Hi,

Say i overrun after combat and got into a fresh unit like so:
# - fresh unit
@ - my unit

....##########
....##########
@@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@@

We fight in the next round of course. Can the winner of the fight, combat reform so after the reform the set up will look like so:

##########
##########
@@@@@
@@@@@
@@@@@

That is can he slide his unit? Normal reform, away from combat is all about keeping the center of the unit center even after the reform is complete. What about a combat reform?

Thanks

If u overrun into another unit, it is counted as a fresh charge, and you must wheel accordingly to try and maximise models in base to base contact.

Your first image should look like the second right off the bat.

After 1 round of combat, he can slide his unit (as can you, dice off to see who slides first), but he slide only so that the models initially in base to base contact remain in base to base contact (again, same as you).

You can add models in base to base contact (go wider), but you can't do the opposite.

One player told me in the shop that u can't do anything while reforming to get more models into contact. The two units have to fight it out till the end.
Another player told me u can combat reform to maximize contact by sliding one unit to get all guys in base contact. He mentioned that combat reform does not require a center to reform around, just that u can't move guys already in base contact. Those out of base contact can be moved. Just as u say.

Edit: Hm, i just found a note in BRB page 58 on the side, a drawing, saing tha u need to wheel when overrunung into a new foe. So i guess u are completly right. THANKS :)

Well that brings up an interesting question...If for some reason you are unable to wheel in order to maximize the number of models in base contact, do you fail the overrun charge and stop one inch away from the enemy unit? Could not find anything on page 58 of the BRB that would indicate yeas or no to that question.

no, if you cannot wheel then you just get what you can in combat, you wheel to maximize and in that case you would be unable to wheel so what you hit going straight would be your max

Combat reforms have a slight add-on, provided by the rulebook FAQs.

It says that Combat reforms are just like regular reforms, but you can make them while in combat AND you don't need to maintain the center of the unit on the same spot, meaning you can slide. You are free to reform as you like, so long as you don't end up having less fighters in combat (from BOTH sides, not just your own troops) and that Unit is not fighting in 2 different fronts (in which case you can't attempt to combat reform at all)

Another note is that models don't have to be stay in contact with the same model. As long as he is still in contact with the enemy at the end of the reform.
