Yes I would agree with that. Whilst as far as I am concerned the Mantic models are comparable to GW for detail etc, the difference in the two styles would make me have a unit as one type, not mixed together.

If you definitely want GW skellies, get them from Weyland or another discounter, not direct. That will save a bit.

Yeah, I pre-ordered some of the new goodies coming out from Wayland Games.

Hey, i have some questions regarding the mantic skeletons and zombies.

are they the same scale? Im just wondering cause i really want to buy some because they are so cheap but my mate said that they are 25mm while gw ones are 28-32? I dont know if he is right. Would i be able to mix and match thr GW ones in the same unit?

If they are same scale im gunna buy my 120 zombies asap!

They are close enough to GW scale to be used in the same game, however it would look odd if you mix them with GW skellies in the same unit if that makes sense. It is also because the styles are quite different.

Looking at all the sprues linked in your thread, I can agree with both. Though, I'll probaly get the ghouls anyway, due to being cheaper then GW, but still looking half decent. I don't mind about "Varity" I just care about having the models honestly. :p

They're both on the same scale, but Warhammer use "heroic" scale, wich mean some proportion are exagerated in size to make more visually striking minis.

But the VC range is quite good and not too much over-the-top as previously, so it scale better with other "normal" minis.

For your concern on Mantics stuff, here's a pics I have showing them beside GW Skeletons:

From left to right: Current TK Skeletons, Wargames Factory Skeletons, Current VC Skeletons, Mantic Skeletons.

I like Mantics ghouls. And I think they can be mixed in a bit. All ghouls are not likely at the same stage of their transformation after all. I don't care for Mantic's skeletons. The skulls look like they have flesh or something. I don't like the look.

Could you please do the same thing with zombies? :)

I don't have Mantic Zombies sadly. But they should fit as well, scale-wise, as Skeletons does. But note that GW Zombie are 5th edition model and bigger than more modern scult (like the Corpse Cart zombies). To get an idea, compare the old GW Skeletons (first in my picture above) with the mantic model (last), and it should be the same scale difference with Zombies.

Just an update on cost.
Mantic Ghouls £30 for 50.
That same number cost £71.50 from GW.

As for scale, Mantic have quite small cavalry, but you will probably notice that many undead GW skeleton cavalry are larger than a Bretonnian Warhorse.. not sure how that works.
Mantic models are smaller, but if all your flesh rots off, you will be smaller. So scale imho, is not an issue.
Just wether or not you like the models!

i recently put together the 30 zombie box from mantic and i was really impressed. i was always a defender of the GW zombies but having seen the mnatic ones they make the GW zombies look odd and cartoony. as for scale they are smaller but tbh looking at them now it looks like the GW zombies are hte ones that are out of scale (that and me having the 3 different sizes of skellies as GW changed their minds about the build!)

my only complaint is that the bodies fit on to the legs very badly, its hard to make them stick without looking like they are a big disconnected.
however this is ofset because you can actually make 39 zombies out of the 30 box set if you use all of the gore pieces of the ones chopped in half.
im a convert. though i still dont think i like the scuplts on the ghouls or skellies from mantic...

Now I put them together.. well most of them :)
The bodies don't always fit without showing a small gap between the pants and abdomen. Frankly it isn't a big deal, green stuff could be used if anyone felt like it was.

I managed to make 40 Zombies from my 30, due mainly to the spines, thankfully those who hate the spines, will be happy to know that you can make 30 zombies, without using a single spine.

Ghouls have a whopping 2 poses, nothing a knife wont fix, but again, do cannon fodder need to look unique?

Revenants have detail, but it is shallow, by that I mean the shallow depth of the detail could make shading and highlighting a challenge.

I am more than happy with them, not even taking into account the price.
I also prefer the look of them, some of them look quite repulsive :) I am sure the GW ones will be easier to work with, pose and paint, but they do look far too comical. (imho)

Glad to hear that you're getting on with the mantic stuff as I just ordered the army deal over the weekend, mainly cos i loved the free necro model that came with it! This will be my first VC army as I only had a few skellies lying about and never really collected undead before. It was the mantic stuff that tipped me over the edge and started me off down this dark red path - I actually went on the site with the intention of starting a chaos dwarf force using abyssal dwarfs as the basis....
