Quite simply, how would this work? The cold blooded rule means they roll 3 dice discarding the highest whereas, the screaming banner rolls an extra die and discard the lowest. Does this mean lizards roll 4 dice and discard the highest and lowest results?

Just seems so unnecessarily complicated, lol. It's almost like GW don't even try to make rules that work together.

I'm curious as to how play testing is done. Do they just line up a VC army against an empire army without cannons and go 'that's balanced'?

Edit: thanks for the response.

No they cancel out so only 2 dice.

Its just like if you have the ability that says reroll successful fear tests but you have the enemy army battle standard within range the abilities cancel out so no rerolls. There are other similar abilities and situations that have been FAQ'd.

Aedin, those abilities created a redundant roll (re-rolling both successful and unsuccessful rolls, making the results of the first irrelevant.) and is explicitly stated in their rules that they cancel out.

There is no conflict between the effects of cold blood and the screaming banner, both ask you to add more dice and remove different dice. The combination also creates a result different to simply rolling two dice (a lower deviation from 7). Until there is something saying otherwise, there is little in this rules combination and not much RAI precedent for them to cancel.

Yeah that would work too. I think either way would be a good option. It would really come down to what your opponent and you wanted to do.

This entry is from the lizzy FAQ added back in version 1.4 of the old book, coldblooded is as far as I know worded exactly the same so the following should still be right:

Q: When a unit with the Cold Blooded special rule is required to add or subtract additional dice for a Leadership test, how does it work? (p41)
A: Take the test on however many dice it would normally be taken plus the extra dice from the Cold Blooded special rule and remove the highest. For example if a normal unit would take the test on 3D6 and add them together a Cold Blooded unit would roll 4D6, take away the highest and then add the remaining 3 dice together.

Well if that rule is true then the lowest would be taken away as well for the screaming banners rule.

Totally true! As it is now the most "correct "way of doing it is to roll 4 dice take away highest and lowest.. Math wise it should result in the same average when rolling 2 dice, but the screaming banner does make it harder to roll insane courage as you would need 3 ones out of four to make it happen when the screaming banner is in effect.. Please correct me if this is wrong :)

Ok, this makes sense and if the wording hasn't changed then the reasoning should still apply.

Thank's Bullhax

I have brute-force plotted (4-2)D6 out on a spreadsheet, as my statistics-fu is weak.

On 2D6, you are slightly more likely to get the extreme values. On (4-2)D6, you are more likely to get values close to 7.

Cold Blooded or Screaming Banner on their own essentially shift the roll by 2.
