RIP WHFB 2015

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
I agree with the price thing, with warhordes you can play as good as new or old player just with the starting set: 130$

Good,I don't care about gossip anyway, this whole ETC proved me right :)

I have only one question now. What are we supposed to do? Play 8th Ed like nothing happened? Are they gonna publish more warhammer stuff expecting people to buy it in the off chance that the 9ed will let us keep the new minies we bought?
Or what?

Play with what we have. Finish off our armies for completion's sake, if we want. Have grand games with friends to send off the game world we've known for so long with style. Play through the narrative campaign of archaon in an attempt to fight our way to a different end, so that we can always remember that in our warhammer world, things happened differently.

Or just take a break from warhammer, sell our armies to those who plan on playing the old game regardless, and play another game or wait to see what 9e looks like later this summer.

If we did what we're 'supposed' to we'd all own 10+ armies, each ready to grow at the drop of every new release. I play Warhammer because I enjoy it; I don't need any support from GW to continue to do so, they've already released everything I'll ever need from them. Wishing them no ill will, I'll return to observing them from a comfortable distance and get back to playing this excellent game rather than fretting over it.

Well what ever comes,I would think there will be undead in it. They are a fantasy staple. Untill we know more, it's all guess work, but, the way it's sounding is less 9th and more re-boot. GW has to curb their spending a bit plus try and keep the masses happy. With a reboot they get away from the whole 20+ book problem for fantasy. We know they couldn't keep up with the codex's, hell 40k is having the same problem. Go back to the beginning of WFB with 1 rule book, 1 army book and then plenty of figures. Yes we will loose many of the character types, but it will grow again if they can pull this off. We all agree, a starter box set or Eden just a new rule book, priced cheap would bring in more young blood and parents willing to cough up the money. 25-40 is better than 100.00 for a starter regardless of what many think. Follow up with a army book and figure boxs with rules to play that box of mini's and presto, they cut their loss and gain from all of us running out to get it. Hurts but makes sense. Anybody who says they can't change, dosnt own a buisness.

There might not even be a 9th edition.

Boy were you right! I was pretty much feeling the same based on all the 'leaked' rumors. Harry might have been disloyal to his/her company but I am glad they saved me from spending money foolishly. Doesn't mean they didn't do a disservice to their employer.

I didn't listen to the rumours :( Bought a WoC army that I definitely wouldn't have had warhammer involved its community and stockists as to what their plans were.

Don't feel too bad Dray. We all own armies now that really won't have any gaming value soon. Yes one could switch to Kings of War but does that game have Terrorgheist, Vargheist, Mortis Engines.... NO.

I reckon we should rename the thread 'RIP GW 2015', last time I checked my 8th Edition books worked just fine. As long as people keep playing, we'll have plenty more to do with our models!

There's a lot more people with positive out looks than I would have guessed. I honestly feel betrayed. We can say, well we have the old books, mini's, and all the rest, but holy crap how much time and money have I dumped into the this hobby... I want to give it a fair shake, but man this is one tough pill to swallow.

I completely agree Burnanation, they milked us dry then axed a 30 year old game without any warning to us the consumers, who bought it in good faith that it would be supported. But in all fairness, without them we wouldn't have the game. They won't see my money again and I have friends to play with, so there's not really much more to be done about it.

This is VERY interesting. It's like the KoW People are intentionally making new units so we can play with our old GW models. I can't believe that small company seriously intends to produce all these new units with their own range of models?

They ARE intentionally making new units (not just units but entire lists, see ratmen). Whilst they do want to have a complete repertoire themselves eventually, no way in hell will they get close to achieving that in the next 5-10 years.

Its pretty clear that they will be the tournament game of choice for fantasy from now on, so they are making it work for ex warhammer players who despise AoS (or those who love it but want a tournament game and not a gimmicky skirmish)
