Mate, that is Amazing!!! I think it's your best work so far (i know, i know i say that every time you paint something new, but it's true!!!!). Base looks ace. I've said it before, but it looks soooo realistic. I believe you should leave it as it is. Adding freehand might be too much. The model is already very impressive

Might go with you on this one, as too much would be overkill on it. You should try those MIG pigments on yours as well, Des. You'll really like them. Add a little bit to some water, brush on, and once dry lightly brush the excess off. Good stuff, good stuff.

Loving the mud and grime, the basing, all of this. The weathering is way realistic, wish my khador commission would let me do things like that. And yes, I agree, freehanding anything on the tank would be overkill.

Here's a quick side job I'm working on.....

I've decided to build and paint a 1:72 scale PZ III tank for the World of Tanks game!

I just started on it today and after a short build, she's all primed up and base-coated.

And for scale, here's how big she is compared to my other tank. I modified a 1:48 scale KV Big Turret tank for Warmachine. The base on the modified KV is the size of a CD! That's how small this PZ III is...

As a huge fan of WoT I am very interested to see how this turns out. Are you gonna do it in the standard German colours or go for for one of the WoT camo options? I too have been musing the idea of some period pieces. Mainly Napoleonics and 52mm, though I'm thinking about some Airfix planes and tanks too.

Thanks bud . I think for this one I'll do the standard panzer grey, but with my own mix of weathering and such. I'm debating about recreating the effect of the winter wash coming off the tank a bit in some areas. I think it'll look dynamic that way. You should really try some historicals. I'm currently working on some 15mm Russian Dragoons for a commission. It's nice to mix it up a bit.

Well, I do work at a hobby store and there are literally thousands of kits that we sell. I think I might do a 1:32 or 1:24 scale IS-3 next or..... a JadgTiger or JagdPanther next!! We sell every tank from WOT with the exception of the IS-4 and IS-7 .

40k is in 25/28mm heroic. Historical kits (you know, ww2 tanks and the like) however often have a bit of scale disparity with the infantry miniatures they go with.

I generally collect 1:72 WW2 stuff from Revell. (Of course, the American T29 was only a prototype, but its my favourite thing to drive in World of Tanks)

I really like my M4 Sherman but that is probably because my crew is so good now.

Heh, my T29 crew now reside in a T30, I use the T29 to train crews for bigger tanks.
I did love the sherman though- the M4 with the howitzer is amazing, what I used to do was tear around the flanks/edges of the battlefield and then hit the enemy in the rear with a short stubby gun that makes a big bang. Once went around the island hill bit on that map with the big hill in the middle, came up on a battleline of enemy TDs from behind, 5 shots, 5 dead TDs (that howitzer basically oneshots any TD, artillery or light tank in that tier if fired from behind or the side) Its a fast, aggressive tank to use and is really risky to play that way but its alot of fun
Then theres the easy-8 (the tier 6 m4a3e8) once it gets a 90mm gun that is very fast firing, its one of the best tanks in its tier.

Haha, yes, tank talk! Quick question, as I like to play some WoT as I wait for layers to dry on my minis, I'm done with my Russian heavy line as I now have an IS4 and an IS7 sitting in my garage. I need a new line, heck even a new nation, to try. Any thoughts?

The french? They're awfully slow at first but they do get faster. They're tough as old boots too, they can take a fair beating as most shells just glance off them.

I'm currently working my way through the American line trying to get my crews to 100% of their secondary skills. My Sherman crew is nearly there. I'm thinking about going down the Russian line after this though as I've fallen in love with the KV!

I would advise the american line. It has some of the most maligned tanks, but some of the best. The M3 Lee kind of gets a really bad rap, but its front armour is dead tough and it has a fantastic gun. Just play it more like a TD and you are fine.
The M4 and E8 are great as I said.
From there you can go along the american Medium Line for the Pershing and Patton, which are pretty nice high tier mediums, or the heavy line.
The american heavy line is rough, the T1 Heavy and the following M6 are huge, enormous targets with weak side armour, but after a while I grew to love them.
After the M6, you get rewarded for all of your pain and being told you suck for choosing american with the T29. The T29 is an absolute monster in its tier with an amazing, fast firing high penetrating gun and decent armour. Get an american heavy in a hull down position, and it cant be beat.
After the T29, the higher tier american heavies are kind of so so. They are generally all gun and little armour, but have good mobility for their size. The Tier 10- The T30, is actually a giant TD.

There is an update to the American tanks coming, in which anyone who owns an american T34 or american T30 will keep those tanks, but have the moved into new spots (The T34 is going to be a cash bonus premium like the Lower and KV5, and the T30 is going to become the tier 9 TD of the second line of American TDs). When those tanks get moved, the players having them will also get a bonus tank- the tank that is taking their original spot will be given to them for free.
The same goes for the KV, KV3 and IS4- the IS4 is going to be upgraded to a tier 10 along the IS7, and the KV is being split into the KV1 and KV2.
