Hi all, this is my first post.

I really like the idea of an undead army and really fancy doing a VC one, just love the whole zombie thing hehe.

Anyway, should I covert up and theme a army now or wait for the new release, which could be over 6 months away ?

Just could use some advice really, also any ideas on cool themes would be good.

thanks all!!

Well i would say get started now as things like skeletons, zombies, necromancers and vampires will be staying in the new army. This will give you time to collect/build/paint these parts and learn how to use the army as its very different to others in the old world

Lord Firmshaft basically explained my opinion on either taking a new army or not. You can experiment on colours too.

For themes, how about:

- Halloween style.
- Zombie Pirates!
- Rising from the grave, eg Skeletons and Zombies raised to the ground.
- An Empire themed army.

We are in the same boat. :)

I was wondering the same a few weeks ago and picked up a box of zombies and registered at this website to get started. I'm really enjoying this army so far, in every aspect.

I will not be going over board though, buying lot's of models from the current range, as so much will be replaced in half a year or so, when the Vampire Counts get re-released. If you start a small army now, I would advise you to do this as well. I was lucky to pick up a few vampire counts blisters from a bargain bin with everything at 50% of the original price, and I bought goblin wolf riders to use the wolves as dire wolves as this is a much cheaper alternative. I'm also attempting to convert the goblins from the goblin wolf rider box into ghouls, using the parts provided, parts from my bits box and some green stuff.

I will wait untill the new and undoubtedly much better models get released untill I shell out the big cash. But by all means, if you like the current range, want to start a big army right away and don't hold your cash as tight as me, go for it! ^_^

That's my two cents anyways.

Thanks for the advice.

I think I will try and find some cheap models like you say to try a few things with, like painting and modeling.

Just wish it was sooner for the release hehe, I also dont want to buy too much just in case loads changes with the army book.

Voltaire makes a really good/interesting point.
I've been told at GW that they aren't releasing them for a while (please don't shoot me if this isn't true) so if you want to collect them, then I would just start collecting them regardless. =]

Yes that is a very good point....

The skellies and zombies look fine anyway, and Will buy the goblin wolf riders box.

But what about the other models, the black Knights are metal so would cost alot and if they got new models would be a shame to have bought them. So with that in mind what other plastic models can I buy for my other troops, to keep the cost down ?

thanks

If you really want Black Knights, you could buy Empire knights and do some head swaps with your spare zombie or skeleton heads. :)

Another way to get cheap black knights are the plastic tk horsemen

If you look at my vampire army ( https://www.vampirecounts.net//showthread.php?tid=20) most of that is plastic so it can be done

I'm in a similar boat as I've read some of the rumours, see the wip pictures and I'm now interested in a VC army. I haven't used one for a while but I'm thinking about picking them up again, mainly as I know I can paint up an army quite quickly so I have something to play when the new book comes out.

As for Black Knights, you might want to try Bretonnian Knights as something different.

I had exactly this decision to make in late 5th edition. The edition was due to change and VC were coming out fairly early. I bought 'core' units; skeletons, zombies, empire halberdiers, wolves, and a couple of characters and went from there. I learned a lot of useful things and then I made some changes to reflect the new list. As I learned more and developed my own style and theme, I did not use all the models I bought regularly, but I still play with them occasionally. The reason being that I try to find fixed 'tournament-style' army and stick with it against all-comers. That means I don't have a lot of room for 'chrome', so my banshees and wraiths don't see the dark of night very often.

It will take time to buy, build, convert, and paint you new horde. Start now!.

I'd say wait, as Vampire Counts will go through (suffer?) a huge remake, and we'll get loads of new and shiny models. The current model range is the worst in Warhammer, hands down.

Hey,
i'm going to start now and just buy the basic models such as zombies and skeletons, and maybe the odd Vampire.
cheers
