Dracula-resurrection cycle going on that makes him weaker when he comes back, or are we to interpret Vlad's stat-line and abilities as representative of the average power level of the original generation vampires?

Seems a big silly without knowing the details.
