That new wight king looks very nice!.. think I'd better order one with my army book.

As for the rules... better zombies and cheaper skellies are nice... but if they crumble just the same they aren't going to be of much use- Especially without some dependable way of buffing them.

But seriously....what's up with the price of fellbats... are they joking?... NO WAY!!!... it's like they WANT people to convert them from other stuff...... well.. fine have it your way then GW! :)

I'm making a bat themed army. Sort of like a combination of von carstein and strigoi. The vargheists and upgrade pack were a god send..the price of fell bats was an insult. It's probably impossible for me to get some of the old giant bats that had goblin riders back in the day, they looked great.

Not being able to spam ION isn't to big if a loss considering it can now add ten models each to more than one unit plus another for being successfully cast. I'm sure vamps will still dominate the magic phase in the same nonaggresive way we always have.

If IoN is signature you can have multiple casters take it, allowing you to cast it more than once. Good deal :D

Now that the advance orders are up on the GW site you can check the stats of the units. Wight Kings are staying the same. Vampires get an extra attack but unfortunately no wound increase.

Holy shit! That will epic. D6 + caster level + 1 for every time its cast. Well that should make our core units into the tar pit hordes they should be. On another note, do to an unfixed typo we know nothing about the varghulf. Perhaps it will have the hunger? Wouldn't that make perfect sense to to the nature of the beast?

Varghulfs are confirmed Vampiric units, it looks like only Vampire Characters have The Hunger.

Personally, I'm really excited about their Initiative increase (on the Blood Knights too!).

I don't really feel like they need it, they're more than mean enough as-is. I think the extra attack is just gravy. I never really understood why Vampire Lords appear fragile to players, to be honest. I also feel that being able to reassert control of the army from the General's death more than makes up for any perceived weakness of combat-oriented Lords.

I haven't read all the pages but seeing the profile on the GW site I noticed Vampire Lords are Level 1 Wizards base. Will that mean only Necromancer Lords will achieve level 4? Or perhaps Necromancer Lords will be the cheap but powerful dedicated casters?

Vampire Lords can take upgrades all the way to level 4. Starting at level 1 just means you don't have to pay for the higher levels if you don't want to.

It would make sense fluff wise for the varghulf to have the hunger, but it would also make sense for it to fly :D.
Another aspect that will make vampires tanky-er is the lore of vamp attribute. This will mean more healing for our vamps for each spell, perhaps even recovering 2 wounds from one casting of IoN, one W from IoN and one from attribute (depending on how the spell works with vamps). All in all, if an opponent wanted to take down a vamp, they'd have to do it before your next magic phase or he will likely heal up ;).
Personally, I've been hoping for master necros to get some unique traits to make them something other than the wal-mart version of vamp casters, but so far only lord of dead has popped up.

Just noticed that the Bat Swarms have their stats increased. And to keep to the rules of not-quoting-on-forum, I'll just say they attack 4 times faster, they attack more, and can take more punishment xD Just have a look on the site :P

lol glad at least one of my points has gotten through. xD

Finished reading WD last night.

Krell is indeed a hero.

None of the necro's in the army lists were level 4 (level 3 is the highest). Not saying that it isn't possible though. Heinrich was level 4, but he's a special character.

I'm fairly sure the vargulf gets to march as a vampire in the battle report, so the website must just miss it as an error.

Most interesting to me, is that if you read the short story that accompanies the scenario (supposedly an exert from the army book), Mannfred is not only confirmed as having survived Hell Fenn, but has been trained in magic by Nagash's accolytes in Lahmia and is now actively working to resurrect Nagash.

I wonder if they change the rules for our BSB so that they will actually be worth having, for any thing else than to get an extra magical banner.

Do I have to murder a gw employee to get fell bats to a reasonable price?
To be fair, there are three in the box as opposed to one. If i remember rightly, one was about £8 ($12-$16) so it is not that bad a price

I don't have the exact numbers in foreign currencies, but the new fell bat package costs 3x as much a blister of two used to, with only 1 more miniature in it. That is certainly a bad price, in my opinion.

My question would be, would the 12 inch bubble increase to 18 if he is mounted on a monsterous mount, like every other thing in 8th ed...... I know the wd said he had a 12inch bubble when i believe it was the ghoul king but i dont have the wd here infront of me.

Ah Mannfred such a cunning man who's loyal to no bloodline and may have the carstein ring. So I wonder what the bat swarms cloud of horror does for the eight edition. I also hope the fluff elaborates on the different types of strigoi vamps. How does one become a vargheist, varghulf or ghoul king? Assuming theyre all strigoi.

Hey all, I was just looking at the GW site and noticed that the banshees and wraiths are still in rare choices. I was really concerned that I might not be able to take a squad of these guys, but everything is sorted out for the book, and these guys are in heroes and rare sections. I think this will mean they stay a rare choice. Some people were saying it was going to be heroes only. What do you all think?

Also, is anybody see a great use for the nightshroud armor? I was wondering if my lord has it equipped on a zombie dragon, will everyone in base contact with the dragon suffer from the ASL and str reduction (sounds to good)? If so I could send my Lord crashing into all sorts of shock troops. Even if it doesn't work atop the dragon, it would still be incredibly useful in cc against GW hordes and ASF units.

The seventh edition implies Varghulfs can't fly cause they're too heavy, it says they move in large leaps. Also I could picture them being the exception to hunger being character exclusive as they're a solo monster and not a unit or anything, although I'd expect a point increase or maybe an upgrade to give them hunger? Not starting a false rumor just wishing for something that won't happen.

newset info from Warseer:

Invo of Nehek:
