The topic name says it all,

How does the sword works in a challenge?
For example unit with charachter charges my ghouls with ghoulking with the sword.
He challenges, I accept with my lord. next shooting phase, will my ghoulking target the charachter or the complete unit?

Hope my question is clear enough...

The hits are distributed as shooting therefore, they hit the unit. The same thing happens with a character riding a chariot, the impact hits go on the unit.

But a breath weapon goes int oa character does it not

Q: If a model with a Breath Weapon, Stomp or Thunderstomp is in
a challenge, can these attacks hit models not in the challenge?(p102)
A: No

it really is quite simple to see if there is a relevant FAQ question. While it specifies that a breath weapon, stop or thunderstomp all hit only the character in the challenge, they are all events that occur in the combat phase, as the sword deals damage outside of the combat phase and is distributed as shooting, the unit takes the damage.

The issue would only come up if the challenge lasted more than one round of combat.

Magic
Shooting
CC

In the CC phase, challenges are issued and accepted. Until then, the holder of the blade of screamy badness is not tied up in a challenge, so hits go into the unit.

If the challenge goes into a second round of combat, then the sword's scream can only be directed at the model in the challenge.

Why do you say that it is directly on the character Fodderboy?

While the results of a challenge affect the result of the combat resolution between two or more units as a whole, the challenge itself is otherwise completely separate from the combat (only the characters or champions who have issued/accepted may participate).

Because the character with the sword of screaminess is removed from combat with the enemy unit and is in a dedicated combat (the challenge), the character may not attack the enemy unit as a whole.

As I said in my initial post, this is only an issue if the model with the sword is in challenges for more than a single round, because of the turn order.

I wouldn't say that they are removed from combat, they are just unable to be attacked by others due to honor or what have you. I would still resolve the sword as a shooting attack, which affects the whole unit
