Hello everyone!

I used to play a lot of warhammer fantasy before I moved to begin my university studies, now I've started to
miss the gaming/painting and want to start up fresh.

I really don't have anyone to play with yet, but I figure that there have to exist some gaming clubs in stockholm.
And in the meen time I want to start building a small VC army. Just some generic, with nothing special in mind.
I got no models so everything will be built from scratch.

This is my 1000pts draft, is it good enough as a core force?

1000pts VC

I was thinking of using the model for Konrad as my vampire. Also I want to have a vampire that can fight some,
rather then a pure caster

Vampire 170pts
Infinite hatered, Avatar of death (2 weapons), The Flayed hauberk.

Anyone have suggiestions for a good necromancer model? I don't find any of the GW necromancer models appealing,
well except the ones on the corps cart's. So I figure I have to make my own or something...

Necromancer 95pts
Vanhel's danse Macabre, Dispel scroll.

Maybe these ones can be replaced with 2 blocks of zombies, if that is more apropriate. I don't consider
changing the skeletons, since I can't se myself having a vampire army without them.

20 Ghouls 168pts
Ghast

20 Skeleton Warriors 180pts
Full command

10 Dire wolves 80pts

5 Blood knights 305pts
Musician, Standard bearer

Hi there, welcome to Carpe Noctem! I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. :)

All in all I think it looks like a good list.

For your Vampire I would switch his AoD out for the Sword of Battle which'll cost you less points and give you magical attacks while still granting you +1 attack. Remember that WHFB is not strictly WYSIWYG the way 40k is so you do have some leniency when it comes to characters and their weapons.

I would also split your Dire Wolf unit into two smaller units of five. This will let them cover more ground and give you an extra unit to deploy, increasing your chances of giving yourself more favourable match ups before the game has even started.

A unit of Blood Knights might be a bit overbearing in a game of this size but they certainly can work. Remember to always keep a unit or two of Dire Wolves/Fell Bats close to them to make sure that your enemy won't use their frenzy against you.

Oh and I can't really help you with your Necromancer dilemma I'm afraid, although I will agree that the ones that GW put out aren't very pleasing to the eye. Have you checked out the Empire Wizards?

Thanks! Yea I find loads of intresting stuff to read on these forums.

Thanks for the tip about the sword of battle, and fantasy not being hardcore WYSIWYG. The empire wizard box seams like a good way to put together a necromancer!
I've also heard that its better to focus on one kind of "core" unit in addition to the zombies. Is that something I should try to keep in mind?
(ie, skeletons or ghouls)

Anyhow I've done a small redesign of the list, that might be alittle better.

1000pts VC
The Vampire still retain the fighting power from the last list, but now he got the
additional power to bolster the Skeleton unit.

Vampire 180pts
Infinite hatered, Lord of the dead, Sword of battle, The Flayed hauberk.

Necromancer 95pts
Vanhel's danse Macabre, Dispel scroll.

I went with 1 unit of 30, so I could put some additional points into the vampire and
also give the blood knights a kastelan.

30 Zombies 132pts
Full command

20 Skeleton Warriors 180pts
Full command

Decided to split the unit into 2 units of 5 wolves instead. But isnt it better to have a
big unit as a screen, since they will be harder to shoot down in 1 turn of shooting.

5 Dire wolves 40pts

5 Dire wolves 40pts

5 Blood knights 325pts
Full command

Dragon's Lair act as ther gaming center, located in Kungsholmstorg (close to RÃ¥dhuset on the blue line)

Couple of things:

You might want to consider the Black Periapt on the necromancer at the expense of some zombies. This will give your magic phase more flexibility (more skeletons if you need it, or 2 attempts at 7+ for VHD or something else). You might also want to consider a powerstone, to get that all important Van Hel's Danse on the Blood Knights into combat.

Blood Knights full command is expensive from a tactical point of view. At 1000 pt games, this unit will chew through anything without the aid of full command. Only reason to put it in there is because of models, IMO. The other thing, is that the Kastellan can occasionally be a hinderance. For large character monsters (greater demons, characters riding dragons, demons riding juggernauts, disc, nurglings) the kastellan will hurt more than help. Instead of 5 blood knights hitting with 15 S7 attacks, it will be only the kastellan with 4 S7 attacks. Something you might want to consider. By dropping musician and kastellan, I believe that's enough points to get you the Royal Standard of Strigos on the unit which, while overkill, will make this super unit all the more deadly.

Because you have the raise dead power, you might want to start out with a smaller unit of skeletons, and use magic to make them bigger. You could sacrifice 3 skeletons to get a Warbanner or other magic banner.
