Returning from the Dead

Hi everybody, I decided today to return to the Carpe Noctum forum. So, let's start with a little backstory:

I started playing vampire counts back in the 6th edition and I logged into this forum back then under the name Vladimir the Bloody (a terrible name, terrible terrible name). My two favorite fantasy armies were Vampire Counts and the Empire, although I never got around to making an army of the later. After some years playing with the vampire counts I needed a break from warhammer fantasy and launched myself into 40k playing with first Nids and then Space Marines. I has now been roughly 6 or 7 years of 40k and now the time has come for me to get a break from the Grim Dark Future, so here I am. If some of you are on the Bolter and Chainsword forum you may recognize my name from there.

Now of course, GW decided to destroy the warhammer fantasy universe that I so loved and turn it into Age of S***mar which, like a lot of people, I just bloody hate! So, with that I made a decition to simply say F*** it and return to the, in my opinion, best age of WHFB: the 6th edition. I will be using 6th edition army books, 6th edition rules and all will be good and happy times

So in a couple of months I will be starting a 500 points army of shambling zombies, ghouls and ghosts under the command of a Necromancer and eventually as I expand it a Necrarch vampire. And of course a Stirlander army, also 500 points. I don't really have anyone to play against where I live, except my brother and he doesn't really mind what rules we use, so all is good.

TLR I used to be here. Then I left. Now I'm back. Age of Sigmar can go shove itself into the most fiery pit of hell it can find and I will live happily in the 6th edition, foreeeeeveeer. So, ehm, HI!

Welcome back, Vlad the Bloody I can't agree with your attitude but at least I understand it and it's quite honest, which is rarely seen nowadays. Of course, it's moronic, to be honest, because it's a Dance Macabre with the corpse, but well, it's the feature of the rulers of the Undead! otherwise it's really comical, because all the events are logical and are the result of the development mistakes of the FB, and that GW went back to its roots is way better, than the situation with FB last couple of years. But nevertheless

Oh, well, I don't doubt some people like Age of Sigmar :tongue: To each his own. I just prefer to do my Dance Macabre as you so put it Although I will admit that the only change that Age of Sigmar brought that I like is the round bases. I will be giving my fantasy miniatures round bases and make some movement trays similar to the ones once used by the War of the Ring miniatures to make the units. And I kind of looking forward to what miniatures GW will be making for the Death armies for age of Sigmar that I will be able to steal for my armies Here's hoping for some plastic vampire kit, like the high elf prince/mage kit or the empire general kits.

BTW, since I will be working on VC and Empire, should I make separate threads for them or can I post them on the same thread?

it's the most strangest, most people I know hate round bases and, for one, I thought round would be used for not very disciplined armies like Chaos, ogres or orcs and square ones for elves or dwarves. That would be interesting, would it not?

Well I like the bases because I on occasion play small skirmish scenarios, for example a couple of imperials having to cross a bridge guarded by a river troll or two and for that the round bases are excellent.

And yeah, plastic blood knights would be amazing. I remember when they came out and I thought "Man, those are awesome, but there is no way in hell I'm paying 80€ for 5 minis". Some new zombies would be nice too, I love my shambling, rotting corpses, but the old ones, while they still have some character they do need an update. Same with the Orc Boyz.

Exactly, and even more today. They are indeed awesome, but resin and too expensive, yes. Apart from them and the plastic vampire kit we have everything to wish for

Welcome back to warhammer fantasy! Oh wait, the GW tyrants have decided that fantasy NEVER EXISTED . Also, you supposedly cannot play fantasy at official gw locationso_o. Plus they cut off all Tomb Kings models PERMANENTLY!:swear: So yes, very bitter @ GW for this, I've become an 8th ed. Recluse myself. Anywayyyyy....... :grave: Fantasy and happy wargaming.

Good to see I'm not the only one staying in the past And yes, man, the Tomb Kings getting scrapped annoyed me too. My first fantasy army was tomb kings and I had thought about making a new small 500 points force BUT then I went to the GW web page and saw they were being erradicated, wubty-frikking-hu!

And I'm fearing for Bretonnia now, another army I've always wanted to get my hands on. I'm just hoping GW can take a hint from it's fan base and not erradicate them too, but instead update them. Like they should have at least 5 years ago...

WHOOPS: Guess I spoke too soon, since it seems GW has put the entire bretonnia range (and a lot of other fantasy gems) on the 'Last Chance to Buy' list. Some of the models, sure, they were old and could use a new kit, but there are so many beautiful models they seem to be gone forever. A sad, sad day.

I just remembered how much I want to grab a Green Knight before they're gone! Welcome Grand Magnus, I'm a fan of 8th myself, been around since 4th but never really got to grips with the game or the hobby til relatively recently. I must say it's 500pts slow grow campaigning that's got my 40K on since the new year, so I definitely approve.

I'm lucky, Dragonet, that I have a few bretonnians (including two damsels AND the green knight) from waaaay back when I started in the hobby that I will enjoy repainting, although I might convert the green knight to a paladin and see if I can pick up another one on ebay just to have the original.

I've spent so long trying to achieve a 1000 - 1500 points list of, well, ANY army and never succeded. Which is why I decided to go small this time with 500 points and work my way up. Take for example the Vampire Counts list I've made, it only includes 42 minis which is a nice small number compared to the vast amount of minis in a high points list, so hopefully I'll be able to finish that once I get started.

I have a small force of Knights, archers and at least one Damsel myself, but I'm just not bothered about keeping them, especially now it turns out they were a nation of misled pawns; I have a small force of Knights Panther and Leopold's Pikemen to paint up as a mercenary company, hopefully I can get them to 1000-1500pts. That Green Knight is just screaming for an ethereal treatment; Nightshroud I guess?

For painting and building I'm finding the heady mix of achievable goals, an enjoyable and exciting project and motivation to complete models for the campaign an unbeatable combination.

I wish I had gotten my hands on some grail knight while they were available, so I guess I will have to roam through Ebay to see if I get lucky.

I don't know if the green knight would be a good etherial conversion, but I have seen a vampire conversion made with that model, it looks really cool in red heraldry.

I remember that one, it was in White Dwarf ages ago! There's another nice use of Lucrezzia Belladonna, riding side saddle of course.

Oh yeah, now that is an old school model the one of Lucrezzia Belladona. Louen Leoncour is also a really beautiful model, another one I should try to find on Ebay before they all disappear.

I really liked the idea of incorporating the Grail Reliquae within a Flagellants regiment; I've taken a sensible step back on the Empire at large though, so I guess that one will never come about...

Well, I think with a bit of conversion that would look cool. You would obviously have to convert the dead knight a bit so he looks more imperial, like a dead warrior priest maybe. But on the other hand, the Empire seems a bit more "civilized" than bretonnia so they might take offence from a dead knight/priest being carried around by a group of lunatics.

Yeah, that's true Farmer I just wish, since GW doesn't use their armybooks any more, that they would just release them for free on PDF. They don't sell them any more and don't profit from them so they might as well give them away for free.

Sadly they'd be competing against their own legacy, which for me begs the question why didn't they keep 8th going and release rules for the new units for those of us that aren't on board with Age Of Sigmar; you'd have crossover there and more book sales. Ho hum...

Well, perhabs GW should have updated the rules, trying to make them better than the original 8th edition release as well as updating some of those armies that had not been updated in 10 BLOODY YEARS! But oh well. I do believe, perhabs GW should have advanced the timeline to the End Times, BUT not have destroyed warhammer fantasy. Update the lore a bit (just a better update than End Times because the role was absolutely ridiculous) and the armies.

They could even still add the Sigmarines if they wanted. They could have said "Sigmar returns from (somewhere) bringing with him an army of (what ever the hell they are) to fight chaos. And that's it. No need to destroy the universe, just leave it like it is but with a new army and new lore.

OR even better. Advance the bloody timeline, update the armies, update the rules and not killing off the entire universe and enraging most of their fan base. But what do I know about bussiness anyways, I just think that bussines should pay attention to it's customers ideas as long as they are logical...

They should have, maybe, but they could have not. They had no choice. FB was doomed from the start because of its conception, that's why at that point if they wanted to advance things they had to destroy it.

Yes, I can see that. But in the end GW is a bussiness and they have to do what they deem necessary to earn money (after all that is the objective of a bussiness). So really, I can't blame them as much as I would like to.

Exactly. We could but it's pointless. Let us just hope it will be much better with the time.

Welcome back! Sucks that you are so deadset against AoS, it has really revived the games going on here in my area. The scenarios are great, it isn't much for a "set up 2 armies and hack away" but combine it with the scenarios and things go really well (imo).
