Nice the Boneboys turned out so good! :skull: That's the big benefit on skellies, with a little fantasy you could use them in (almost) every state. Nice take on the repairing work, the chain idea is awesome! Good luck with the unit, it's been a while since I saw those oldhammers ;)

Oop Skeleton Horsemen wip

The skeleton Horsemen that came with the last lot of skeletons I picked up In much better shaepe than they started in.

IMG_7066.webp

The horses were in good shape but the riders not so much. After much cleaning and repositioning I managed to get most ready.

IMG_7067.webp

This skeleton rider is actually from the first Skeleton army box I bought back in 1990. I had planned to use him as a crewman for the skeleton chariot that came in the box but never did. He has been in various bits boxes for over twenty years until now. The horse and armor came from the last second chance skeleton lot and a left handed tomb king sword.

IMG_7068.webp

The standard is from the old skeleton command frame. The Flag is an old skeleton banner with the skull and bone bits trimmed off the edge and mounted on its side to a trimmed down banner pole. I like it better than the regular hnaging banner.

IMG_7069.webp

The skeleton lot was lacking enough long spear bits for what I wanted but once agin some twenty year old bits being put to good use.

IMG_7070.webp

Of the long spears in the lot a couple had seen much better days but I pinned them on with a bit of brass wire and will have then ready to go with a bit of greenstuff.

I have shields to add to them once I get all the left arms on.
I enjoyed getting these together but my painting queue is getting longer and longer.

Oop Screaming Skull Catapults for Oldhammer

Another new acquisition to add to my 10k of Undead for Oldhammer

IMG_7072.webp

I picked up two of the oop screaming skull catapults for US$20 shipped. I have been bidding on them for months and had just about stopped when this auction showed up and I won.

I have been collecting for a long time and have models to field almost every army except Chaos Dwarves and Tomb Kings. The funny part is with all the Undead models I have been picking up for my Oldhammer army I realized that I have collected a Tomb King army. Mummies for Lich priests and other characters, Carrion for Carrion, Skeleton archers, skeleton warriors, skeleton horsemen and a couple of screaming skull catapults. I did some numbers and can filed a 2500 point Tomb King Skeleton Horde army. I doubt it would be very competitive but I can put it on the table.

Two More old school skeleton archers

I put together two more old school skeleton archers from the latest second chance skeleton lot.

IMG_7074.webp

I ended up having to pin the arms on this one but I like the pose.

IMG_7075.webp

The only skeleton that didn't need to be stripped or cleaned from the latest lot. It came with a long spear in its off hand but I removed it and replaced it with the appropriate drawing arm.

These bring my skeleton archer unit up to 12 models. I am planning a second unit of archer for my 10k of Oldhammer Undead but I might just add a command section to these and rearrange some points to get by with one unit.

Man, no offense to everyone putting together newer skeleton models, but it's great seeing the old ones get some love. What a fantastic bunch of models. They'll look nice and random once they're all done. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, I have about ten more of the classic skeletons to reassemble. My plan is to give them hand weapons and shields. My plan is for four forty skeleton hordes once I am done. I have three of them assembled now and just need to get the fourth one built. I should have the last lot of skeletons I need in a couple days. Once they get assembled I can start painting.

Oop Carrion with Riders assembled

I finished cleaning up the lot of Oop Carrion with riders for my Oldhammer Undead army and set to pinning them all together.

IMG_7089.webp

I thought to put them on the old style hex shaped flying bases but didn't have enough so I used brass rod and square 40mm bases instead. I varied the heights so the unit actually ranks up rather well.

IMG_7090.webp

Two of the riders arrived with broken scythes but only one blade bit was included. I repinned the metal blade back on and then searched the bits box and came up with an old style skeleton scythe blade. I trimmed the blade down a bit and pinned it on. I think once I get it painted you will barely be able to tell the difference.

They were a unit in the 3rd edition Undead army before the army was split into the current VAmpire Count and Tomb Kings. Some of the stats and rules are different because of the change of editions but the model started with three attacks the first round of combat. The rider gained one attack on the second round of combat and then added an attacke each subsequent round. They were on toughness and strength with two wounds but cause fear in creatures under 10 feet tall and never routed.

I think they are cool and was able to get some reasonably price so I add a group to my Undead.

Wow, those models are sweet. Were those a unit in the Undead/VC codex? What were their stats? Really awesome models!

Wow, creature height used to be something they tracked? That blows my mind! *BOOM* Anyway nice acquisition... Can't wait to see them painted. :)

Wip Zombie Handgunners

Another Oldhammer Undead option was to upgrade skeleton crossbowmen to Skeletons armed with arquebus or the current equivalent of handguns. I wanted to add a unit for my Undead army. I first thought about converting the skeletons to have handguns but that seemed a bit too much work. Then I looked for some other manufacturers whom had skeletons with muskets but they were a bit price prohibitive. Sticking to the old "use what I have" I decided to turn some old Empire handgunners into Zombie handgunners.

IMG_7091.webp

Most of these are from odd lots I have picked up over the years. One had a broken foot and handgun, several were missing the handgun bit and a few were complete model and just needed a head awap.

IMG_7092.webp

I had to sculpt the foot back on and them drilled out the broken hand gun so I can add a barrel later on.

IMG_7094.webp

The key bit to the conversions is the blunderbuss bit from the mordheim human sprue.

IMG_7095.webp

The first zombie head swap next to an empire handgunner. I trimmed down the blunderbuss arm and tried to match it to the zombie and the hands were too far apart. Instead of cutiing off the hand and sculpting a new one on I went back to the bits box.

IMG_7096.webp

The bounty of the bits box. I found a repeating handgun from the new outrider box. After trimming off the arm bit it was almost a perfect fit. i just need to add some greenstuff to finish it off. I will play it as a regular arquebus but whats not to like about a Zombie with a gatling gun.

IMG_7097.webp

How the conversion was supposed to go. Swap old head for zombie head. Then trim off the back hand on the blunderbuss and pinn the front hand to the handgunners wrist.

Just eight more to go.

That sounds like a great idea, I can just mix them into the regular zombie units when I field them in a current edition game.

Thanks. I have an undead horde waiting to be primed. Real life has put a crimp on my hobby time but I see some light up ahead and hope to get some painted models up soon.

Love the finished Carrion. The square base is definitely better than the old flying base imo, look much cleaner.

Good job on the handgunner conversion too, the gatling gun fit surprisingly well, I might do one or two of those for my Empire champion with repeater handgun, thanks for the idea ;)

I have finished assembling my unit of Zombie Handgunner unit I plan to use as a proxy unit of skeleton with arquebuses for my Oldhammer Undead army.

IMG_7147.webp

The full unit

IMG_7148.webp

The unit champion now with a hat to make him blend in a bit more.

IMG_7149.webp

The oop monopose empire handgunner now with zombie heads and a blunderbuss from the mordheim arms.

IMG_7150.webp

Handgunner with broken handgun into a blunderbuss. No head swap for him, I will zombify him with the paint job.

IMG_7151.webp

A last few. Just a head swap but that should break up the unit once I get them primed and painted.

I finally managed to prime a bunch of skeletons, oop mummies, oop carrion and more back over the 4th of July holiday. It ended up being around 80+ models. I hope to get some painted models up soon. Thanks for looking.

There's an abundance of sweet old models in your thread, really nice to read through. Great job on cleaning them up too, it can be a pain!

I always find amazing how a simple head swap completely changes the way a miniature looks... Those skeleton handgunners will look really good when fully painted!

I think so too. I have a unit of skeleton with the beastman skull heads I hope to have painted soon.

I have my group of oop Skeleton Cavalry assembled and ready for a prmie.

IMG_7152.webp

The group shot.

IMG_7153.webp

To add a little variety to the unit I used some different shields. The first one is from the current skeleton box and the two chaos shields are chaos warrior shields.

IMG_7154.webp

I did a weapon swap on this standard bearer. I had originally gave him a tomb king blade but swapped it out with a chaos sword. Nothing like an undead chaos champion as my battle standard bearer.

IMG_7155.webp

These three match up to my original skeleton cavalry.

IMG_7156.webp

I didn't have enough of the old style armor bits for all the riders, so I added some old school shields and once painted they should blend into the unit well enough.
